Keep in mind you have to do Flight of the Wintergarde Defender before you can get the quest from the Wanted Poster in the Inn!

He is CCable and therefor soloable but its tricky at best. He uses a ranged fear that also damages and if you allow him to come within melee range a stun that most likely will mean your death.

Solod this as a balance druid by keeping him rooted with 2 DoTs up as roots seems to break extremely easy on him, so avoid using treants or any direct damage spells.

Solo'd as a 75 Prot Pally. I'm a new prot pally so I only had wrath gear - mostly blue Tempered Saronite stuff.

It will take a while, but it's doable pretty easily.

Haven't seen a warlock comment about this yet, so I will.

Solo'd as a fresh level 80 demo lock (I would have tried at an earlier level but I was leveling affliction).

He is very, very, tough. Immune to fear (undead, ugh) so that takes the easy button, and he horrifies you which can cause you to run pretty far away and into other mobs while both interrupting casts and channels (poor health funnel).

I just went for the standard sit and health funnel while felguard takes the beating, except it was made 10x harder because of his fears. I really don't know if my felguard would have survived long enough at a low level, but I was able to heal him enough as long as I didn't get out of range due to the fear.

My main suggestion is, stand close to your felguard and hope your health funnels are enough.

P.S. As a side note I also was getting close to pulling aggro, so I used Soulshatter whenever I could. (once, though if I would have used it earlier I could have used it twice.)

im a lvl 75 blood Dk and it was cake, came out alive with 12k health still and im in quest gear. so it is doable the hardest he hit me for was 3700 and easily healed that thru so he is pretty much cake.i did have frst prec. on for the extra armor and health buff but he isnt hard at all if u know hot work a rotation

Soloable as a level 75 demonology Warlock.

Just send in your felguard and funnel at max range (45y), his fear will not hit you there.

Did it with 2/2 improved health funnel and it was rather close sometimes, I don't think it can be done without. (I did without demonic resilience though, maybe even easier with)

Do NOT try to put any DoTs on him, as he will fear you as soon as you get in range.

He *!@#ed me up hardcore on my level 73 pally.

Tried several approaches that all failed.

Approach 1, turn evil / judgment / exorcism spam.

Results: Fear breaks, Kreug runs up to me as I attempt to recast, stuns me, 3 shots me before I can even break it.

Approach 2, hammer/turn evil/repentance.

Results: Same as before.

Approach 3, bubble/hearthstone/ /dance /bye /lol

Results: Kreug breaks my bubble, stuns me, kills me before I can break it, spits on my corpse, and proceeds to tea bag me.

Indeed he is kiteable BUT...Blizz made it that you can't kite him for long, i tried frost shock-ghost wolf form and after 20 sec or so i left combat and he reseted.Crap Blizz!

The 7th Legion Elites on the steam tanks in the quest Steamtank Surprise will attack him if you drive under him. You can clear the area, kite him around while they shoot him, then jump off and kill him once he's almost dead.

The only problem is that you won't have tagged him until you jump off, so if someone else comes and hits him, you'll have to join their group or start over.

Easily soloable as a ret Paladin in the 70s, as long as you clear the area first and watch your health. (You don't want to get stunned at 30%.) Turn Evil, Holy Wrath, Hammer of Justice and Repentance all work on him, so you can pretty much CC at will when you need time for a heal.

Just soloed as lvl 80 shadow priest in t9 with ony helm. Used my shadowfiend to pull and give me enough time to dot and ve to heal myself. Used one health pot towards the end but it was simple enough. He does silence casters.

It's important to note, and I don't think it's been mentioned, that he doesn't fear, he horrors. It's the same as other horror effects and fear removal won't work.

Solo'd with my lvl 76 Prot Warrior in mostly blue quest/dungeon tanking gear with heirloom shoulders/chest and one trinket. Used a Mighty Strength Elixir and an Elixir of Major Fortitude. 21k Health with Commanding Shout, around 19.3k Armor, 521 Defense (capped vs. lvl 79).

He hit me for typically around 900-1100 on average, hit as hard as 1.3k. I had to burn all my cooldowns as well as used Lifeblood (Max rank), Enraged Regeneration, a healing pot and one heavy frostweave bandage for a couple of ticks while I had him stunned. I had 4k health left when he dropped.

Not an easy fight but doable solo for a Prot Warrior. Would likely be very easy with just 2 (1 heals)

He's definitely not easy to solo @lvl 80 as a frost DK.
I had to use one healing potion and my army of the dead saved me by distracting him and give him a killing blow. I really JUST survived. Be careful.

For those of you who arent 80 and dont have awesome kite abilities, I found a gimmicky way to solo him.

You make sure you are on the quest steam tank surprise In this quest you ride around in a steam tank killing undead with the help of npcs in the back who fire guns at mobs. These gunners WILL shoot Kreug. You cannot stand there and go toe to toe with him but the gunners will NET Kreug from time to time allowing you to kite him. I kited him around the long logs that he pats next to. When he reaches 3k health or less you HOP OUT of the steam engine and finish him off. If you dont land the killing blow yourself you do not get credit.

Make sure you give a wide berth for Kreug because he will try to kill your gunner npcs and they dont respawn.

For those wondering, it is possible to solo this mob as a hunter, but it certainly isn't easy. The tactics are simple but the execution is difficult.

When I did this quest I was level 74, beastmaster spec and using a turtle. I tried at level 73 but never got him below 50% health; you get a new rank of mend pet at 74 and I think it's pretty vital. I also had decent gear for my level (dungeon blues). Having first aid is essential.

I wasn't able to kite this mob; even with concussive shot up and running him through a frost trap, he'll run you down, and it only takes a few solid hits for him to kill you.

You also can't tank and spank him with a pet; he hits for about 2000 and will brutalise your pet when he puts his stun down.

But you can trap him with freezing trap. What I did was to get my turtle to tank him until my pet got low, and then used distracting shot to pull him over a freezing trap. I then used the 20 seconds to bandage up my pet and myself. The fight took about 5 minutes in total.

There are some things to watch out for. Don't let your pet go below about 40% health before trapping Kreug and healing up. When he throws down his 'backbreaker' stun he can knock off that amount of health in mere seconds. If that's combined with him fearing you (something I found to be unavoidable), then there's diddly squat you can do about it, and your pet will most likely die. So play it safe.

When trapping Kreug, his hitbox is tiny, despite his huge size (the hitbox is the same as a normal mob). This makes getting him to hit your trap a wee bit difficult. Take, for example, this scenario: you lay a trap and throw distracting shot just as Kreug fears you. You will wander away from your trap, and Kreug will miss it, turning you into skeleton jelly in very short order. This happened to me a considerable number of times.

Only distracting shot/trap shortly after his fear, so its on cooldown. Don't use bestial wrath for extra damage; you must save it for when breaking his fear is essential (mend pet runs out and you need to renew it, you need to reposition yourself over your trap).

Shell shield (the turtle special) and cower were indispensable for mitigating Kreug's brutal damage. I generally saved these cooldowns until Kreug used his stun or fear (after the stun wears off, popping shell shield or cower pretty much guarantees that your mend pet ability will outheal his damage, which helps to up your pet's health after the pounding he'll take during the stun).

Kreug is also stunnable; use intimidation wisely.

Kreug also casts a buff on himself, it increases his damage dealt by 10% and his attack speed by 30%. You must use tranq shot to get rid of it; if he combines this with his stun then the incoming damage can level your pet from 100% health to 0% in seconds. If he combines this with a stun and a fear, use bestial wrath to break your pet out of the stun and yourself out of the fear, so you can tranq shot his buff.

Don't underestimate the value of just letting Kreug stew in your freezing trap whilst waiting for your cooldowns to ready themselves again; managing your cooldowns is essential to killing this guy.

Anyhow I hope this helps any hunters aspiring to kill this guy. It's a fun, if somewhat frustrating, challenge!

One other thing. Don't use serpent sting, it breaks your traps! Use scorpid sting instead to mitigate some of the incoming damage.

Seems that no one commented about Elemental Shamans soloing it, I will do the honors.

This boss is definitely a hard kill, but with some help from any Medallion will make it an almost certain pass. My average gear level is 232, just mixed stuff mostly from heroic dungeons and Emblem of Triumph stuff.

Put down Stoneskin Totem and Healing Stream Totem, other two are up to you.
The fight basically just goes like:
Flame Shock -> Lava Burst -> Spam Lighting Bolt
Start Lesser healing wave when you hit 50%~60% HP, and Thunderstorm/ Medallion when stunned (Use Thunderstorm first). Use Elemental Mastery if casting heal is getting pushed back too much.
And he should be dead after your second Thunderstorm.

I may not be entirely accurate because i play on a private server... but with 129K HP... he is not impossible to beat using a 76 shadow priest. Note though, he was fearable to me and did not fear me at all. that was no cakewalk though.

My best friends were PW:S, Psychic Scream, Dispersion, and Shadowfiend. All Buffs are a must. Get your psychic scream cooldown going from beginning, shield whenever possible, disperse for mana, and use shadow fiend to distract him and gain large amount of mana. Remember to refresh all DOTs. whenever he is feared, mind flay like crazy. if on low health, heal (you can out heal his dps)

solo'd as 71 BM hunter, using tenacity turtle. used mammoth meal as food buff. it was close. having a ton of hit matters in this.

clear the area and fight him in an area with less mobs to respwn, like the path leading up the small hill behind him. fight will last a couple minutes.

agro was not an issue at all. mostly because he will fear you so often, you will think you are fighting a damn warlock. so you will never really approach your pet in agro. most important to keep healz on pet, and keep agro moves up whenever you are not feared.

fear has a damage component tick to it. had to health pot once, and used dranaei racial to heal up. could have snuck a bandage in there, but didn't need it.

let the pet kill it. keep stings up. use taunt "type" cd's on pet, and BW whenever up. let the pet kill it, with occasional steady shot to keep focus up. used fervor once, when we were low. might have used it twice. fight went that long.

Solo'd as 73 Survival Hunter, although for this tactic it doesn't really matter what spec you are.

Basically, I just dropped down a freezing trap, stood right behind it (few steps so as to not get hit by his melee) and nuked: Steady shot, explosive shot, arcane shot (1-2). Concussive shot as needed. Then when he was just about to get trapped, I stopped my attack. Freezing trap lasts 1 minute, plenty of time to run to the other side, drop down another trap, bandage up and rinse and repeat. All I did was to lead him from trap to trap between two spots where there were only few mobs respawning.

Few additional thoughts:

Don't use serpent sting or any other dots as this will break your trap. I had to remove serpent sting from my bars because I'm so used to it that I always accidentally pressed that button.

Try not to kite him too far from his original position. I was fighting roughly here: (91.3, 53.2) on the edge between the two areas. If I strayed a bit further away, he usually evade-reset back.

I had my pet on passive and had it just to run with me as it will get feared instead of you. If I dismissed the pet, I got feared when I moved out of melee range. Moreover, since this tactic takes some time to kill the mob, his fear will do a lot of damage throughout the fight and you can heal your pet for free (unlike yourself). Second reason is that during the fight mobs will respawn so you can have your pet pick them up and you can finish them off while waiting for the trap cooldown. Also, I used a turtle with its intervene ability, saved my ass couple of times when things just didn't work (see the next paragraph).

As it was already stated, it is very difficult to have him run into the trap. It was so annoying how he sometimes didn't trigger it even though he ran right over it. Therefore, I always waited during the trap cooldown so that I could quickly drop another one should it be needed.

The fight when I got him down took about 10-15 minutes, you usually take him about 5-7% each time. Could be more if you try hard enough, but I was prudent to not to break the trap by accident. Wiped/Feigned death several times before I got it right (and after trying out other tactics). Good luck.

Couldn't Solo him at level 74 as a Feral (Cat) Worgen Druid. His stun makes cat form nearly useless, and I'm definitely not a bear, I just put those talent points into better DPS. Died twice with Cat Form, got him to 60% health before dying both times, died faster in bear form on my last try. I'll try him again after level 75 where I can get more glyphs. Also, I used a health potion both times as a cat, with Survival Instincts and Berserk.

EDIT: Solo'd him when I hit level 75 on this druid. Got Glyph of Lifebloom, which helped a lot. Had to use all my CD's and a Pot, but I did manage it, so it is possible. And that's in Cat Form, so it was a pretty quick fight, it was surviving that was hard.

Did all 3 wanted quests as ret paladin, this and shaman were probably the hardest (shaman has 3 adds with him so its not a fair comparison). Wings+hammers did about half the damage, while zealotry made for easy selfhealing = cake.

Soloed with BM Hunter, lvl 75 and Feral pet. Only questing gear, mostly greens ilvl 146. Had pet lick his wounds on auto, and kept mend pet up. Pet died at about 50k health left of Kreug, so had him back with full health with Heart of the Phoenix and I feigned death. This time with only mend pet and no lick wounds (CD) pet fell again when Kreug was down to 6k health. So i backed, concussive shot and spammed arcane and kill shot. Done. =)

Solo'd with a BM Hunter. Quest gear. I did not use the trap method just cleared the mobs and used my beetle (has a shield like a turtle) Mend pet just stayed ahead of his damage! Kept serpent sting on, occasional arcane shot, and he went down after 5 minutes or so

Solo'd as a 72 prot Pally pretty easily. He's stunnable so HoJ + heal whenever you need to, or just heal through it. Make sure you don't get too low because he stuns very often. Had to use Lay on Hands at the end because he gets kinda crazy with the stuns, but I ended with about 90% mana and 80% hp. Just wear him down, and use Divine Plea whenever it's up to keep your mana.

Just soloed him as a mage.

Setup:
Levl 76
Arcane Specced (I tried this as fire, and I wouldn't recommend it, frost is probably a walk in the park)
1000 Spelldamage, 5% hit, 10% haste, 17% crit

I cleared the area first, just to be sure.
*Note. He'll fear you if you root him in place, i.e. Frost Nova, as he no longer has a target, and you are on his threat list. No worries though, he's CCed.

Used trinket, Lifeblood (herbalism haste boost), and arcane power, Blasted him, which applies Slow, and sent of a Barrage while running away (the Slow component of the Blast has a slight delay, mobs will run at normal speed for lets say 0.2 secs, and in Kreug's case, that's actually a fair distance).
Stopped. kept casting Blast until I had to use Frost Nova and run away.
*Note, if you pull him towards the lumber mill, then move towards the river after the Nova, that'll give you the best use of Blink after the Nova has broken as he's on you: 90 degrees turn, up north along the river.
More Blasting, then, as a Worgen, I used Darkflight, which is just pure awesomeness together with Slow, fired instants at him while running away, stopped for more Blasts.
Another Frost Nova, run away, nuke. Blink again, instants while running off.

Here he was at 50% or so, and I popped mirrors, who did an amazing job at kiting him when feared off (careful not to be too close to the reset border)
At this point, I basically just used a mana gem and all-out nuked with Arcane Blast, he died from that.

Should he not be, frost nova etc again...

Just soloed as a 72 enhance shaman popped earth elemental and wolves waited for them to expire then fire elemental and heroism, boom dead. fear was a ^&*!ty but no pulls until fire elemental got feared, and maelstrom+ghw= saved my ass
