Leaving SM on autocast will use it more frequently, and therefore keep you up better - at least in both pve and less organized pvp (arena might be the exception, though I do not have any arena experience to draw on)

The pet doesn't cast it when you are at full health,, only when you can actually recieve healing.
The macro works well enough, its just unneeded (with teh caveat that I have no exerience with Arena)

If spirit mend is left on autocast, it will be used 'smartly'. The pet will only heal someone in your party/raid, so if you are soloing, it will only be used on yourself or the pet (only the spirit beast itself is eligible for its own heal, no other pets will be healed).
caveat, at least thats how it worked last time I tested it, which was back in 5.1, but I did not note any difference when 5.2 rolled around.

And to conserve spacee
/use Spirit Mend
/cast and /use can be used interchangeably - and having had a couple of macros that hit the 255 char limit I found every way Icoud think of to conserve space.
*still wanting /mount variables for random mount.*

The last one posted (by Zakkhar, or modified by me) is more effective than the one you posted, apart from not using deterrence, which I assume you would want ona different buttn anyway, as the cd's don't align. Not using things when they are available/needed because some other ability isn't ready yet seems very suboptimal.
/use Spirit Mend
Removes the need for focus target, so you can use the focus target for something else.

The fact was that he was implying that my macro was next to useless.
To be fair, I wasn't implying any such thing, I was stating it outright with a very clear caveat about arenas.
Then you started talking about arena, which is fair enough.
And no, this forum isn't for expert macroers, but your macro could be significantly improved, which you recieved suggestions to - you may not want them, but some of those that read the topic later may.
Nitpicking can be very useful, especially when trying to become better at something, its the nits that make you scratch your head.
It may well be in fact why this forum is so quiet as it wasn't always this way.
You will also find that the forum (not just this one, but wow forums in general) are slowng down ove rthe course of more and more information being readily available, either in guides or in the game (why ask a question on a forum when the answer is in the guide or game).

In the end, you are clearing your focus. It's not optimal since you usually want to set focus on enemies, so you can cast abilities such as scatter shot, silencing shot... It's already hard to keep a target on focus when there are abilities like mage images, rogue's vanish, feign death, priest's vanish, etc. Your macro just doesn't help it at all and is very ineffcient.
