Since mutis lost access to prep, sub does best one on one IMO.
But I think mutilate works better in the chaotic environment of a BG. You need to find the enemy healers and put maximum pressure on them, and muti can put out a lot of damage
fast
. Prep doesn't buy you much in a five-minute zergfest around a flag or a ressource node.
I've never tried PvPing as combat.

Don't know how combat is against other classes, but my muti rogue tears combat apart.

While I haven't BG'ed with my PvP Combat build, I find that Combat has the staying power. Yes, your attacks are not as bursty as Sub or Muti, but you've got a slow basicly inbuild to your attacks with Blade Twisting as well as mentioned before the free snare removal and silence with Sprint and Kick when you spec into it.
Also, Killing Spree is good for burst, and if you do it right. A Revealing Strike + Kidney Shot will leave your target stunned for a long time.

Does revealing strike affect kidney shot? While leveling as combat I didn't notice an increase in duration.
