These little turtles can be found all up and down Azshara's coast. When clicked, they give a surprisingly loud groan and complaint for their size.

I have found that these turtles yield a high rare ratio compared to most other pets I've engaged.

I encountered five rares from working my way up The Shattered Strand alone, engaging in either these turtles or the shore crabs. Perhaps it's a good way to inflate numbers for the Quality & Quantity achievements, as it does not have to be unique pets. Perhaps I'm either just extremely lucky, but it feels like at least a fourth or so of these have been rare for me. It's worth checking out, esp being so close to Orgrimmar for Hordies.

NotalgicHybrid. Funny how you should mention that. I've just been trying to capture a rare, but I think after about twenty to twenty-five of them, I've exclusively found 'poor' quality ones. Could there be something going on with time of day, or weather that influences this?

Update: It must've been an extreme bout of bad luck, because I found a common, uncommon and rare right after making this post. It was a little strange though.

I love turtles so I went snooping around the site for them. Azshara is not a place I have ever traveled beyond the occasional archaeology node. However, I went there specifically for the beloved little turtle.

Maybe it's just bad luck but the 1st one I caught was uncommon. The rest, even if they were the same level with higher stats came out common and poor.

Just found mine at the very northern part of the Shattered Strand. There is a huge accumulation of Shore Crabs and a single Turquoise Turtle was wandering around near them, I fought him and he happened to be a rare. He was, as @yakulto mentioned, at 409 health.

Be sure to check all along the shore for this pet. There are *many* spawns this map currently doesn't show. I found one all the way out at the tip of the lower peninsula (90,56) and many between there and the other spawns the map shows on that peninsula.

a very good guide to download is Zygor guide. it shows which are rare, uncommon, etc.. also gives a review with the abilities of all pets (good attacks, bad,...)
i hope it will help the rare-hunters :D

I have been having the strangest combination when fighting the turtles. I seem to be getting a common turtle and a rare skunk every single time. I got this combination 15 times in a row now. Some kind of bug?

These don't always come easy!
Even for a rare this was pretty much of a grind. Maybe I was unlucky, but it took close to 200 kills before I nabbed a rare - and I was careful to go the entire length of the map and hit every single one. Nobody else was in the area, so no competition. At least I picked up a rare Twilight Beetle and one other - I think a skunk I was missing.

They are so cute! but so hard to find a rare one :) took my around 20 turtles to find an uncommend one :)

I was pleasantly surprised to get a rare on my third fight. Fought an uncommon and a poor. They're easy to find, so a rare shouldn't take to long to find.

Really nice battle pet, worth getting if you like nice looking pets & pattle bet colletion, also can be a nice tank pet. Was lucky myself to get a rare on the first try, was very satisfied and all. overall really nice pet.

I wanted a rare one 'cause they were so darn cute. My pet killed the only rare with a crit and, after two more hours of searching and turtle genocide, I couldn't find another. *woe is me*

From my experience, these are only found as primary pets, and not as secondaries.

Fighting these and the Shore Crabs on the beach in Azshara is useful for pet collectors, because altogether the level 5+ pets have the following secondary battle pets:
Robo-Chick
Rabid Nut Varmint 5000
Rabbit
Rat
Skunk
Twilight Spider
Twilight Beetle
