Object which occasionally appears at seemingly random locations around Ashran. Interact with it to get the incredibly powerful Ancient Artifact buff, essentially providing all the benefits of multi-boxing without the need for several very similar names.

When you interact with the object, it disappears and you gain the buff. If you get killed you'll lose the buff, and drop the object. The interaction itself takes several seconds and can be interrupted by attacks, making it tricky to pick up in the middle of a battle - but still so very worth the trouble. Marked on the map with a special treasure chest-style icon.

The duration of the buff is one hour from the artifact's first being picked up from its spawn point.

You will ONLY gain the remainder of that duration if you pick it up from a player.

THE ONLY TIME YOUR BUFF WILL LAST AN HOUR IS IF YOU ARE THE ONE WHO FOUND THE ARTIFACT IN ONE OF ITS SPAWN LOCATIONS.

This thing is a lot of fun, I've enjoyed it on the three or four separate occasions I've had it.

However, it's not much fun when playing against a player who manages to reacquire it everytime, along with every other buff on Ashran for 6-12 hours at a time. Exploiting? Maybe. Perhaps this individual just knows the spawn rotation of the item around the island. This individual also proceeded to fly away, literally, whenever their health got low. Very strange indeed! I wish I could fly away when my health got low, see the thing about Ashran is you can't fly unless you get the druid flight item and even that is extremely limited, or any other small-use flight buff found around the island.

Updated info for current patch:

The Ancient Artifact (AA) can spawn at one of five locations:

Ashmaul Burial Ground
Molten Quarry
Amphitheater of Annihilation
Brute's Rise
Seat of Kor'lok

When searching make sure to go to the back of these locations and not just enter the front, it spawns randomly within a given range at these locations and generally tends to be towards the back.

It is marked by a silver treasure chest on your minimap when you are within range of the AA.

Once picked up by a player the timer starts and the AA will last 30 minutes.

When the ancient artifact carrier has been killed if no one picks up the artifact within a given time frame after the carriers death it will disappear and respawn where it was originally picked up from. (i.e. If the Artifact was found at Molten Quarry and the carrier died and no one picked up the artifact after it disappears it will be at its original spawn location of Molten Quarry.)

Once the artifact has been picked up for the first time the timer will start and won't stop. So even if no one picked up the ancient artifact after a carriers death the timer for the ancient artifact is still going and it will disappear if no one picks it up before the timer runs out.

For the ancient artifact to spawn there needs to be at least 20 players on each side, both Horde and Alliance. If these requirements aren't met the AA won't spawn.

Once the AA has spawned if there are 20 players on each side and then players leave with the player count going below 20 a side the AA will stay where it spawned. However once it disappears after the timer runs out the 20 player a side requirement will need to be met for it to spawn again.

When the AA timer runs out and it disappears if the requirements are met the AA respawns within 30 minutes, give or take 5 minutes. (25-35min respawn range.)

The respawn is random within the time frame to prevent one side from completely dominating the AA as it use to be in previous patches.
