Hi there I apologize if this has been asked before but i cant seem to find the answer. How do i make a macro that when the key is held down, the spell casted in conjuction will be cast on a mouse-overed target. For example i wish to cast any of my spells on a mouseovered target only when i hold down the middle-mouse button.
so when my incinerate spell is key 1 for example...i wish to cast it on a mouseovered target when i hold down the middle mouse button and then key 1.
Thank you. :D

Mouse button + key is not possible, the only supported modifiers are Alt, Shift and Ctrl.
e.g.
/cast
would cast Incinerate on your mouseover target (if there is one) when you press the key with Alt held, otherwise on your normal target.

A variation on the above:
/use
/use
because it's shorter than
/cast
, so you save some macro space. They are identical, so you can indeed
/use
a spell and
/cast
an item.
@mouseover
instead of
target=mouseover
for the same reason; it's also easier to read through larger macros when you use
@
instead of
target=
, so it's good practice to use
@
universally.
harm
and
nodead
instead of
exists
.
harm
implies
exists
, but restricts it to only enemies -- so if you're mousing over your party member it won't try to cast on them -- instead falling back to your target. (
help
is the opposite of that, if you want to restrict it to only friendly targets.)
nodead
prevents the spell from attempting to cast on a dead target -- if you're mousing over a corpse, the macro will default to the target.

You could make the macro do different things depending on alt or shift or whatever being held and then bind the macro to your middle mouse button which in the end would give you the functionality you are looking for. Modifying which spell the middle mouse button casts rather than trying to use it as a mod.

Since Tiito originally asked about casting with a mouse button, instead of using macros, use
Clique
instead.

I'd like to take this opportunity to declare my love for /use, too :P Everything that makes macros shorter. I've hit the 255 symbol limit several times.

Then you get a
/glare
, too.

why dont you like /use pelf?

Because while I might
use
a Fireball to burn your face, I still have to
/cast
it first
:)
.
It's mostly aesthetic -- a semantic and/or an over-eagerness complaint. I'll swap to
/use
, but only if I
need
to; I won't just always use it. Plus, I think it's funny to be ornery over fine details like this.
