The Thistleleaf Bully is an Epic pet encounter found on the southern cliffs of Val'sharah. He's only available to fight when his world quest, Stand Up to Bullies, is available. His moves are Scratch, Body Slam, and Frolic. Low experience output makes this fight suboptimal for leveling pets, so I wouldn't bother. He'll have two wild pets from the zone backing him up.

Pets
The battle pets I used to beat the Thistleleaf Bully were my Sister of Temptation (Shadow Shock/Curse of Doom/Lovestruck), Fel Pup (Diseased Bite/Crouch/Howl) and a Chaos Pup to clean up the backline with Bite. The Sister of Temptation can be swapped for an Unborn Val'kyr if needed (Shadow Shock/Curse of Doom/Unholy Ascenscion) and the Fel Pup could be swapped for a Stitched Pup (Diseased Bite/Howl/Consume Corpse). For the third pet, bring anything you like to clean up the backline- Beast or Magic damage tends to be strong.

Strategy
Start with the Sister of Temptation. Shadow Shock twice, then Curse of Doom, then Lovestruck and switch to the Fel Pup. Apply Howl, then Crouch, then spam Diseased Bite. Use Crouch and Howl as they come off cooldown and fill with Diseased Bite to finish off the Bully. Should your Fel Pup die, bring the Sister of Temptation back and Lovestruck/Shadow Shock to beat him. Clean up the backline with your third pet to finish the fight.

If you're looking for a two put strategy, I used a Grotesque with Shadow Shock, Agony, and Stone Form and a Zandalari Anklerender with Hunting Party, Primal Cry, and Black Claw.

Begin the fight with your leveling pet, then immediately swap to Grotesque. Agony, Shock until Agony wears off, refresh Agony, then Stone Form. Thereafter, Agony to refresh as needed and Shadow Shock until dead. In my worst attempt Thistleleaf Bully seemed to be critting every other round, but Grotesque killed him on the immortal round.

Bring out the Anklerender after Thistleleaf Bully is dead: Black Claw, Primal Cry, Hunting Party. By the end of Hunting Party, the first secondary pet should be dead. Rinse and repeat, though you may have to wait out a few rounds for Hunting Party to come back up if you slaughtered the first pet too quickly.

Stand Up to Bullies is randomly available in Val'Sharah (55.87, 88.73) and only visible if you've unlocked World Quests. Rewards will vary.
- Quick Note: this is NOT a part of Family Familiar.

You will fight the level 25 epic humanoid Thistleleaf Bully (with attacks Scratch, Body Slam, Frolick, passive: Elite), and two cronies (random pets of random quality).

My Team:

Fel Pup (2,1,1)
Teroclaw Hatchling (2,2,2) <- this pet is for the random rest of the team, any favorite will probably work just as well (ex. Emerald Proto-Whelp)
Emerald Proto-Whelp (2,2,2) <- this pet is for the random rest of the team, any favorite will probably work just as well (ex. Anubisath Idol)

vs. Thistleleaf Bully

Diseased Bite until Bully uses Frolick, then
Crouch
Howl (Bully can dodge)
Repeat 1 through 3 until Bully dies

vs. Cronies

Continue with Crouch > Howl > Diseased Bite until Pup dies
Adjust as needed for things like Burrow
Use remaining pets (or your substitutions) as you see fit.
Teroclaw: Nature's Ward (refresh with 1 left) > Dodge > Alpha Strike
EPW: Emerald Presence (refresh with 1 left) > Emerald Dream (<= 50% hp) > Emerald Bite

Then use Lucky Quilen Cub with self heal to finish off the big baddie!

This was difficult until I pulled out my Sister of Temptation. I tried the Creepy Crate and Unborn Val'kyr first but his dodge makes landing a Curse of Doom and Unholy Ascension extremely difficult. Sister had little problem with his dodge because I chose NOT to use Curse of Doom. Shadow Shock, Siphon Life, and Haunting Song did the trick easily. It takes a bit of whittling away at his health but it works. Bring along two utility pets to take care of the backline and you're good to go!

Stand Up to Bullies - World Quest, Defeat Thistleleaf Bully. He is only available to battle when the World Quest is up Stand up to Bullies is up for the daily. I didn't bring a carry pet as you get minimal experience when fighting him.

Battle Pets Used:
Jumping Spider: Strike, Brittle Web & Leach Life (any spider with web and leach should work)
Unborn Val'kyr: Shadow Shock, Curse of Doom & Unholly Acsenion
Zandalari Anklerender: Hunting Party, Primal Cry & Black Claw

Start off with you spider by using Brittle Web, then use Leach Life using both on cool down and using Strike as a filler. You may of may not kill him with your Spider but either way it will be close. If not bring in your Unborn Val'kyr and use Shadow Shock till dead if you killed him with your Spider bring in the Zandalari Anklerender & Primal Cry, Black Claw and Hunting Party to victory!

Since I don't have the mentioned pets on max level (yet), I needed to improvise. Thought I share my setup here for others who have the same problem. Worked like a charm, even if there's some luck needed.

Pet 2 and 3 are just fillers, I didn't even needed them, but as I mentioned before… you need a bit luck.

I used

Renewed Sticky Web and Poison Spit and healed my pet with Poison Spit. Since the Bully has an ability that increases his dodge chance it's a fifty-fifty-chance to succeed. Maybe it will take a few tries to get him down.

For the all dragons fight (this is rather hard by the way as the main pet is humanoid). I used

Bronze Whelpling (2, 1, 1)
Lil'Tarecgosa (2, 1, 1)
Emerald Proto-Whelp (2, 2, 2)

The Bronze I used tail swipe till his Frolic had 1 turn left then did Lift off so it was guaranteed to hit. I then used Early Advantage and tailswiped till the Bronze whelp died. I had a bit of bad RNG with Lil' Tarecgosa because the Bully got a critical hit with his Body Slam. But otherwise I did Arcane Blast till his Frolic wore off then did Arcane Storm, then continued with Arcane blast till the bad luck crit and Lil'Tarecgosa died. However he was at such low health that he killed himself with his Body slam recoil. Then the Proto-whelp dispatched the other two pets easily with the simple Emerald Presence and Emerald Bite combo.

This is one of the most annoying pet battles simply due to the RNG of enemy's Frolicking ability that gives him a 50% chance to dodge your attacks. He will apply it on the 1st round and then every 5 rounds (1, 6, 11, etc.)

I chose not to use undead pets as his Scratch attack is critter-type and strong against the undead. I used Rapana Whelk (2,2,1) and Ruby Droplet (2,2,2), plus a leveling pet of relatively high level (20+) just in case of bad crit RNG or if one of the add-on pets is of green or blue difficulty.

Start out with Rapana Whelk, keep the Shell Shield on, try to use Dive as he has 1 round left on his Frolicking; spam Absorb until the Whelk dies.

Bring out Ruby Droplet, try to time Drain Blood right after his Frolicking expires and apply Bubble while Frolicking is on. It will still be down to RNG, whether your attacks get through his 50% dodge chance as you will have to deal with it 3 out of every 5 rounds.

I found Unborn Val'kyr (x,2,1), Amber Moth (1,1,2), and Axebeak Hatchling (1,2,1) worked easily.

Open with Unborn - Curse of Doom, then Haunt.

Amber Moth - Cocoon Strike, then Moth Dust, then Slicing wind until cd's of other attacks are up. The Bully was dead with about half health left on the moth. Finished up his other 2 pets (common) with moth and Axebeak.

To nearly solo the Bully, I used Anubisath Idol.

Team:
Anubisath Idol (1,1,1)
Onyxian Whelpling (2,2,1)
Emerald Proto Whelp (2,2,2)

Anubisath comes out first for your team.
>Cast Sandstorm
(Bully will cast Frolick)
>Cast Deflect
(Bully will charge)
>Cast Crush until Sandstorm is off CD
(Do not cast Deflect if he has no Frolick buff left, he will cast Frolick if you do that causing you to miss a significant dps chance)
>Cast Deflect ONLY IF he has Frolick up. You want to block his charge.

If you do Anubisath correctly, you should solo the bully or get him down to 200hp. The key here is to deflect his charge which does a lot of damage. You won't block them all, but you will block 50% of them if done right.

If Anubisath dies when Bully is at 200hp, put in the Nexus Whelpling and Tail Sweep til he dies.

The elfin rabbits are a no brainer. Burn them down.

Disclaimer: The Bully is notoriously difficult to hit. I have had to restart the fight due to too many misses. That's the whole point of this fight against the Bully. He's hard to hit. This strategy works but you may have to reset if you miss too many hits.

I used a rare Rapana Whelk. I got him from Legion zones.
I kept Acidic Goo up, then Absorb Absorb Absorb and a Dive or two.
Rapana basically died with the Bully, and I used Stitched Pup to finish up the game (got him from AH).

I didn't need any hard-to-obtain pets to complete this. I did this with 2 easy-to-obtain pets. Might even be able to use this to PL another pet. The bully was destroyed by a snail.

Slightly based on luck due to Frolick, but I managed to solo this with Zandalari Anklebiter.

Black Claw > Hunting Party > Leap for the kill! If the bully didn't die, spam Leap til he does, and continue spamming Leap until you win the entire fight. Ended with ~200HP left on him, and I did manage to hit at least once per Hunting Party for the debuff to be applied (Frolick is a per-hit dodge chance, so it may partially or entirely dodge Hunting Party).

It's the best strat I had for doing the Falcosaur dailies with Pet Battle WQs.

I used a combination of strats listed here to do this for Sharptalon Hatchling "Sharptalon Team Up (3 Pet Battle World Quests). I used Sharptalon (1,1,1) in first, then Zandalari Anklerender (2,1,2), and then Rapana Whelk (2,1,1).

Black Claw missed the first time due to Frolick, but it hit on the second try. I then did Hunting party and then a couple Leaps before my anklerender died. Next I brought in my whelk and tossed acidic goo, absorb, dive, absorb, etc.. After a couple rounds The bully was dead and I was working on backline pets (black rat and a fawn), whelk died and my sharptalon finished up easily on the fawn.

I ended up with the Sharptalon Hatchling having a lil over 1100 health.

For Sharptalon Team Rumble:
Gusting Grimoire
Lesser Voidcaller (P/H breed)
Sharptalon Hatchling
Note: Gusting Grimoire is a TCG pet which many folks may not have. As an alternative, I would recommend using Nightmare Bell for a similar strategy.

Start with the Gusting Grimoire
Curse of Doom - if the 1st cast of this misses, restart the fight; otherwise just recast on CD
Agony - spam this until it hits, then refresh it every time it falls off
Shadow Shock - use as filler until Bully or Grimoire dies

IMPORTANT: Agony is the big winner in this fight - it will continue hitting the Bully even when he is dodging. Make sure you keep it refreshed.
If you're using Nightmare Bell, your 2nd priority cast is Darkflame and Agony becomes your filler.

Swap to Lesser Voidcaller
If Bully is still alive:
Is Curse of Doom pending? Yes - cast Prismatic Barrier to wait it out. No - cast Curse of Doom then Prismatic Barrier. Remember to pass while the barrier is up. If you're having a really bad fight, spam Shadow Shock until Bully is dead.

Use your Lesser Voidcaller on the backup pets until it dies, then bring in Sharptalon Hatchling to finish off anything remaining.

Easy for me when I use this logic for pet selection:

- First pet = anything that can put DoTs or passive damage on the Bully
- Second pet = anything that has undead damage abilities but is not actually undead

The passive damage from the first pet, on top of the heavy damage of the second pet, and the Bully drops fast. The two I use specifically are:

Unborn Val'kyr
Takes high damage from the Bully, so I open with Doom and then use Haunt to get her out and bring my next pet up.

Sister of Temptation
I use Lovestuck when available to waste the time on the Bully's buffs, and refresh Doom where necessary. Otherwise, I attack with Shadow Shock or Agony.

I use any other pet as my third, and all my pets are alive when the Bully goes down.

Here's one that worked for me:

Unborn Valk (2,2,1)
Ghostly Skull (1,1,1)
Anything else I used Emerald Proto-Whelp (2,2,2) for backup

Round 1: Curse of Doom - if he dodges, forfeit before you take damage
Round 2: Haunt - Switch to Ghostly Skull
Round 3: Siphon Life (Doesn't matter if it hits or not, just something to take last round of Frolick)
Round 4: Ghostly Bite
Round 5: Shadow Slash - Thistleleaf Bully dies
Round 6: Use whatever you like to clean up the critters.

You might need to finish him off with your third pet if you're particularly unlucky, but hasn't happened to me on 4 completions with this team.

In my attempt to do this quest, Thistleleaf Bully was healing in every round, perhaps due to random nature of the other two pets present.

After failed attempts based on other comments, I resorted to Fire Beetle (or anything with Apocalypse) + Emperor Crab. Begin with Fire Beetle, put up Apocalypse, and then assuming Thistleleaf Bully didn't dodge it, tank him for 15 rounds using Emperor Crab.

After Thistleleaf Bully died, the other two animals were trivial.

Teroclaw Hatchling (2,2,2) soloed these three. I used Fel Pup (2,1,1) as back up but didn't even pull him out.

Strategy
Round 1: Dodge
Round 2: Nature's Ward
Round 3 & 4: Alpha Strike
Rinse & Repeat until Thistleleaf Bully is dead.

For remaining pets, Dodge on cool down, Nature's Ward when there is 1 left on buff. Bring leveling pet out when last of the cronies comes out. I had a rat as last opponent so I pulled out my leveling pet on stampede. Easy peasy.

Ikky (1-2-2) does very well in this fight. Just use Black Claw followed by Flock. If the bully doesn't luck out with RNG (which happens sometimes), he'll be dead at the end of Flock. If your Ikky dies first, bring out a pet that can finish the fight. I personally use a Teroclaw Hatchling (1-2-2).

For: Sharptalon Team Rumble

I used Twilight Fiendling and Lesser Voidcaller for their humanoid damage. They died but so did the Bully. My Sharptalon Hatchling cleaned house with the regular pets.

This one - what a PINA.

I tried several suggestions here, but had to finally improvise because nothing was working.

My team:
Blighthawk: 1, 2, 2
Chrominius: 1, 2, 2
Biletoad: (doesn't matter, I didn't use it - but if I needed it: 1, 1, 1)

Blighthawk - Cyclone first, Infected Claw until he's coming off Frolic, then Ghostly Bite. Almost solo'd him.
Chrominius: Bite was all it took. After the Bully is dead, I got 2 Fawn. Chromi burned the first one in short order, then i caught the 2nd because it was a rare - why not?

I never used the frog.

The map icon appears off. The NPC is actually located between the saber mobs and the other Thistleleaf mobs. Use /tar Thistleleaf Bully to locate him.

Fastest way I have found was using Stitched Pup to start 1,1,2. Then bring in LiL Bling 2,2,1 to finish off all three.

Stitched Pup start with two diseased bites to waste during his dodge stage. Then used Rabid strike, followed by plagued blood. Keep using diseased bit until Pup dies.

Bring in LiL Bling. Start with Make it rain, then In flation. Used those two until he died then killed the other two just with him.

A Molten Hatchling can solo this fight... alternate webbing and leech life and cauterizing when needed, your constant self heals and reduced damage intake will outlast his constant dodging. This also works well for the Bloodgazer Team Rumble quest.

When you get there if you stand between him and the tree, then any mobs in the area never get close enough to bother you.
When you click him to start the fight, do it while still standing between him and the tree, facing out away from the tree.
He moves out and turns to face you, instead of you moving. Sometimes my pets look so cute standing up on the side of the tree behind me!
When the fight is over you are in the same place you started, between him and the tree.
I clicked my Flight Master's Whistle right there, got picked up, and left.
Not one mob ever bothered me.
Makes this fight a great deal less annoying!

For training my falcosaurs, I opened with the training pet, and then used Ghastly Rat 2,2,2 to take down the bully almost 100%. Maggot 2,2,2 took him out the rest of the way, and the burrow smacked the fawn around nicely. You can either use the maggot or the falcosaur to clean up the rabbit.

My setup:

Unborn Val'kyr - Shadow Shock / Curse of Doom / Unholy Ascension. Others undead will be good ok, I just ilke Unholy Ascension spell.
Any pet with good damage spells
Any pet with good damage spells

Tips:

Thistleleaf Bully starts the fight and can be killed easy by any undead pet. Sacrifice Val'kyr to buff others when ressurection triggered - Unholy Ascension
Just kill left pets. I used Hogs with Consume Corpse.

Ashmaw Cub strategy: alternate Enrage and Hibernate, you can virtually live forever because the Bully never hits hard enough. The other two grey pets are easily dealt with with another beast. Its not the most efficient method but if you don't have an undead pet it does work!

More-or-less RNG-proof 2 pet strategy:

**Any pet with Haunt and the ability to clean up Thistleleaf's backline should work in place of Wicked Soul here; that said, the S/S variant of Wicked Soul ensures that Haunt actually sticks your first try. If you use another Haunt pet, you'll need to restart the pet battle until Haunt sticks. As is the case with most 2 pet strategies, crits can still mess this up, but overall it's worked very well for me.

S/S Wicked Soul ?/?/1- First two move slots are user's choice - pick whichever you feel comfortable cleaning up Thistleleaf's backline with. I went 1/1/1.
Macabre Marionette ?/1/1
Any pet (leveling is fine here, will take no damage unless Thistleleaf's backline comes with an AoE. That said, this pet battle isn't worth a lot of XP.)

1. Haunt - Wicked Soul "dies", Macabre Marionette comes in
2. Death and Decay
3. Dead Man's Party
4. Dead Man's Party continues
5. Dead Man's Party continues - Thistleleaf Bully is probably dead here.

From here, things are sort of dependent on Thistleleaf's backline. The worst combo you can probably end up with for backline pets is probably a rat and a crab, because one is strong against undead and the other is resistant to undead attacks. In general, you should still be able to take out the backline by refreshing Death and Decay initially (if you haven't triggered Undead on Thistleleaf's last turn due to crits) and then using Dead Man's Party during Marionette's Undead round. If you're using a leveling pet, bring it in when Marionette dies and immediately swap it out for Wicked Soul. In general, Agony and Shadow Shock should be enough to clean up the backline pets in conjunction with Death and Decay and an single hit of Dead Man's Party on the first backline pet to come in. The only time I've run into trouble here was when a backline pet was rare, but that's unusual enough that I'm not going to worry about it, and if you're not using a leveling pet, whatever third-slot pet you have will easily be able to take down the rest of the backline's HP.

for the sharptalon hatchling thing needing 2 magic pets plus the hatchling -

main enemy is humanoid , so use pets good v humanoids

i used blood boil and lesser voidcaller (and the hatchling)

have hatchling summoned also all the time (in case necessary)

first go the enemy dodged my first 3 attacks (it dodges 50pc of time!) so i quit and healed and restarted

then use abilities good v humanoids , plus sensible timing for heal abilities

second go i succeeded

good luck - theres a fair amount of random involved in this one!

For Direbeak Team Rumble;

Murkidan (1, 1, 1)
Direbeak Hatchling (1, 2, 1)

Used Fel Immolate first round, spammed Shadow Slash until Murkidan died. Sent in Direbeak and pretty much just spammed Swarm to finish it off and for the backup pets with a Predatory Strike thrown in here and there.

First off I just want to make it clear that even though Wowhead says Thistleleaf Bully is cageable, I can confirm that he is NOT!.

This fight was pretty simple and I get it first try every time, even when taking extra damage to try and cage a backline pet. I used the following pets and rotation below. Keep in mind that I can only be confident in this line-up if both back pets are critters. I have heard that the back pets can alternate and you may want to replace the last two pets accordingly.

My Team:

Weebomination (1/2/2) (Can be purchased from the AH)
Core Hound Pup (2/1/2) (Cannot be purchased from the AH); Can be substituted for Zandalari Anklerender (2/1/2), which can be purchased from the AH. P/P or P/S is preferred.
Chrominius (1/1/1) (Can be purchased from the AH)

Strategy:

Start with Weebomination

Death Grip - This will force Thistleleaf Bully to the back and bring the weakest pet out.
Cleave - Repeat this until Weebomination is dead. This brought Thistleleaf Bully and the other back pet to roughly 55% before dying because Thistleleaf Bully doesnt heal or dodge attacks while in the back.

Next bring in Core Hound Pup - This does depend on RNG, but if it is not in your favor you should still not have a problem, it will just take longer.

Thrash - Repeat this until Thistleleaf Bully uses Frolick and then either use it two more times or pass until Frolick falls off.
Howl
Burrow - This should kill Thistleleaf Bully and if not, just use Thrash until you or Thistleleaf Bully dies.

Last bring in Chrominius

Howl
Ravage - This should kill the last pet standing and if not, just use Bite until the last pet is dead.
