I like how Blizzard is making that, and how it is quick and easy to use and download, but the way that you have to pay $USD is total bull&*!@. Atleast with WoWI and other AddOn sites you could get them for free.

This is not in poor taste, this is the perfect setup for an april fool's joke. However, sadly, it didn't quite work out since one of the first non-moderator comments was calling it out.
To be honest, this isn't totally false. Why else would Blizzard make it against their ToU to sell AddOn's? This may be an April Fools' joke but Activision-Blizzard will most likely be considering something like this idea (would be pointless though because people would just go for the free ones, there are plenty of mods that don't ask for donations).Besides that, the policies flawed anyways. I can ask for donations for hosting, that's not for the addon. That's a technicality, in fact, many addon developers only need donations for hosting. Hosting isn't free, Blizzard knows this since they pay for servers. They can try and stop developers from asking donations towards hosting costs but be damned if the law will let them.
Just sos ya know, they aren't telling you to stop asking for donations, just don't put the donation button in game. Put it on your website. Leastwise that's what I read.
Damn! I thought it didnt make sense, but fell for it, then laughed hard on my silly-ness. As for defense, I read it on 2nd of April and didnt check the date of the blog! :D
Am I the only one who thinks this isn't entirely a stupid idea? Personally I would absolutely prefer to have a blizzard moderated addon database instead of individual, possibly malicious, websites distributing them. I don't quite trust curse.com, I don't particularly like wowinterface.com and I'm partial to think that everyone can be compromized by hackers if they get their addons though a website that's not properly moderated. Call it paranoia if you must, but I'd hate to get my account hacked or get scammed.Oh and..
I do agree with you that the real threat from addons probably aren't that big in reality, but a single entity can far easiler maintain and manage addons than several.Where to go to get the latest update? You'll get 3 websites or more at the moment, wouldn't it be wonderful if you only had to go one place, and never have to open a browser or fiddle about with installing them ever again?I find maintaining my addons a real tedious task and I hate it, if it was a Blizzard ingame thing, then updating them would be fluent and without any trouble. Even if they did raise the subscription price for those joining in on this service, I'd pay it. But selling addons in particular, no.
News Post announcing big change on April First = lawlzorz. If Malagayne is supporting WoWInterfaces joke, good for him... If he FELL for it, then not so good for him >.<
