Am I correct in believing that SMF is ahead of TG?

Last time I checked Noxxic, SMF was ahead of TG slighty by like 5k. Honestly, I would say play whatever you want. I also think its more fun swinging giant swords and maces around than little ones, so I play TG. Not that I'm any good at it, but whatever. So unless you're raiding in a hardcore, end game guild, I don't think anyone is going to really care if you can pump out an extra 5k or not.

Noxxic's numbers are based on Simcraft, not actual screenshots from raids and whatnot, but yes, SMF is ahead of TG, followed by Arms. From Noxxic, it's basically...
SMF : 103,949 DPS
TG : 98,373 DPS
Arms : 93,410 DPS
So yes, Rystrave was correct. Each spec after SMF is following by about 5K, but honestly, as Rystrave also said, play what you like. I was Arms back in DS and I was rocking the charts when compared to other people rocking SMF or even TG. This one warrior had Savior and the gear to prove it compared to me only completing everything up to Ultraxion and having most of it heroic, yet I pulled quite a bit more DPS than him. I believe it was mostly based on play style and experience, but who knows. If you play and really enjoy SMF, then all the better, but don't let it stop you from having fun. If your guild requires you to go another spec for a fight (for me, it was TG for early Spine progression), suck it up and do it. You might actually enjoy it. Best of luck to ya. :3

SMF pulls ahead in the Execute phase. TG is slightly better from 100-20% and for AoE.
@Rystrave- 5k more DPS can make a
huge
difference on any boss fight.
@WTBaggorodomoggo- This is not Cata. SMF was king in T11, TG was best in T12, and EVERYONE went Arms in DS. It also depended on the fight which spec was better in Cata. Like you said, TG was amazing for H Spine but stunk on every other fight in DS. We all ran to ORG(or SW for you Alliance dogs) to respec and reforge after Lootship.. then back again for H Madness where Arms was awesome.
In general, play what style you want. It's your game. Use the weapons you have avalible to you. TG and SMF are close and have their strengths. You will see a 500k Execute with TG for sure BUT you will see way more 500k+ crits as SMF.

: Of course it's not Cata any more, sadly enough. I missed about 9 months of that in the beginning, hence my lack of knowledge in the earlier tiers. I only missed like 2 months of Pandaria, but I'm almost to level 90 now. /yay
Really? Everyone went Arms? Odd. I was the only legit Arms raider in my guild. I suppose it's because I'm on some backwater mudball of a server (Fizzcrank) and we didn't have all that many warriors in my guild. Oh well.

Yep. TG was dead in the water after Fire Lands... A few rare exceptions but highly uncommon

Also remember that the simcraft those numbers refer to are from a 5 min patchwerk style fight. Which doesn't exist. For cleave/bladestorm fights like garalon or wind lord, TG wins. For long execute phases (high boss max hp) where SMF shines, one handers win by miles.
