The quest to unlock the seventh tier of your Order Hall traits increases your default roster to 6.

Choosing Roster of Champions increases it further, to 7. The advantages to this are pretty straightforward - champion equipment and innate abilities can make your champions award ridiculous amounts of completion percentages.

If you're thinking about taking the other trait, here's a more detailed explanation of what you'll get out of it:
You can recruit two of your new Troops at once.
They have 2 hearts each.
They cost 40 Resources - cheaper than your 3-heart troops!
They only take 30 min to recruit, the same as most troops in general, but far faster than, say, the monk Celestial.
They've got a 30% boost to mission success and can also counter Minions, Spells, or Hazards at random.
Like the two other standard troop types, champion equipment exists that will offer a boost to success chance for pairing your champions with these troops.

It's a fair enough deal that which option you pick is up to you. Do you want another champion so you can run more missions simultaneously? Or would you prefer the new troops to help you max out success rate and obstacle counters without using so many champions per individual mission? There's no clearly superior choice here - it just boils down to personal preference.

These do not replace any of your other troops. This advancement gives you two new additional troops to use. The plan I have found to work best for this advancement is to recruit two of them and then learn the other tier VII advancement Roster of Champions and keep these Guardians alive with Meryl's Conjured Refreshment which are sometimes created by the champion Meryl Felstorm after missions. Roster of Champions will only cost 5000 order hall resources if you already learned this one. Just make sure not to send the Guardians on missions with only 1 vitality left or on missions where Lethal is not countered.

You are now able to recruit Kirin Tor Guardians, a powerful troop type. Guardians have a random Ability and can counter either Minions, Spells or Hazards, in addition to: Prismatic Armor : Increases success chance of missions by 30%.
