How to enchant - F2P
Return to board index
Post by
http
My players profile (online here) says I have 9 items (gear) not enchanted. Ok, I now know what enchanting is. But as F2P I cannot trade, so I cannot get items enchanted I assume.
But assuming I would have a full account, how do I find out what powder or whatever is needed to get the item enchanted and what would improve exactly?
And as a F2P, if I would unlearn current main profession and learn enchanting instead (capped at 100), would that help for enchanting my current gear? How do I find that out myself?

You can find all enchant here :
http://www.wowhead.com/skill=333#recipes
You can get enchanting mats on every green/blue/purple item by disenchanting them.
About which enchant you "need" well, it's more complicated, it really depand of your class and spec. And the stats you need. You can know more about that by reading guide and asking people.
I wouldn't suggest enchanting for low level to be honest. It doesn't change that much.
At high level it give a good boost, but it really doesn't worth it for low level. The only enchant that really deserve to be taken into account are recipe that is dropped from dungeons or mobs. And it's mostly only for Twinks (people that stop leveling at a certain level for pvp purpose and try to get the best gears/enchant for that level only).
So if I were you, I wouldn't bother with enchanting except if you plan on having a full account and get max level.

I don't plan to pay for a real account and if then not with this character, so yes, I'm limited to level 20. And I'd like to get the best gear (=twink).
Thanks for the link. I'll look through that.

Thanks for your additional reply. No, trading is not possible at all. I cannot even receive gifts.

First off you seem to making the absolute most of your F2P experience, bravo.
If you wish to have your gear enchanted and you don't wish to unlearn your professions, create a second character. With your first character farm cloth. Send all the cloth to your second. Have this toon learn enchanting and tailoring. Use the cloth to create tailored items to disenchant to create a stock of materials. Once you have sufficient enchanting materials level that profession up.
Once you have learned the enchants you want your main character to have, purchase some enchanting vellum, place the enchants on the vellum, and mail those to your main character. To enchant your gear, right click the appropriate piece of vellum and with your character tab open, click on the gear you want the enchant to go on.

Hi Eccentrica
Thanks for your ideas. Unfortunately F2P cannot use mail. That breaks this idea. But unlearning the main profession would probably work. I just don't know yet if it's worth the effort.

I don't think it worth the effort.
Most "Good twink enchant" are recipe that mostly drop from raid, dungeons, etc.
I'm not sure you can acces them at your level.
The particularity of those enchant is that they don't have a "minimum level required". They are often used on heirloom, etc.
So in the end, I think you might be better with another profession.

What two primary professions do you currently have?

Currently I have mining and skinning as primary professions, both already limited to the maximum (100 for F2P). Those professions don't help me in anything, not even to get fast money. I chose them years ago when I read that these were recommended for hunters. At that time I didn't know that I will play a F2P character with it years later (F2P didn't even exist then).
If I can increase my gear even just a tiny bit, I think it's worth the effort. But I'm not sure yet what I will get with enchanting level 100, player level 20 and enchanting my current gear.
What would you recommend to unlearn, mining or skinning?

Since you are not planning to purchase the game and seem quite content to play indefinitely as is, what I would suggest is this: Do the tour of professions. Research all of the crafting professions to see if there are items which you will be able to craft that offer improvements to your character. For example if you play a hunter, engineering can offer you a gun, a scope, a pet, seaforium charges for opening locked boxes and a head piece. Leatherworking would provide you with some gear. Jewelcrafting would provide you with some rings and a necklace, and so on.
Once you have a laundry list of what you would like to craft, bank the materials necessary to both level the crafting profession and to make the items you desire. If storage is a problem, then have one crafting profession and one gathering profession at a time, make what you want, and then move on to the next crafting profession. Mining provides ore, bars and gems for jewelcrafting, engineering and blacksmithing. Skinning feeds leatherworking. Herbalism feeds Alchemy and Inscription. Any profession that creates green gear feeds enchanting, and you need only find cloth to feed Tailoring.
Of your two current professions, mining is the easiest to relevel if you drop it to learn something new. But really, you can't sell the leather and ore you gather on the AH, and you have no matching crafting profession so having those two professions together is kind of pointless.
You've all the time in the world, and your professions will be capped at 100 skill points, so dropping professions and learning new ones isn't really a terrible thing to do.
As regards enchanting, within those 100 skill points you will have a choice of enchants for bracers, cloak, chest, and weapon. Those who say the added bonus doesn't matter are partially correct. For those who are not F2P enchanting doesn't make sense because they will continue progessing in levels and will quickly replace their gear. You, however, are frozen at level 20, and have limited opportunity to replace your gear. Enchant away.
Furthermore, since you are capped at 10g, pimping yourself out via learning any applicable professions provides you with a gold sink. And let's be pratical about this, being frozen at level 20 you have limited scope for exploration and questing, you can't indulge in archaeology, and fishing soons wears thin. To be blunt, you will soon run out of things to do. If you want to improve your character through professions you can and should.

After having written all of that, I only just looked at your character profile (doh).
Leatherworking, Jewelcrafting and Engineering will not provide you with any upgrades to what you currently have (within 100 skill points). The only thing Engineering would give you is a companion pet, Mechanical Squirrel, and if you are lucky enough to get the recipe to drop somewhere, Small Seaforium Charge.
Inscription would provide glyphs which you couldn't use, and some scrolls which you could. You have levelled past anything useful that Alchemy or Jewelcrafting could provide you with, and Tailoring could only offer 8 slot bags.
So, that leaves Enchanting. TL;DR? Drop mining, farm dungeons for Uncommon items to disenchant for mats, and enchant your gear to the best of your ability.

Hi Eccentrica. Thanks for your two long replies. I think I have to comment on them. First, I think all are good points, but most is common sense.
What do you mean by "doh"? Good or bad? I think my current equipment is not bad, as I can even kill some crocodiles in STV without problems. They appear as "skull" (no level), because I assume their level is more than 30 and I can still kill them easily. But of course there is always better gear, either a rare drop or whatever. Currently I'm trying to get the Arena Grand Master trinket. I got one of twelve of these required things already.
Yes, I think Enchanting would be good to learn myself then, even if I can probably not do much with it. But at least it will be fun.
The only think I am concerned about is that I remember that when I did chose my initial professions, it said that I can always unlearn it, but that comes with a price: Relearning another one will get more expensive every time I do so (or something like that). Do you (or anybody else reading this) know more about these details? Or has this been removed with a newer patch?
And yes, with Mining and Skinning I do not win anything. I can only sell the mining stuff for one copper or so. So that doesn't help me right now. And regarding self-crafted gear: I don't think there is anything better than I already have that could be created by any profession. Maybe except the enchanting, which just improves existing gear a tiny bit. Regarding bags: I already have 16 slot bags (almost) everywhere (currently except the three bank slots; 12 slot bags there).
One other thing that is important regarding unlearning professions: With Skinning leveled to 100, I received a "Master of Anatomy Rank 1". With this, I get 3 critical strike increase. And with Mining I get "Toughness Rank 1", which increases Stamina by 3. What would I get with Enchanting profession leveled? Nothing useful for a Hunter?

I meant 'doh, I should have looked at your profile first as your gear is quite good therefore my suggestions as to professions were mostly moot'
What I was driving at in my second reply was that your character is so far advanced in terms of gear and equipment that most of the professions can offer you no real benefit as far as crafted gear. What you have is superior to anything you would be able to make, with the possible exception of a couple of alchemy potions and then Enchanting.
Yes, skilling up in new professions would require additional expenditures, in both training costs and some purchased components. Unlearning a profession costs nothing, learning one and then learning new recipes from a trainer does cost. However, the price of a skill or recipe does not increase. That is to say, if you unlearn mining, and later decide to learn it again, the training price is no greater than when you learnt it the first time.
You may be confusing this with the rising price of learning talents from your class trainer. If you selected Beast Mastery once you hit level 10, and then decided you wanted to be Survival, and subsequently decided to give Marksman a go, the cost of unlearning your talents would increase every time you visited your class trainer. It does not work this way with professions.
Now, the reason that most people (myself included) would dismiss carrying mining and skinning, and specifically at the same time is that we simply forget the practical bonuses they give while levelling. Players of high level characters don't often choose either of those professions because invariably crafting professions offer us greater bonuses to stats required of end game play. For example lots of people are Blacksmiths not to craft items, and not for any enjoyment of it, but only for the fact that Blacksmiths can create gem sockets exclusively for their own bracers and gloves. Two extra gem slots is a big huge deal.
If you want to enchant your gear do so. While you are at it, enchant a few parchments to stick in the bank to enchant any upgrades to your current gear that you may find. Then once you think you have your bases covered, go back and relearn whatever skill you chose to drop. You are quite right in that the bonuses from mining and skinning are helpful to you.
Now, as other may point out, this is a database site. The page for
Enchanting
details all of the spells and the skill level required to learn them. As a hunter, you are primarily going to be interested in increases to your Agility, although a bit of extra Stamina and/or Health wouldn't hurt either.
