Do you think blizz will ever upgrade the basic back pack or let us replace that bag with something of our choice? Or is there someway to do this that im oblivious to?

There is no way to alter the size of the basic backpack. Blizzard has said they agree that the current storage system is lacking, but there's been no talk of a possible solution, let alone a timeframe on a new system.

Just let us remove it already...cant be that hard

They have said in the past that because of the way the code was written, the basic backpack is very hard to change without risking drastic problems. Think of how you would feel if you lost everything in your bags.
They do keep giving us bigger bags for the other slots, and there's void storage, though that's less useful than a regular bank IMO. So they are not completely blind to the storage issues players face.

They said quite awhile ago that it is indeed a programming issue. They suggested that they could change it but haven't been able to ensure that the contents of your bags aren't lost in the process so they've simply said that, for now, they won't be changing it.

Has it ever been asked if we could just have another bag slot? I would be fine with keeping the 16 slot backpack, if I could stick another bag in there somewhere.
Hell, even 1 or 2 specialty bag slots would be nice. If I could keep my 4 normal slots + backpack and still have a slot for a couple profession bags, that would be great.

I don't recall if that was ever discussed but I do believe the 5 bag limit was also fairly ingrained in the base code that everything else has been built upon. As they described it, changing a lot of that stuff would be as difficult as coming in and replacing the foundation of your house while hoping nothing above it gets damaged. They do admit though that it was unfortunate lack of forethought that has made it so difficult for them to make these backpack/bag slot changes.
Makes sense, when they made the initial game they had no idea it would grow as immensely as it has and the initial bag capacity probably felt like more than enough.(##RESPBREAK##)12##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##

Ahha, especially leatherworking bags, which are half the size, that profession requres, and jewelcrafting bags, which have the same issue as LW, a bit less drastic, yet annoying.
and there's void storage
Now, how is THIS crap usable for anything at all?

I've actually exhausted my void storage (very embarrassingly). It's for soulbound, non-unique, non-stackable items - ie, tier gear you might want to store for transmog, novelty items relating to holiday events/quests/etc you just don't want to destroy, etc.... having played for ages and ages I'd accumulated way more novelty items than I ever wanted and that are too special to throw out (including some stuff that you can't get in the game anymore). They've added a whole bunch of novelty items in MoP, too, for some reason (I was just thinking there was too much free space in my inventory)!

What I'd really like to see is something like what RuneScape has (I know, it always feels weird when they actually do something right) - a NPC that stores all the holiday items and such you've obtained in the past and you can retrieve them by talking to him.
Also, regarding being able to upgrade the basic backpack, I seem to recall reading something about how they want to make sure that there's no way for some idiot to accidentally remove all their bags and break the game.

Final Fantasy 11 has had this feature in for a number of years now but their way of storage is quite a bit different. When you start, you have a maximum of 30 pieces in your personal inventory, including what you are wearing, and 50 in your mog safe (bank).
In order to increase your personal storage you had to raise your fame (reputation) with the main faction to be able to pick up quests, which required a few items each upgrade. To upgrade your mog safe you also had to raise the reputation, but also had to have placed a particular bed in your mog house (kind of like an inn but nowhere near as plentiful!) by a certain time on a Sunday, to be able to pick up a quest.
Each one of these quests increased the relevant limit by 10 up to I think 80.
They realised though that players needed more storage so they did a number of things:
*At conventions they gave fans a pack which included a code for an in game item that gave them more storage
*With a new expansion they created an alternate bank where you had to pay in game currency each week to access
*Introduced an alternate bag which mirrored the main bag's capacity but you couldn't equip anything from it, you had to move the items between the bags.
*Introduced NPC's that would store full sets of armour for a ticket (the ticket didn't use inventory space), to get these back you had to pay a small amount
*Introduced NPC's that would store and retrieve holiday/vanity items
Obviously the games are both coded completely differently but they both had the same storage issues and were looking for ways to help the players, it can just take a long time and a lot of testing when you're delving back to the original code. They just have to find ways to be ... creative.

This. My void storage is completely full too - mostly with tabards, transmog gear, novelty items etc.

If they ever do get around the programming issue and implement this they could make this another gold sink, since they like gold sinks. I know so many people who'd part with a considerable amount of gold to be able to upgrade that old backpack for a current expansion bag.
This. My void storage is completely full too - mostly with tabards, transmog gear, novelty items etc.
I'm in your boat too. void storage full, bank full, inventory nearly full. I am a serious transmog/novelty/unavailable item addict. I do not have any BoE or BoA stuff on my main like crafting materials or anything. Most of my stuff is soulbound gear, weapons, holiday/novelty items. Adding a tabard UI has been tossed around different forums for a long time but either they don't want to or cannot program it.(##RESPBREAK##)12##DELIM##Sas148##DELIM##

they should make it part of the levelling questline, 22 slots at 90, 20 at 85, 18 at 80

I think they should work on a phased housing system similar to the farms. Even if they did it similar to LoTRO it would be amazing.
Provide a zone of houses that are in their own instance... flavored to your race (IE: Pandarians live in Panda houses, Gnomes in Gnome houses, etc.) and phased to your level.
A level 80 (as an example) the housing market is opened to you, and has a few vendors that you can utilize to increase your capabilities. As you level more vendors are phased in until at level 90 you can buy a BoA spellbook (like cold-weather flying) that allows your other toons into your house.
Profession Vendors, Bankers, etc. (no AH) could be put into the zone... and your house could contain profession specific chests or "workshops" or whatever that you could upgrade.
Say you have a Tailor - spend 10k and get a "Tailoring shop" added to your house that has 5 chests (30 slot) that only hold cloth and other tailoring items.
You have an engineer? spend another 10k and get a "Tinker Shop", etc.
Being in the shop qualifies for the requirements like anvil/forge/cooking fire/whatever.
It'd provide great flavor, and easy modifications. Since it's a 30 slot unique item container (which doesn't exist) they could open up a whole new model. Since they're only available in your home... it doesn't MATTER if everyone had it - it'd encourage greater timesinks.
Make available non-combat animals (little unclickable chickens to roam around, or roaches or whatever), paintings, furniture, etc.

Yeah, I really hope a shared house is in the future. It was one of the really best feature of UO.
Also, I think it would actually cut down on the ´items´ stored since we wouldn´t have to keep duplicates on different characters.

Or, they could quit nickel and dime-ing us on bag upgrades. Go ahead and make a 30 slot bag that doesnt need a daily or weekly cooldown to make.

what does it matter if they do or dont? it is how it is. wanna make extra large bags, use the upper tier mats.
atleast the Cd dependency keeps the prices higher for longer on the AH
