Ok, so I've been happily using a nice no-autounshift NSHT macro:
#showtooltip
/console autounshift 0
/castsequence reset=60 Nature's Swiftness, Rebirth;Rebirth; []Healing Touch
/console autounshift 1
(1st line extra code is to allow unshifting+hardcasting HT if out of combat)

Hmm. I guess I just don't try to cast heals or Rebirth when I know I can't do it. Seems like a lot of complication.

Bit of an unhelpful reply...?
In any case, it might seem complicated, but not all complication is bad. The point remains that especially when tanking, I really can't afford to switch targets for Rebirth. And the 3-4s (at least) it takes to acquire a target and cast rebirth is often pushing it in terms of how much time I have to spare, if eg. trying to Rebirth between tankswaps. So I'd like to be able to use it with a mouseover macro, and off the NS instant cast, since I
really
can't afford to shift out of bear when tanking.
For cat, the rush isn't maybe that bad, but PS is up so often there's little reason not to use it, and give myself those 3-4s (at least) for more dps.
Progress report: didn't get any helpful corpses to test out the res portion that previous night, forgotten about it after. Trying it in raids usually hasn't worked, so I think there's something wrong. Heals seem to be working normally even with the modifications.

That's quite unfortunate that you, the tank, is the only player that can Battle Rez, so it makes things complicated. You may want to rethink your raid composition.
Fortunately, most of the boss encounters in the current raids allow you to battle rez without the need of NS. You can BR someone when you are currently not tanking, or you get given a small window of opportinuty to BR someone. Also noting, that it isnt bad to switch out of Bear Form, your only loss is losing whatever Rage you had at the time, which doesnt really matter, you will only lose your Vengeance if you go in to Cat Form. That 150k DAMAGE you miss out by BR'ing someone is nothing to worry about.
What I'm saying is, It may be best go to with Renewal rather than NS. The fights where you have no chance to pop out of Bear and BR someone, are easy fights and no one should be dying anyway (Stone Guards, Spirit Kings, Emporers)
#showtooltip
/use Rebirth
/use Healing Touch
I'm not on my home computer atm, so I cant really try it out or anything, just doing it off the top of my head.
But that macro above will Cast HT on your mouseover target, if none, your current target, if none, yourself. and the same for Rebirth while holding a modifier key. I'm not sure where to put the Natures Swiftness part, you may need to do some trial and error for that part. I would myself but as I said, im not at home.

Bit of an unhelpful reply...?
Well, when I'm tanking and I'm the only available Combat Resurrection, I have to time it with boss abilities and sometimes use Cat Form and Dash to get distance to get it off. Even then, it remains a manual process. I don't want my macros to block me from doing something I want to do. If I want to literally cast Rebirth between weapon swings (or
during
weapon swings -- I've done that too), then it should work and with a minimum of button presses.
It's just preference.
Additionally, if you use...

...tags in your posts, it makes macros easier to read. If you want small code, use...
Was that more helpful?

I've sort of abandoned the NS idea, figured out it would be simpler to just make a macro that assumes I have an instacast from something, either NS or PS, and so currently I have:
#showtooltip
/run if InCombatLockdown() then SetCVar("autounshift",0) end
/cast Rebirth;
That worked when I tested with a guildie (dismount to suicide fall near Shrine target dummies), mouseovering over corpse. Of course in a raid environment, would be practically required to mouseover the raid frame. Which as of tonight doesn't seem to be working. and heals are working fine. I'm thinking either I need for HT, or more probably, I might switch to a line for Rebirth.
As for NS vs. Renewal, I mainly prefer NS for it's larger flexibility and above all shorter cooldown. The healing done isn't that big of a difference. I started playing this druid in TBC, so am quite familiar with various possible tricks like ressing between swings; I would just like to start doing things better.
Maybe I should just get clique/an equivalent and see if I can config that for click-cast rebirth...

You can.

Shift+Right Click is my Revive/Rebirth/Innervate Clique macro.
/use Revive; Rebirth; Innervate

Yea, apparently the problem was all along that mouseover would require mousing over the corpse, not just unitframes... the mouseover for HT works fine on models (tested while questing just now), but not on either party unit frame, or grid's unit frame.
"Final" version of the macro, if anyone's interested (I'll likely be keeping it in this form, even though I am planning on getting Clique for this now):
#showtooltip
/run if InCombatLockdown() then SetCVar("autounshift",0) end
/cast Rebirth;
Note that even without an instacast this does still cast Rebirth/HT, if you first shift out manually.
