Make a new guild then, and turn it into what you want.

No, the point seems to be that you can't understand why you should be in a guild....then leave. Or make your own. I've got split toons; some on both factions, and the guilds I'm in both of those are active, talkative, and they keep me laughing. I love my guilds, really that simple.
If you want to 'bring back' the feeling, then go out and do it, and don't just complain.

Back in the day, being in a guild or not in a guild meant the difference between being able to do dungeons or raids or not. Yes, you could post on trade or LFG but it could take hours to get a group together and hope that everyone was competent and dependable enough to complete the instance.
If you were part of a guild, several groups for an instance or if you've got a big enough guild members present, you'd run a raid that the guild will schedule for a set time. You'd almost always be able to find a higher lever guildmate(s) to jump on an alt to run an instance.
Today, with the cross realm instances, knocking out a dungeon to advance some questline is a piece of cake without the aid of a guild.
On my main realm, I'm still a member of a level 25 guild with all the perks. I've been a member of that guild before any of us were 80s and guild levels/DKs/etc. didn't exist. That realm has become very full and on my laptop, I get too much lag and beyond a couple of original guild members, the guild is fairly silent.
I moved to a realm that was recommended to attempt the "Ironman Challenge". I leveled a couple of toons there without a guild and have had little troubles. I no longer get to raid since I now work evenings so not being in a guild for that aspect has not effected me.
Right now, there are still several useful guild perks like mass resurrection, hearthstone cool down, etc. that would be unwise to lose just because you don't see the need to be in a guild.

And yet it is one of those perks which I blame for the large scale change in guild culture. I am talking about Cash Flow which has turned running a guild into a profitable business for many guild masters - and they behave accordingly. Personally, I dont bother with those anymore. The perks are negligible.
That said, there still is the other type of guild. It might be hard to get into those, though, because they are tightly knit communities who are usually wary of new members. Your best bet might be being on the lookout for guild runs recruiting non-guildies to fill spots. Those runs usually give a pretty good impression on how well a guild works. If you manage to put yourself into a good light and do a couple of runs with them, they might invite you.

This pretty much.
Allowing guilds to have perks and earn money was a bad idea, Overnight thousands of cesspool guild sprang up purely so they would eventually make the guild master gold.
These are the guilds you have been in.
You need to do some research and find the real guilds on your server and then you'll have an experience like Adamsm.
