Which, basically translated, is 4 Healers and 10 DPS classes.

In 10 man, you take six of these Gladiators (2 Healers and 4 DPS) and in essence this becomes an Arena match. CC works as long as it would on a player in an Arena, so for Polymorph this would work for 10 seconds, then 5, then 1. So, you can't keep say the Resto Shaman sheeped forever. CC is your friend though, absolutely, as is dispel and purge. If they have Heroism, you should probably get rid of it.

Clothies have lower armour and lower health than their leather and higher counterparts. 20% less in 10 man. Makes bursting your first target a lot easier if you pick a clothie, even better, a clothie healer.

10 Man tactics are fairly simplistic. Kill them before they kill you. They will play to their strengths though. If they see a player on low health, they all divert to kill it. They CC quite a lot too, the Moonkin basically spams his Cyclone, the Warlock his fear. They interrupt like a Rogue on steroids too, the Enhancement Shaman for example knows where everyone is and can shut you down with half a second's notice.

Conventional tactics is to control one healer and destroy the other one first. Discipline Priest and Resto Druid should take preference as Shaman and Paladin can be shut down indefinately with their cast times and inability to cast while moving. Bloodlust definately helps with this. After one healer is dead, the other one, if you can control him, will not be able to keep anything you are taking down alive by himself, and certainly not with a well-timed interrupt or stun.

The main thing to remember! CC is not the enemy. Dispel is not the enemy. Kill a healer, potentially control the other one.

its important to know that the faction champions will jump down from the stands in this encounter. if you are horde, then the alliance will jump down from the right hand side. if ally, the horde jump down from the left hand side. this gives you time to mark your targets and talk over the strategy on kill targets, etc.

first off, there is no agro table, so there is no need for a "tank" per se. a prot warrior is great for CCing the rogue though. keep him perma-hamstrung and stunned and disarmed. how my guild always downs this, is we burst down the shaman first(i pull using death grip, then strangulate), then the holy/disc priest, then the resto druid(if there is one) then the rogue. after that the paladin and warrior take precedence. the mage and shadow priest do little damage so just CC them away.

it is important that no one uses AOE damage like pestilence or divine storm or consecrate. that will just break CC and wont help your DPS since they have a buff that makes them take 75% less aoe damage anyways.

some members in the raid wont be doing anything but CCing and that is fine. it is important that you have a chain of CC working all the time. priests casting mass dispel when they can is also a great thing. DKs are nice in this fight because chains of ice'ing the warrior/paladin doesnt have a DR. and with death grip you can keep the target seperated from the group.

The layout

There were 14 Champions.
They have the buff that reduces AoE damage by 75%, so single target is the way to go.
3 healers out of the 4 class (shaman, druid, priest, and paladin) First week we had shaman, druid, and paladin, this week we had shaman druid and priest.
No aggro table that I can tell, they will just target random people.
They will CC you, so the PvP trinkets will help.
They will use any and all bursting and defensive abilities like Heroism/Blood Lust or Divine Shield.

The fight

Once everyone was in, start the event to see what the classes, mainly to see what type of healers they got. Take this time to buff and the groups. (We had 3 dps group, one for each healer)
No aggro table, 18 -19 dps and 6-7 healers.
Each group had 2 or more interrupters.
Targeted the healers first and CC the dps champions
Kill the healers than the tanks, than dps.
Kill order was priest, shaman, druid, paladin.
Have a DK pull the first healer out of the main group to group 1. Have classes that can fear chain fear the main group to buy time to burn the first healer down.
Group 1 had 12-14 dps, group 2 and 3 had 2-3 dps. Once group one is done, they move to help group 2, than 1 and 3 help finish the last healer.
Once the healers are down, just burn the rest while continuing CCing what you can.

Enjoy the fight, its hectic but very fun.

When a DK in our 10 man tried to Deathgrip the priest, it said it was immune, so I am unsure why pulling with a Deathgrip will give an advantage.

Also, the warlock will cast Hellfire without taking any damage himself.

I know that my role in any encounter would vary a little depending on the group roster and related abilities, but I am looking for a little insight....As an FFB spec mage that has not yet had the chance to do the Faction Champions encounter and does relatively little PvP-style gameplay, I was wondering if my primary role would generally be CC through sheeping, counter-spelling, and spell-stealing, or would it be doing heavy DPS?

If CC is the task, who would typically be the best targets for spells such as amplify / dampen magic?

If DPS is the task, is it worth having a little dip in the Frost tree (secondary spec) for a little better kiting abilities?

If you get the tree druid, a warlock can permanently lock it down by himself using a banish/fear rotation, however tremor totem and cleanses can screw it up some.

Is it just me, or does the raid basically wipe if the warlock starts casting hellfire on 10 man? Every time he did that, at least 3 ppl died almost right away. Just be sure to have interrupts ready for that guy ^^

After some failed attemps in ToC 10 man we found a tactic that may work pretty well.

We was Horde, and met the following Alliance mobs: Paladin, Priest, Druid, Mage, Rogue and Shaman. The Paladin and Priest were the healers.

When we failed our tactic was to nuke down both of the healers and CC the other.
When the healers were dead, the other DPS mobs had already nuked us down.

So we tried this:
Our succesful tactic was to nuke down the Enhance Shaman and Rogue.
In the meanwhile we CCed the healers (Paladin and Priest) only.
After the Shaman and Rogue was dead it was very easy to survive throughout the fight.
Then we nuked the healers and easy job from there on.
This tactic was very easy!

In 25 man, a strat i've found to be rather effective:

start with a warrior charging in to fearbomb, then nuke the crap out of the resto Sham, banish the tree druid, keep disc priest/holy pally interrupted.

When the shaman is dead, burn the arms warrior (careful of bladestorm, melee!), DK, and ret pally

Once their plate dps is dead, focus on burning the disc priest and holy pally

next you wanna deal with their caster dps, rogue, and hunter, be aware of the warlock's hellfire

if there's anything left it should just be the tree druid and hunter/lock pets, and youve pretty much already won

Heroic Champs (10 man)

This fight resembles the regular one, but some of the common strategies do not work any longer.

They appear to be immune to slows, or at least to aoe slows (totem, frost trap) - this means that kiting the melee while burning the healers isn't very workable anymore.

They're immune to taunts as well (though not deathgrip/mocking blow), which makes tanking specs pointless, and army of the dead less amazing (they do still target ghouls though).

The fight's strategy really just amounts to a kill order, with a 'cc what you can' assumption, and that order will vary heavily by both your composition and theirs. Sorry I can't help more with that.

The basic strategy that my group used is this:

You need a rogue in interupt spec (i.e. a rogue in combat spec with 2 points in throwing specialization). In the 25 man version, it is best to have 2 rogues like this in a group with a shammy that has a tremor totem. Basic strategy is to have the the champions all grouped together (preferably by the wall so they aren't fearing people all over the place) and nuke a healer. Have the rogue (or rogues) spam Fan of Knives as often as they can, and when the healer hits 20%, have them pop Adrenaline Rush and keep up their FoK spam (while auto attacking the healer). The Adrenaline Rush will allow them to spam FoK twice as often, thus interupting any emergency heals the healer might recieve. Rinse and repeat with the remaning healz, then the rest is cake.

Alright, so here's what my 10m ToC on this encounter faced.

What would have been the ideal strategy for this? We tried to burst down the priest first, with practically everyone DPSing him, and we managed to get him down, but we lost a couple of people. Then we tried to burst down the enhancement shaman, but the CC just didn't last on the healers.

I think our dps just totally wasn't there as a total team. So my other question would be, what's a good total dps that we're looking for? Obviously our raid make up was 2 tanks, 5 deeps, and 3 healers...though I went healy and the other tank went Arms.

I will copy paste my shaman comment here so you dont have to look for it in depths of wowhead.

Shaman will use totems. On our try we noticed following totems:
Strength of Earth , Windfury Totem, Tremor Totem, Healing Stream Totem
Didn't notice Earthbind present. Other sources say he uses Grounding totem, so be mindful of this if you are planning on using long cooldown nukes when hes still present.

Shamans use Heroism/Bloodlust that CAN be spellstealed without getting sated/exhausted debuff, or should be dispelled either by massdispel spell or just manually because it will be pretty high spike on incoming damage..ouch

From my experience the encounter can be easily done in 1 or 2 trywith a good set up.
Last time i done it (a pair of days ago) we have found agins of us that champion:

Disc Priest
Holy Paladin
Enhancement Shaman
Rogue
Mage
Boomkin

Our raid was formed by:
1 Rogue that have swich in assasination pvp spec for the fight
2 Elem shammy (me and another 1)
2 Lock
1 Disc Priest
1 Resto Drood
1 Resto shammy
1 Prot Warrior
1 Feral(tank) Drood

We decide to follow that order of kills Disc Priest>Holy Paladin>Rogue>Enhancement Shaman>Boomkin and then mage

Rogue sap and take stunned the paladin, while the 2 lock fearbomb the 2 melee class.
The other shaman quick hex the mage and i pop BL, in the spot of time while the cc was up all the dps (except for the rogue that was ccing the paladin), have burn the priest before blind where of from paladin (if we fail in kill him in this time we have planned to hex the pally to get some more seconds to end the priest).
When priest die, lock fear again the 2 melee class and we start burning down the paladin. at this point fear work around for only 5 sec so other shammy and me was ready to cc the melee to prevent them ripe the healer.
Around 50% the paladin use Divine Shield and priest quick dispell it giving us the time to shot her down and, end the fight easily without any raid member die during it.

P.S.: During the fight while the rogue&shammy was out from cc the 2 tanks quick taunt em giving the times to locks and shammys to re-cc em.

First of all, 10man in regular is so easy that there is no need to have much strategy for it. We are getting blocked at 25 man and in heroic versions despite breezing through the other bosses. This is an incredibly difficult fight, and the comments that resilience is irrelevent here are somewhat inaccurate. Resilience reduction of regular damage is limited to 'player' only (see tooltip) and thus these npcs have NO reduction of white damage from it. However, resilience DOES function against NPCs to reduce crits as well as damage from crits and loss from mana-drains. I have verified this in regular 25 man-note how many crits your tank takes compared to say a pure pve geared healer. It will be 0 while the healers can take up to 40% melee crits though they typically took around 10%. Those crits are what kill people since every melee NPC hits incredibly hard. Spells dont crit for some reason. Thus, a small amount of res. gear might not be a bad idea (400 or so) tho I totally understand why you wouldnt want to gimp raid dps too much. Also, pvp specs/glyphs are very damned helpful (resto druids should be in pvp spec or at least add Barkskin glyph for this fight to pve spec since pvp spec is almost the same healing). I wonder if the frost mage aoe mortal strike might not be a bad idea here, although it would interfere with some cc but would greatly reduce the heals on focus targets. Would somebody post their raid dps against this on a 25man regular kill? The raids I was in were running around 80k until this fight but could only do 59k max due to being cc'd and killed off. My argument is that pvp specs/glyphs and a small amount of gear might actually increase raid dps since your dps is 0 if you are dead. Also, a 20% debuff to the FC healers is like a 20% increase in raid dps, and that is not to be taken lightly when bursting down FC with 2.4 million hitpoints. I hear some groups cc the healers and try to kill a dps rather than a healer right off the bat also. Please post more winning strats on 25man or heroic 10.
