This is the new Paladin follower - Maximillian of Northshire.
Before you able to start this questline, you have to earn Champions of Legionfall and recruit Nerus Moonfang.
You also have to complete Maximillian's quest chain in Un'goro crater.

As a bodyguard he has 5.3M hp after buffing himself with vanilla blessing of kings (10% increase to all stats, occassionally cast on you as well), has charge as paladin, followed by taunt and wings. Really handy if you are ret :D

Despite you saving his horse in the quests to acquire him, oddly enough, Max doesn't mount up with you and simply runs really, really fast, I dropped a bug for it. In combat, he has a Charge, a single-target Taunt that lasts 5 seconds, and mini Crusade-like Avenging Wrath that lasts about 5 seconds (50% damage and 33% attack speed). He also buffs you, himself, and any of your allies with the classic Blessing of Kings (10% primary stats for 10min)--truly a paladin from a long-gone era. Blessing of Kings persists when he is dismissed, but goes away upon entering a dungeon.

When switched to passive, he'll occasionally appear and use Greater Avenger's Shield, which has a cast time, doesn't bounce, and hits for around 300k. The lack of bounce is very likely a bug since the tooltip for him being passive says he "has a chance to appear, dealing great damage to all nearby enemies."

Boros is still arguably better for having that gnarly AoE debuff that increases damage taken, but Maximillian (like Nerus) can be toggled active or passive. Nice for not getting stuck in combat because your follower's got a mind of its own.

Beside the Un'Goro Crater quest chain, and the recruitment of Nerus Moonfang, is there any other requirement?
I recruited Nerus Moonfang, then i went back to do the Un'Goro quests, but i'm not receiving any mail... something didn't trigger.
Maybe there's a cooldown to wait for? It's 24 hours already.

After talking to doloria and getting the "a fool's errand" quest, do yourself a favor and follow maximillian out of the legerdemain lounge. It's worth it.

I love this character and its reference to "El Quijote". I had a great time with him in Un'Goro and it is awesome to have him as Champion on my main character, who is a paladin.
The questchain is full of humor situations and I had a great time doing it.

I'm doing a dps rankings for paladin champions. I used them against Kosumoth for about 1 minute, then ran away from it. When the numbers stablized, I recorded the final dps number.

All my champions are at level 110, ilevel 900.

Not all of them have been tested yet. I'll add to the list as and when I activate the other champions as Combat Ally.

He doesn't use a Big Love Rocket as his flying mount anymore. Lame.

As an assigned follower he has two modes #1 "Fall Back" (occasionally spawns during combat and deals some underwhelming amount of damage)
and #2 "To My Side" (always at your side dealing damage often and taunting target)

Out of these two modes i've found "To My Side" (aka bodyguard mode) to be alot more useful and seems to deal more damage.

If you are not receiving the letter when you enter your Class Hall, try making Nerus Moonfang your combat ally. I was not receiving the letter after weeks of completing the Un"goro quest and having done the 7.2 quests for Nerus. Decided one day to switch out Arathor for Nerus and boom, Letter in mailbox the next time i entered Class hall.

Since both him and Nerus Moonfang came with Broken Shores campaign, comparison is apt. Maximillian is much more tankish than Nerus. I do world quests mostly in retribution spec, so having a tank champion is more helpful. Nerus cannot hold, while I have to give up on trying to tank with Maximilian. He just keep on taunting.

His abilities are :
Player : Ilvl 906

26k dps (without wrath (can't do without kings's buff))

Melee : 14k
Charge : Charge, 40k on impact, 30yd range
Taunt : Taunt, 6s cooldown, 30yd range
Crusader Strike : 75k, 6s cooldown
Avenging Wrath : 5s duration, Self buff, internal cooldown unknown
Blessing of Kings : 10min duration, Group Buff, 10% all stats

Setback Ability:
Greater Avenger's Shield : about 300k damage per proc on each unit hit

If you want to know if you've completed Maxymillian's Un'Goro crater quests (must be completed by at least one character per account in order to get this follower), check your achievements: Quests > Kalimdor > Un'Goro Crater quests > The Ballad of Maxymillian.

Just want to give me experience, as I just did this today. While I had completed his quest-line (in Un'Goro) on another character, I did in fact have to go complete it on my paladin. After which, I went to my class-hall and I got mail to start the quest line to begin acquiring him as a follower. Before I started the Un'Goro quest though I did fly out and talk to him to see if that did anything. At that moment in time it did not do anything, but I thought I'd mention it.

I had already finished the champions of legionfall achievement, i went to ungaro crater and did the 5 or so quests for him, i immediately got the letter when i entered the paladin class hall, no need to wait for weekly reset.
