Pally Or DK?

I currently have an endgame Warlock and Druid. I am considering leveling one of my mid level alts up for WotLK. I am leaning towards my ret. pally, but I was wondering if the DK is going to have the same damage output potential or should I stick to the pally. What are the pros/cons of the two? Any help would be appreciated.

Ret paladins and Death knights should do about the same damage. The major difference between the two is the play style. Death knights start out at level 55, so you can try one and do the starting quests to see if you like it. Death knights have more complex and rigid rotations than Ret pallies, which can be a good or bad thing depending on your preferences. Both can respec to tank, but the Paladin can also be a healer.
In the end, it's more an issue of which one you like better because they perform similarly.

I've played a Warrior, Warlock, and Paladin at 70. Paladin I like the least of all of them, and while the new changes look really good, the play style will remain the same. I'm only talking about ret spec because you mentioned damage dealing.
I'm going to roll DK because I like the darkness aspect, I liked having a different mechanic other than mana for my special abilities when I played warrior and DK has that. I also like the option to summon a buddy (the ghoul) and I like fact that it's new.
I can tell you that I leveled 1-70 paladin when BC came out as fast as I could and it was the most boring leveling experience ever. Not a whole lot changes from lvl 1-70, its similar buffs, heals, and attack rotations the whole way. I also don't like how paladin doesn't seem to have a -fun- ability. I love being able to charge and intercept and overpower as warrior, I love the warlocks pets and fears, but to me paladin bubble just feels lame. Very useful, strong, but lame.

As everyone else has said, try both and see what you like. They are pretty different classes, one with a pet and damage and the other healing and damage. Both should be able to tank fairly well, but I guess the paladin is the true hybrid. It can perform all 3 roles of healing, tanking, and dps.
I think the majority of people will at least try the DK just for the starting quest. I heard that's supposed to be phenominal! Take that time to determine if the DK is fun for you or not.
I've leveled a paladin pre and post 3.01 patch. Its a world of difference and if you go ret, you will basically be running fine after level 42. At 42 you'll be able to max out Judgements of the Wise and have essentially unlimited mana. This latest patch completely changes paladin leveling imo and makes it so much easier and faster.
