How to trigger an invasion?

Go to Sergeant Crowler if you are Alliance or Sergeant Grimjaw if you are Horde. They sell Missives for a quest to irritate a specific Draenor faction so they can attack you back in a form of Invasion. Once you've completed the Missive quest, return to your Garrison and turn in. After quest completion, go speak to Sergeant Crowler or Sergeant Grimjaw again. They should now have a quest on offer called Garrison Invasion!. Start it and the invasion will start.

At 110+ you should always be able to get Platinum. It's mostly about mobility. There's a score counter so you know where you are. (Don't worry if the timer runs out and you aren't at 1300, after the 7 minute timer ends there are 2 more phases that will award points.) Once you defeat the last boss you will be awarded the bags. Open then and cross fingers for mounts.

Invader's Forgotten Treasure is rewarded for Gold, and Routed Invader's Crate of Spoils for Platinum. Both bags drop from a single invasion if you complete Platinum.
Four mounts possible from these bags, droprate is only 1-3%. You could do 30 invasions and still not have a single mount, but you can also get two mount drops from the same bag.
You can only do ONE invasion/per character/per week. USE ALTS!

Note:
The invasion reward bags have a low chance to drop a banner like the Bloodied Iron Horde Banner which you can use to summon an invasion boss (there's six possible bosses depending on which faction is invading) who also has a 1% chance to drop one of the four mounts.
