Guide: Making the most of the "Apexis Attenuation" trait

Below is a guide I put together to help get the most bang for your buck when using Solar Priest Vayx in garrison missions that reward Apexis Crystals. This isn't the only way to maximize Apexis Crystal mission rewards and success chances, but the one I personally like and use to get the most out of them. It can require a lot of re-rolling where Abilities and Traits are concerned, so keep that in mind when trying to follow this guide:

Solar Priest Vayx (The Leader):
- Counters: Powerful Spell and Deadly Minions
Trait 1: Apexis Attenuation (Permanent Ability)
Trait 2: Child of Draenor (if Horde) / High Stamina or Burst of Power (if Alliance or Horde player not using Garona and/or Oronok)
Trait 3: Any

Rationale: Powerful Spell and Deadly Minions are by far the most common threats you have to counter, with Powerful Spell showing up 5 times across 5 missions, and Deadly Minions showing up 5 times across 3 missions. Together, one or both of these threats are found in all 6 Apexis missions currently available, with both appearing at least once together in 2 of the Apexis missions. Therefore, it's ideal for Vayx to counter both of these threats, and he can do so as a Fire Mage. The other major threats that need to be countered are Massive Strike, Group Damage, and Magic Debuff, but Vayx cannot learn these counters as a Fire Mage, which is where his teammates will have to help fill that void.

If you're on the horde side, you should strive to get the "Child of Draenor" racial preference on Vayx, which grants a bonus to success chance when teamed up with an Orc. The reason for this is simple: Garona Halforcen and Oronok Torn-heart both have abilities that grant a large bonus to the success chance of a mission, and both of them are orcs. It's also easy to get an orc with the Group Damage and Magic Debuff counters, with Great Mother Geyah being my personal favorite. There are other ways around this, but it's ideal if you can get this trait as a horde player on Vayx and are going to use Garona and Oronok as teammates.

If you're on the alliance side, or just a horde player that doesn't have or want to use Garona and/or Oronok, you should aim for High Stamina or Burst of Power depending on if Solar Priest Vayx or any teammates have the Epic Mount trait. Ideally, you should strive for whichever one you're going to benefit from the most. If your Vayx has the Epic Mount trait, than you should aim for Burst of Power on all of his teammates since Vayx will be used in all 6 Apexis Missions. If no followers you're using for these missions has Epic Mount, then you should aim for High Stamina. Otherwise, aim for whichever trait you'll get to use most.

Finally, you can also consider rolling for a non-Orc racial preference where all the followers you'll be partnering with Vayx are the same race as Vayx's preference if don't have and/or don't plan on getting or using Garona Halforcen and Oronok Torn-heart to fill any of the teammate roles below. However, the benefit to success chance that Garona and Oronok bring are probably better than whatever non-Orc racial preference Vayx might have and gain from working with teammates of that particular race.

Teammate #1 (The Healer)
- Counters: Group Damage and Magic Debuff
- Trait 1: Bird Watcher (Granted by "Guide to Arakkoa Relations" tome)
- Trait 2: Any
- Trait 3: Any

Rationale: Both Group Damage and Magic Debuff are found together in two missions: Emancipation (Group Damage, Magic Debuff, Powerful Spell, and Danger Zones) and Apexis Nexus (Group Damage, Magic Debuff, Powerful Spell, and Massive Strike). These two counters line up perfectly when using Vayx to counter Powerful Spell and Deadly Minions, and helps provide the most coverage possible when it comes to these 2 Apexis missions.

This follower should be given the Bird Watcher racial preference to help boost the success chance when working with Vayx. Horde players should aim for an Orc here (Great Mother Geyah being my personal favorite for this role) if they can get the Child of Draenor trait on Vayx, while Alliance players should aim for whatever follower matches Vayx's racial preference (if he has one). High Stamina and Burst of Power are also helpful here. Which one you want depends on any followers who might have the Epic Mount trait.

Teammate #2 (The Muscle)
- Counters: Massive Strike and Deadly Minions
- Trait 1: Bird Watcher (Granted by "Guide to Arakkoa Relations" tome)
- Trait 2: Any (or Master Assassin if using Garona Halforcen)
- Trait 3: Any

Rationale: Massive Strike is one of the more common threats you face in these missions. However, Apexis missions where Massive Strike is found often have other threats that are hard to cover when Vayx is set up to counter Powerful Spell and Deadly Minions, not to mention Vayx doesn't have any possible abilities to counter this threat. Realistically, you're going to want 2 followers who can counter Massive Strike. This particular follower should pair up Massive Strike with a counter to Deadly Minions, and will help cover these 2 specific Missions: Socrethar Sabotage (Massive strike, Magic Debuff, Deadly Minions x2) and Spring Preening (Powerful Spell, Minion Swarms, and Deadly Minions x2).

Like other followers, you should give this follower the Bird Watcher trait to help boost the mission success chance. Horde players should consider setting up Garona Halforcen to be this teammate due to her Master Assassin bonus, especially if Vayx has the Child of Draenor trait. For alliance players, you should still use Garona to fill this role, but should aim for High Stamina or Burst of Power on this follower depending on if Vayx or this follower has the Epic Mount trait. If you don't have or want to set up Garona this way, try to set up a follower that matches Vayx's racial preference (if applicable) and still aim for High Stamina or Burst of Power.

Teammate #3 (The Brains)
- Counters: Massive Strike and Timed Battle
- Trait 1: Bird Watcher (Granted by "Guide to Arakkoa Relations" tome)
- Trait 2: Any (or Demonic Knowledge if using Oronok Torn-heart)
- Trait 3: Any

Rationale: Like the muscle follower above, this follower should be able to counter Massive Strike since it is one of the most common threats you face on Apexis Missions. However, this follower should also be able to counter Timed Battle instead of Deadly Minions, and their purpose will be to help cover the remaining 2 Apexis missions: Felraiser (Powerful Spell, Timed Battle, and Massive Strike x2) and Highway to Fel (Powerful Spell, Deadly Minions, Massive Strike, and Timed Battle).

Again, this follower should have the Bird Watcher train to help boost mission success chances. Horde players should consider setting up Oronok Torn-heart to be this teammate due to his Demonic Knowledge bonus, especially if Vayx has the Child of Draenor trait. For alliance players, you should still use Oronok to fill this role, but should aim for High Stamina or Burst of Power on this follower depending on if Vayx or this follower has the Epic Mount trait. If you don't have or want to set up Oronok this way, try to set up a follower that matches Vayx's racial preference (if applicable) and still aim for High Stamina or Burst of Power.

Hopefully, this guide will help you get the most out of Apexis Attenuation. It's not the only way, just the way I think is best. I'm always open to hearing about other methods, though :)
