You seem excited about it, Fony, do you think you might actually play this for fun instead of for reviews?Personally, I'm interested in Rift but I likely won't play it for a few months.
Rift is positioning itself as a WoW-killer. I saw a skyscraper ad yesterday on some other site that said, "We're not in Azeroth anymore" or something to that effect. This, to me, says that Rift sucks and the people who made it know it. If they had ANY confidence in their product at all, they'd be satisfied with a positive campaign promoting their own game, rather than putting ads out there that try to denounce preceding games without which Rift wouldn't even be here. That and the videos I've seen of Rift make it looks like a mashup of previous MMOs. *shrug*
Well, I'm currently waiting for Beta 7 to hit on the 15th and I'll give it another crack. So far, I'm liking it. I've been playing WoW for years and it (actually, moreso me) is becoming tired. It's the little things I think that are starting to add up over the years and I've been looking for something different to give me some WoW downtime.I think RIFT *may* be it. Couldn't get into Star Trek Online (ships fighting in space isn't my thing I found). RIFT is more mature (at least so I've found so far). It's limited to an adult audience atm (don't know if that will continue), the graphics and content are also mature. While I love WoW, I am getting sick of the 13 yr old idiots, the unnecessary commentary in chat, and overall the lack of maturity I'm finding in general (gawd, you think all your Xmas's have come at once when you don't get someone having a hissy fit in a Dungeon atm). I have limited time to commit to any game with family and study and being %^&*ed around in Dungeons and spending my time trying to encourage a tired Guild populace back into Raiding is draining.I just don't think gaming should be so hard - hard in the social regard. While I don't think WoW will be killed off (Blizzard will do that itself in it's own time), I do think that there is a group of people out there looking for an MMO which offers 18+ content and social atmosphere and RIFT may just fill that void. I also think that there are a lot of current WoW players who are tired and are looking for something to refresh their zeal for MMOs.
The video may make rift seem easy but remember these are the first three dungeons players face. They are intended to be as easy as say Ragefire Chams or Gnomeregan (if you want a wow comparison). Honestly I'm going to try it out for maybe a month for a break from wow. The Beta has been rather enjoyable but I don't think it will fully replace wow coming out. I might play it more if it gets some of the polish wow has had.
I'm hearing extremely good things about RIFT and I'll definitely be trying it out. After all, as a proper slave to Valve I made sure to purchase it so I could get my Team Fortress 2 items...
So much hostility!People are becoming over defensive or offensive about the games they play. I personally love WoW but would be interested in seeing what Rift has to offer. Also, putting some competition against Blizzard can only push them into further improving their own products!Yes the graphics look more real in Rift but people shouldn't say that as a jibe against WoW. They purposefully made the more quirky look that we have grown accustomed to. You either like the style or you don't. There is no wrong or right way to describe the differences between the two games. Finally, to say WoW is too easy seems an exaggeration to me. The game has a very generous learning curve and allows people who don't even game at all to start playing. However at the other end of the scale, it has taken the worlds 'best guild' weeks to clear the end game content and have admitted to it being a long hard slog. When a game can offer this type of experience to such a wide market, is there any wonder it's the market leader?
I honestly don't see what people see in Rift. Sure, it's about as fun as leveling a new class in WoW in zones you haven't done before, but beyond that, I'd rather stick with the game that I know inside and out and has a much more stable community.
