yup, always hate when that happens, going thru the usual Tues. Maintenance withdrawals, now the dreaded extend-o-time frame....lol.
Like to always go in and clear out some mail befor the kiddies get off the bus, but alas guess (or hope) this extended time add-on is for prepping for 5.1 patch!

well i assume the extended maintance is mainly cause of terrance coming out, just like it was during HoF.
so i assume (agian) that we wont see many extended maintances for a while till atleast 5.1

I'm betting that at 3 PM, we're all going to get another message saying that they expect to have everything up and running by 5:00.

Well you know they could just tools down on time and do a half assed job, and then you'd probably whine about that too.
You are slightly put out at most once a week whilst they maintain a high level of service.
If a few hours not playing the game has become so much of an issue then it is time to seek addiction counselling.
:/ wow. Chillax, blizzard doesnt need someone to defend them. I never understand why people get ugly so fast over a game.
I'm personally not happy about this extended maintenance myself. I always get annoyed when they just dont come out from the get go and say its going to be offline all day. Its a recipe for disaster and annoyed nerds. If they were honest from the start, both with their customers and themselves, everyone would be happy.
Some people obviously really enjoy playing the game. I dont think it's cool they get strung along like that by someone who is stalling for time. And yes, if you have to scrape pennies together each month just to afford your subscription, every single minute counts. This is time they already paid for. Don't down talk someone for something they pay to enjoy. Because someone is frustrated that they have been waiting literally over 5 hours for, doesn't mean they need therapy. It means someone needs to fix it.
And yes, I'm saying this as someone who graduated with a 4.0, BS in Psychology. I get annoyed when people throw "therapy" and "addiction" around so lightly.

You've clearly never done any computer work, have you?
The timeline they give is an estimate for how long it's going to be. That's it. Sometimes odd things happen that throws off the estimate. There's nothing that they can do about it and they're not "stalling" as you put it. It's just some part of the process ran longer than expected.
&*!@#ing at them over a delay is the same as demanding that they schedule unexpected downtime.

I lol at people that want a refund for maintenance hours these days.
I could almost buy a whole gumball with that refund of $0.21!

No I haven't done any computer work. But its still not necessary to get angry at people for getting angry. >> seems kinda pointless to me.
And Yes I would say its stalling. Because every time they have an extended maintenance, its extended over and over again. If you have observed in the past that, hey, every time we give the first estimate its wrong, you would think that by now they would understand it wont take just a few hours. It makes no sense that they dont give themselves any leeway and instead put out estimates for themselves that they cant reach and that just rile people up.

Not sure you thinking is correct here. I do not think it makes any difference saying you scrape together the monthly dues or have no issues paying the monthly dues. When you say "every minute counts" broadcasts (to me that is)that you play WOW too much. Losing 8 hours of play time, for whatever reason, is not life changing in anyway, in comparison of living in real life.
Just an observation.

I had this broken down on a thread, but it's disappeared. So I'll break it down here for Never waking up early on a tuesday ever again untill blizz gets its !@#$ together.
You pay $179.88 a year for your sub. $14.99 a month. Roughly, that breaks down to about $.49 a day, which then breaks down to $.02 an hour. So, WoW being down for 5 hours is $.10. What can you buy for $.10 nowadays? I don't even think you can get 10 Frootie Tooties for a dollar anymore.

Every minute counts as in, tomorrow you might not be able to play. I have a friend who lives in Canada, and he often goes months without playing because he can't afford wow and food at the same time. He always says goodbye to us, and we don't know when the poor fellow will get back. When he gets back, hes always so far behind. He has a problem catching up in terms of gear and definitely, now that rep is so hard to get, he will probably have a hard time with rep grinds. We do what we can for him, but usually he never gets to raid or do anything awesome.
This is not taking into account that he works long hours and he can't get on for long even when he can afford his wow time.
*edit* And yes time matters more now than it did before. I don't know if you've noticed, but the rep grinds are so painful. I personally would prefer to drag through my dailies early in the morning so that I can do real life things, as you have mentioned. You know, like make dinner and spend my evening with my husband. And the sad thing is, if you miss one day's worth of dailies, it sets you back another day for your goals. I've been grinding poor mantids every day to try and make up the time I didn't do my Klaxii dailies, but I won't get my scorpid mount for another 15 days. I know it doesnt matter to someone with enough time to play whenever they want, but in 15 days I hopefully wont have ANY time for the mountain of dailies. Hopefully by then I'll be making RL gold ;) $$$
And yes, I play wow a lot, but there's nothing medically wrong with being annoyed with something. Its called being human. I don't get why people who have no qualifications think they can interpret and diagnose mental illness because of a few lines posted on a game forum.

Who's getting angry? I'm simply calling you out on your at best misinformed opinion. Besides, getting angry at them while they're trying to get the work done is just as, if not more pointless.
And yes when they have an extended maintenance it does tend to be up in the air for when they complete because when those are done it usually involves changes who's results are not really predicable. You say that they should give leeway in these situations when the only real leeway they could possibly give that would be accurate is "before the end of the universe" which while amusing is not exactly going to stop the petulant whining.
As I said before, you're essentially saying they should also plan for unexpected downtime. Meanwhile the real world doesn't work that way.

I'm going to give you a real world example. Don't laugh at this. (ok, its pretty funny) But its true.
I have an older brother who I'll call Bob. Bob can't drive, has no license, and no means to get to work besides family members. He has to be at work at 10 AM every morning. However, his rides actually always arrive at 9:50. Why?
To the casual observer, it would be unkind to arrive so late to pick up Bob,. You might think they are being lazy, or uncaring. Like blizzard, Bob gives his rides a standard time each work day. (they have repeatedly used 11 pst for several maintenance days).
Unfortunately, if you were to arrive at 9:15, like anyone who is punctual would, you would find yourself with a headache. Bob takes FOREVER. He does all kinds of wonky things (just like computer work, hes unpredictable). One morning he will be trying to find his cat. Another morning, the dog will have chewed up his leather shoes. Or even one time, he spilled hot coffee on himself. You never know what Bob is up to.
The safest way to approach Bob and the ride is just to show up later in the first place. Many of Bob's rides have quit showing up because of how long he stalls after telling them he will be ready at 9:15. So in order to reduce frustration, those who still love him enough to stand him, will show up very late, knowing he will never be ready on time. Blizzard, like-wise, could easily just post a message,
"We are unable to give an estimate at this time. However we are currently working to resolve the issue"
without posting repeated estimates when they are clearly not capable of accomplishing all that they want within the estimated time lines.

I agree. There is no reason with being annoyed. All forums bring the wonderful un-human sides out of many people. I think you most of all would know that. Kind of like watching a debate - the winner always seems to be the one who flustered the other.
People can alleviate all of this by simply not playing on Tuesday maintenance days. Computer code is very tricky stuff. It looks like everything is working then come implement day blows up and you are now scrambling trying to figure out what the heck happened. I think the statement "Maintenance has been extended" speaks for itself.
And I personally do not want to be remembered if I die tomorrow that "He played WOW to the end". My point still remains - whether you scrape money together or have the money to play WOW should never factor into the amount of time you play. It should always be you enjoy to play the game not the amount of time you played the game. I play 2 hours a day and still love the game since Vanilla. However whent he family wants to watch a movie - the game is always put on hold.
