Confirmed drop of Dark Whelpling after aproximately 800 kills. In the process also got a ton of rugged and thick leather, and a blue world drop.
The landscape here makes it impossible for farming bots to access, and the whelps are abundant. Happy hunting!

This is a really great place to get your Dark Whelpling, you'll never be out of whelps because they reappear as you kill them, and the distance between them is rather small. For those of us who were used to the whelps in the east of the Badlands, who were really annoying to grind, this place is amazing!

I've found that these mobs are the perfect place to farm thick leather. The mob density is incredible, I've been able to pull up to six mobs at a time on my level 54 hunter, easy. They drop thick leather very consistently, with a little rugged thrown in (nice to stash away when your leatherworking hits that level). It can be a little tough navigating the hills at first, but I quickly got used to it and learned where it was easier to travel and where the best spots to pull are. With the added bonus of the Dark Whelpling having a chance to drop, it doesn't get much better than this.

Got this after about 3 hours of farming (here and there). I would stay there while in LFG and kill while waiting. Done it as a fury warrior. Good luck and happy hunting.

Agreed, this is an amazing farming spot. Particularly for Horde, since right over the hill (in New Kargath) is a vendor to sell trash to as well as a mailbox.

Very nice place to farm for the dark whelp! I managed to get mine in about 20 kills. Now I am working on a second one for my boyfriend, who is too lazy to go farming for non-combat pets. LoL

Even if you are level 85 there is no way to kill them all, loot and skin before they respawn. They seem to be on a 1 min timer after they are skinned to spawn another one.

Drop is about 85% Thick Leather, 10% Rugged Leather and the occasional Hide.

I got a world drop epic as well (level 47 gun that isnt as good as the BoE bows are on a level 44, go figure). No pet though. I'm glad they even drop one as I'm well-known to always have some small animal chasing my kitty-druid around :P

Over 400 skins and no pet, but the gun sold for 250G on the AH before I even got out of the auction house!

If you are farming these at level (46 or so), be careful! The broodlings' mother, Nyxondra, is patting around the area that these mobs occupy. She is a lvl 47 elite and will aggro if you're standing in the wrong spot. She can make short work of a player if caught off guard. Ranged also has to be careful when tabbing to the next broodling when she has patted close by. However, Nyxondra's path does not cover the entire area, so if you stick to the area due west of New Kargath you should be safe.

I got my to drop from Nyxondra's Broodling after about farming straight for around 5 hours or so. I suppose I got lucky but that was the timer on my hunt.

Killed about 556 (.556% for me if I got that right) if the loot I got is right to the tee. Took me anywhere from 2 1/2- 3 1/2 hours. A pretty grueling grind. It is worth noting that Searing Whelp (lvl 38-39) in Duskwallow Marsh have a double drop rate than these Broodlings (.18%) I nearly went to go farm from them but stuck it out and now it's a bit more of an achievement for me. So, you can either farm these or the Searing Whelps. It's up to you. Skinning these are also recommended. 77% Thick leather per skin. I have 512, 145 Rugged Leather, and 16 Thick Hides. I originally went there to farm Thick Leathers so I would skin the ones other players have killed. I will say it earned me not a SINGLE leatherworking skill (currently at 428) and a whopping 0 xp. But I'm a level 75 so it's whatever.

Also worth noting that if you aren't sure about keeping or selling, I checked the Auction House (AH) and it ranged from 4.2k-8.9k if you are thinking about selling. And again, it's up to you.

As of Patch (7.1.5) Confirmed to still drop the dark whelpling. "Also if your (leveling) skinning doent expect these "skinning" loot tabel's to be correct.

Farmed for 2 hours for Dark Whelpling tonight, no drop.

Did get Underworld Band though.

Will put in another 2 hours tomorrow and update this post.

Edit: I put in another 2 hours today and didn't get anything other than BoE greens.

If you intend to solo farm this spot for the pet, you should know that it's possible to put in four hours and not get it.

I'm currently farming this spot for the Thick Leather needed for the Onyxia's Scale Cloak, and the pet dropped after 421 kills. So yeah, in 10.1, the pet can drop from this ones, but is very rare.

Came here to farm thick leather to level a leatherworker. 1,275 kills (give or take a dozen or so) and I got the pet. Fairly easy grind, as far as it goes, due to fast respawns and small area. Took approx 5 hours in 1 go. If you do this with a skinner, you'll get a lot more value out of your time. I came away with 994 thick leather, 245 rugged leather, and 33 thick hides.
