Can confirm! Once you reach exalted with Valarjar, go to Halls of Valor and kill Hyrja. She drops the Crest of the Lightborn ;)

The staff is made by combining two reagents, Crest of the Lightborn and Rod of the Ascended. Rod of the Ascended is bought at Valdemar Stormseeker when Exalted with the Valarjar. Reaching exalted:

- World quests, Storyline quests in Stormheim (various rep gains)
- The Valarjar/The Kirin Tor of Dalaran Emissary Word quests. (both +1500, the Kirin Tor only if you choose Greater Valarjar Insignia)
- Halls of Valor and Maw of Souls regardless of difficulty (+250 per run)
- (Update) Valarjar Insignia can be looted from Vrykul Ancestral Chest, plus as a reward from certain Class Hall missions (with another insignia as a bonus reward, if the bonus roll is successful!)

If you want to get this appearance asap, I suggest doing all Stormheim World Quests, regardless of reward. Remember that quests spawn even after the daily reset.

You can also spam normal dungeons. As a healer the queues are near instantaneous. Maw of Souls is preferable as it is faster than Halls of Valor. I've pugged a lot lately and it's around ~15 to ~20 mins (vs. ~35 to ~40 for HoV). If you make a premade group with good gear dedicated to farm to exalted, it can be done in less.

Do not forget to visit the Darkmoon Carousel for the 10% rep buff~~, and to stock up on Darkmoon Top Hat for when the Fair ends.~~

Update

I reached exalted today and went straight to Halls of Valor. I was very disappointed to discover that Crest of the Lightborn is not a guaranteed drop from Hyrja (manually queued for heroic HoV).

Update 2

At 10 Hyrja kills (1 heroic, 9 normal). The Crest is nowhere to be seen. ~~It seems it has a very low chance to drop~~. Edit: I've removed the previous sentence because I inadvertently mislead someone into thinking the drop chance is abysmally low, as in, mount-like drop chance, and he was disheartened from pursuing the completion of the skin. ''You might need a few of runs, unless you are extremely unlucky'' is more accurate, especially now that more people are reporting in. So, don't give this up!

Update 3

Crest dropped from the first Heroic after reset. ~~I am wondering whether there's some hidden lock-out where you get 1 chance to get the item per day.~~ As per armonde's comment, it seems there isn't some hidden lock out, just pure RNG.

For those that already have the hidden appearance, Here's how to track your hidden artifact appearance color variants through achievement progress:

/run AddTrackedAchievement(11152) - Complete 30 dungeons using a hidden artifact appearance. (This achievement does not display correctly)
/run AddTrackedAchievement(11153) - Complete 200 world quests using a hidden artifact appearance.
/run AddTrackedAchievement(11154) - Kill 1,000 players using a hidden artifact appearance.

Check all your hidden artifact appearance progress using this script

Note: Completing any of these achievements will complete them for all your other specializations on that character, regardless of having unlocked the consumable items for your other specs.

There seems to be one bug, if you have the hidden artifact of disc priest and unlocked the pvp color (the last one by getting 1000 honor kills). Then you have the last color of this holy hidden artifact too (the blue one) and therefor can use the hidden artifact appearance.

Even tho, I do not have exalted nor did I get the holy hidden artifact yet!

It is okay, as the priest is not my main, it is my second character in legion, but I also did not made exalted on my main, too. So it has to be a bug I guess.

I got mine in 5 runs. I know I'm one of the lucky ones but keep running it and you will get it from Hyrjal.

Can we just appreciate how well all the colors go together for each of the tints? Someone did a great job in picking colors that mix really, really well.

A little late to the party here but does anyone know if the Rod of the Ascended was removed with the BfA pre-patch as the vendor doesn't seem to have it anymore :/

To unlock the color variants, do you need to complete dungeons and world quests from legion, or anywhere?

So I just got this today on my priest but the base default color option is not showing up in selections when I try to xmog. The other one I have is though. Did I do something wrong? Or is this a known bug?

This is the right macro to keep track of your hidden appearances (you must have unlocked the appearance on this specific character first, otherwise it won't work!) 28.12.2023

For anyone wondering/confused like I was as it seems the information here is a bit old.

I got this hidden appearance in 10.2.6. So it still is available.

I used timewalking tokens from my other chars to get my priest to exalted with valajar (50 timewarped badges each).

After that, I ran a full HoV in normal (my priest is level 60 when cap is 70) as Shadow. The crest did not drop.

So then I bought the Rod of the Ascended for 1600g

Ran Mythic and did the first boss and Hyrja ONLY - nothing.

Ran it again in Normal (first boss and Hyrja only), got the Crest of the Lightborn from Hyrja.
