Children's Week Guide - School of Hard Knocks How-To
With
Children's Week
underway, players shooting for
What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been
will be wanting to check this holiday off their list.
Children's Week
brings the meta's most hated achievement:
School of Hard Knocks
. Wowhead has a short and sweet guide to help you get this done with the minimum of fuss. Let's go from the easiest to the hardest. If you're looking for a full guide to all the achievements and rewards from this holiday, check out
Wowhead's Children's Week Guide
.
This guide assumes you have little or no PvP experience, and we've got tips for avoiding PvP if you're a die-hard PvE-focused player who just wants to get this done and never enter a Battleground again.
First up,
always
have your orphan out in these battlegrounds. No exceptions - you wouldn't want to complete one of these objectives only to realize your orphan wasn't there to see it and your hard work was for nothing.
2014 Children's Week Guide (April 28 - May 5)
Children's Week
is a week in which we brave a challenge greater than any undead monstrosity and a task more daunting than saving the world. We must become parents for all those orphans throughout Azeroth and make sure they are happy. We can't tank a child's fears, we can't heal its memories of pain, nor can we DPS the sorrow out of them. So equip your toys, make a mage conjure a candy table, fill your quiver with joy, load your gun with something colorful, and venture into the World of Parenting!
Children's Week
begins on
April 28th
at
11:01 AM
(server time) and ends on
May 5th
at
11:00 AM
.
Due to the advent of Cataclysm,
Children's Week
was changed in 2011 to have two new pets and redone locations for the initial tier of quests.
There's nothing new in 2014, but since all vanity pets are now battle pets in Mists of Pandaria, you might be more interested in collecting pets this expansion! Since battle pets are also account-wide, you can collect different sets of pets on your alts to round out your collection faster.

Patch 5.4.7 and Season 15 PvP Guide
Patch 5.4.7 is scheduled to go live today on Tuesday, February 18th and this mini-guide covers all the patch changes and additions.
This is mainly a PvP patch with the start of Season 15. There are also some tweaks to Timeless Isle weapons and better loot from the Celestials. There is also a bug where all Recruit-a-Friend and Scroll-of-Resurrection mounts aren't showing up for players in-game, but that should be fixed
next realm restart
.
Also, earlier today we covered how
Level 90 boosts were visible in the in-game store and cost $60
, but after more server maintenance, that has been removed. No level 90 boosting today!
Celestials and Gear Changes
The four celestials on the
Timeless Isle
now drop ilvl 550 Season 15 PvP gear instead of ilvl 522 Season 14 PvP gear. These items are fairly good for new alts or players that don't raid Normal

Pop Culture References in WoW: NPCs and Quests from Games and Music
We're continuing our series of pop culture reference posts with a look at NPCs and quests that are clever references to games and music! In past weekends, we've covered items, achievements, and player tributes.
Did you know that many Operation Shieldwall and Dominance Offensive dailies are references to Queen songs? Or that Archmage Vargoth quotes "Hotel California"? Perhaps you're nostalgic for the long
Legend of Zelda
questline removed in Cataclysm, but are happy Mario and Luigi are safe in Un'Goro--unlike Dadanga.
We'll be doing another post on NPCs and Quests soon covering other topics like books, movies, and TV shows.

Pop Culture Item References: Comics, Books, Music, and Poetry
Earlier this week, we took a look at
pop-culture references in WoW items
--movies, TV, and video games. Today we've got the remaining items covered--books, music, comics, and poetry! You'd be surprised how many poetry references there are, as nearly all Justice and Valor Point gear from Cataclysm's launch is a reference to poetry by Keats or Eliot.
There are many more references outside the scope of these item guides, such as NPCs, achievements, and quests. There's even a subset of items named after WoW players, like
Perculia's Peculiar Signet
and
Hamlet's Wind-Whipped Leggings
. If you like these types of guides, we'll consider doing more.

Since there's so many item references, we've broken it up into two guides. This guide covers the "pop" of pop culture--video games, movies, television, and other celebrities.
There are many more references and tributes outside the scope of this guide--items named after players, NPCs, achievements, and quests. If you like these types of posts, we'll consider doing more on references.
