After completing the task for Gai Lan, he will meet you at Sunsong Ranch, where he will spend several minutes spraying weed killer on the westernmost corner of the irrigable land, creating new space for you to plant 4 vegetables.

While he is killing the weeds, you will get a buff that tells you how many minutes are remaining.

Finishing this quest line upgrades your farm and allows you to buy the "Jinyu Princess" Irrigation System from Gina Mudclaw.

The improvements to your farm take 15 minutes. You receive a buff called Growing the Farm that shows how long you have before they will be completed. The buff is not applied until you enter the farm plot phase. During this time Gai Lan sprays the herbicide you just helped him make onto the weeds in your field.

Also note that since this is a buff, you must be logged into the game for 15 minutes before the buff falls off and the change takes effect.

Once the irrigation system is installed, you must leave your farm and return before the irrigation system will appear.

I can't believe how pro-chemicals Blizzard is. Spray, spray, spray. Chemicals. I wonder if this is paid product placement by Montsanto, Bayer, or one of those other environmento-destucto companies. They clearly are trying to brainwash people into thinking that sprayed on weed killer is "good" -- like Round-Up -- which has been known for years to cause birth defects, never mind other illnesses in people.

Not completely sure yet, but you might also need to be 87. My 86 monk hit honored with the double rep buff from the commendation- got it on my main- but the quest still isn't coming up; although there is a GREY exclamation point above Farmer Yoon.

You need to be Honored with the The Tillers and reached Level 90 (Legacy) to accept this quest.
Even though none of the quests leading to ranch expansion require you to be able to fly in Pandaria...

For some reason, my Alliance character did not get this quest even though it's halfway to Revered with the Tillers right now. My Horde character got the quest and new farm plots right after getting honored with the Tillers. What could have happened?

This quest is part of a series of three quests that expand your farm.
Each quest adds 4 more soil patches.

Growing the Farm I: The Weeds (Available when you are honored)
Growing the Farm II: The Broken Wagon (Available when you are revered)
Growing the Farm III: The Mossy Boulder (Available when you are exalted and have collected all the votes)

For those of you wishing to skip the 15 minute period on this quest OR any of the 'Growing the Farm" quests, simply join an arena match and promptly leave. The buff will be cleared and the additional plots of farm will be available!

If you are late (reputation-wise) in starting this quest chain for any reason (for example: you are Revered with The Tillers but still only have 4 plots), the buff for THIS quest stacks with the buff for the NEXT quest as well. I had both Gai Lan and Fish Fellreed working on my farm at one time. I'm assuming this will also extend to the last quest-chain "buff" for growing your farm.

It seems that the "Growing the Farm" quests are bugged. I'm trying Growing the Farm level 2, and Fish Felreed started her 15 minute stuff yesterday. I didn't log out, the timer went down to zero and vanished, but she was still there. When I logged out and back in, it had reset to 15 mins. Same today - she's still there. I put in a ticket, and got a page saying that numerous people have reported an issue at level 1 where Gai Lin doesn't stop after the 15 minutes, and nothing happens. I assume it's the same bug happening to me at level 2. Are they fixing this? Apparently not - the response was that "there's no workaround" for this problem. I was then asked if that was "helpful" or not. Well, duh. No.

Thanks to a comment made by Cruelous it appears these quests are bugged if you are currently in the timeline where there is a N'zoth Assault on the Vale of Eternal Blossoms. Go speak with Zidormi in the Vale to set yourself to Pandaria timeline and wait out the buff, the plot will be expanded.

Speak to Gai Lan at The Heartland in the Valley of the Four Winds.

Description

Hey <name>, I've been thinkin' recently about expanding my farm.

See that plot there that's just covered in weeds? If we can get rid of those weeds, we could use that land for planting.

I heard there's a farmer by the name of Gai Lan who knows a thing or two about weed whackin'.

His farm is just out west. Go talk to him and see if he'd be willing to help us.
