The BFF Report..er.. Reports from the Worgen Starting Zones!
I finally got into Cataclysm and with it, over 800gb of in game footage that I have to somehow squeeze into these tiny ten minute segments. The first piece of coverage I'm offering up is a walkthrough of the Worgen starting zone. Besides all the bareback riding, missed opportunities for good Twilight jokes (is there such thing?), and epic phasing abuse, Blizz seems to have taken a completely different approach to creating these zones than what we are used to.
Think Westfall... probably 80% of the quests are centered at Sentinel Hill, Gilneas is the complete opposite. I found myself doing 2-3 quests at each outpost/abandoned house/street corner before moving on to the next mini-hub. This was cool and all, but I found that (besides Grandma Wahl) in the end, I didn't really care about any of them. I mean, Ill never forget Mankrik, Jitters, the fat drunk in Westfall hills, but these guys? Who cares!
*OMG SPOILER ALART!11*
It's not like I'm going to see them again anyways...

The BFF Report Welcomes You to the Future...?
When I first walked in the door at E3, there was this super attractive young lady (shocker, right?) who took my hand and escorted me over to this giant, baby food orange booth. She likely picked me because of my incredible aura of masculinity, and not because Dolby was standing right behind me sporting a super giant news camera, amirite? She dropped a funky PS3'esque controller into my, now sweaty, palm and introduced me to the future of gaming. Sort of..
You guys ever heard of this fancy "cloud computing" technology that allows you to access documents from virtually any computer terminal? Well, replace those silly DPS calculators with games and you have OnLive. The game I was playing was not hosted by any console or gaming PC anywhere in the vicinity, but rather being streamed, live, over the interwebs, to the giant LCD TV in front of me. The first thing that came to mind was "LOLOLLOLatency," but after ninja tapping the controller a few times...
btw, I got her number.

ZAM's TERA Online Site Live
I don't know how many of you follow other MMOs—I know that I can't imagine really playing more than one at a time. But there are two coming up in the near future that I'm actually really excited about—BioWare's
The Old Republic
, and
TERA Online
.
TERA is exciting to me, partially because of the art style but mostly because of the gameplay. It's calling itself an "Action RPG", which in practical terms means that it deals with the most basic interface problem in all MMOs—the fact that most basic combat just involves standing still and deciding what order to push your buttons in. In TERA you actually have to
move out of the way
when people shoot at you. If you're firing a bow, you actually need to
hit
your target. The combat has sort of a next-generation
Secret of Mana
feel to it.
So this seems like a perfect time, then, to point out that ZAM has their
TERA site
up! If you're interested in following news about this game as well, or in following/updating our wiki, come and take a look!

The BFF Report Pretends to have Never Played WoW...
Remember back when all of you claim to have started playing WoW? You know, the pre-beta days when the game was nothing but conceptual drawings and quest ideas jotted on a notepad. That's when the game was hardcore, unlike today, where these n00bs benefit from Blizzard's "casual friendly" experience. Back then, we used to have to grind through countless sheets of college rule and RNG was only a dice roll away.
Well, I decided to pretend that none of that ever happened and that I was just another casual in today's gaming industry trying to mooch a G. Let's see how I did..

Aion 1.9 Is Out, and I Know You Guys Care
I told someone that I would hook it up with a quick BFF Report for Aion 1.9, and I thought there would be enough stuff to go over... Wow, was I wrong. I mean, the patchnotes are lengthy, but outside of my incredibly butch gladiator toon, there wasn't much to look at. In the end, I somehow managed to squeeze out a few minutes of coverage and even had enough time to highlight some E3 footage that's hosted on our new
YouTube
channel.
BTW, I have some plans for an upcoming BFFR and need your input...
Tell me 3 things that you despised about leveling 1-20 in

BFF Report - All Points O'Brien
I went to E3 last week to pretty much just hit on booth babes, but I partied a little too hard and now I have this "Malgayne pwnz" tribal henna tattoo on my left rump-cheek (near the crease). I vaguely remember getting the chance to
interview tons of developers
making games that somehow will all be the next "WoW killer," and even went toe-to-toe with EJ "
lolhandlebarmustache
" Moreland, lead designer for APB! Speaking of...
This week's BFF Report is all about gameplay in All Points Bulletin... and man what a controversial subject that is amirite!?? Seriously, talk about panties->bunched when they announced that they embargoed reviews until after release (now down to July 2nd, UK release date). Then there are all the lone-wolf types who try and play this massive MULTIPLAYER game all by their lonesome and then QQ about how boring it is (they are right, btw). Truth be told, the game has it's flaws, but the good news is that the
developers are aware
of the community's concern... now let's see if they actually do anything about it.

BFF Report Rummages Through Steam's Indie Bin
After months of heated debate and seventeen riveting
Hungry Hungry Hippos
face-offs,
Malgayne
has finally granted access for yours truly to post BFF Report episodes here on the lovely Wowhead Blog. And, while it may have cost me twenty big-toe massage sessions and my dignity, I'm proud to have finally made it to this stage in my life. Now to the meat and healthy carbohydrates portion of this week's post...
Last week I took it upon myself to dig through the dollar(ish) bin in the XBOX Live market and left all you PC gamers mildly unsatisfied. As a result, I've turned my focus to Steam in hopes to find something indie, cheap and worthy of my precious in-between-MMOs time... which I apparently have had ample amounts of these past few weeks!
btw shoutouts to the homiez.. StephX2, Sinjn, Nanu, Sopheak, Facundo the Small, Mel, JB, br0, (Atax) and biym Math...#1

TankSpot Joins the ZAM Network
Ladies and gentlemen, please join me in welcoming the newest member of the ZAM Network...
For those of you who have never visited,
TankSpot
is the premier WoW video site on the internet, and they have unmistakably the best strategy videos available. A number of us here at Wowhead are already regular users, and we're very excited about the opportunity to work directly with them.
So what does this mean for Tankspot users? Firstly, the entire staff at TankSpot will be staying on to continue to maintain and improve the site—just like when Wowhead joined ZAM three years ago, you will continue to see the same high quality of content you've always seen from TankSpot. As time goes on, we'll be able to grow the existing site, and add new features and content. Plus, once we get our APIs integrated, ZAM and Wowhead
Premium
users will also get premium privileges on TankSpot, and vice versa!
For Wowhead users, you're going to start see more interactive and video content popping up around the site. In fact, you may have already noticed the first major change: Boss pages on Wowhead now feature

ZAM Interview with Richard Knaak
Cody Bye, the Director of Content of ZAM, has just interviewed
Richard Knaak
, one of the most famous writers of novels and short stories for not only World of Warcraft, but a number of other fictional worlds. Knaak's "Blizzard" bibliography includes novels like
Stormrage
(the latest official Warcraft novel on the market), 3 standalone Diablo novels,
The Sin War
series, Warcraft's
War of the Ancients
trilogy, as well as 2 standalone novels other than
Stormrage
. In addition to those, he has an impressive number of Dragonlance, Dragonrealm, Conan, individual novels... not to mention his short fiction pieces and the manga.
Sadly, this interview didn't quench my thirst for lore (could anything?), but it was an interesting read nonetheless. The interview is after the break!
