If you, as myself, got unclickable altar after getting scepter - try to abandon quest and start it again.

It's worth noting that if you had already completed another artifact weapon, you don't need to complete the last quest, The Heart of the Dreadscar. You can use the weapon straight away.

To fix the unclickable scepter bug, I hearthed to Dalaran, alt + f4ed out of the game(logging out didn't work) and flew back on the fel bat, I was able to re-fight Allaris which I did so very slowly and the dialog afterwards successfully triggered the second time.

BlizzardCS: If there is a bug that the GMs are unable to provide a workaround for then you'll need to wait for it to be fixed by the QA team

so not the answer we want to hear but it is somewhat helpful that they are now aware of the bug and maybe looking into it, i suggest everyone having this issue to put a ticket in and get it more attention

I managed to get past the unclickable scepter bug. I dunno which part of this is essential but here's what I did:

1. Relogged

2. Had to fight Allaris again

3. Got the unclickable scepter bug again

4. Reloaded UI (/reload)

The scepter was clickable after reload. Hope this works for someone else.

Stucked at claiming scepter after killing Allaris?

Well, I have read all the comments and tried to unstuck. All the exp here:
1. You cant abandon and re-take quest. To have Allaris alive once more, you have to "long-relog" (I'm sure about 5 mins) OR you can go for other quests and then get back from Dalaran Krasus Landing on the bat.
2. First step didn't work for me in Demon spec. I recommend you to spec in Destruction and kill the boss with it. I suspect it makes the bug.

I fixed it before ticket has been solved.

On the Slay Allaris section. Myself and my son tried countless of times. I finally switched him to demonology, longer casts, but sent the "pet" first. It worked and I got his weapon.

Then I had to switch his talents to destructive to grab the weapon.

Allaris sends demons that throw you across the screen. They attack by 2's.

I finally concentrated on Allaris, moved from the demons, only focusing on Allaris. After 2 clicks, I got the weapon.

This quest was harder than the alliance hunters artifact weapon.

My son's toon didn't have any skills so I put an alt in the auction house and bought what I could, potions, etc. My advice: Get your skills, cooking up to par. And get some potions. Eat something that increases your stats before hand. I'll get a screen shot I took of the weapon later.

There's supposed to be a portal at the end? I hearthed him back to Dalaran. I didn't see a portal. The alter won't let me click on it after I grabbed the artifact. It doesn't do anything to destroy the alter.

This, by far was the most frustrating most difficult thing I've done on World of Warcraft. I've played alliance since 2006.

So i have submitted comments to this error on Blizzards forums, and i seemed to receive a lot of hate for complaining about the fact that they have not fixed this issue. I got 10 dislikes (down votes). But not one single reply to tell me that i was wrong or making a hasty judgement.
As others have experienced, there sometimes is a bug when trying to complete the destruction warlock artifact quest chain Ritual Ruination. If you go through the process and get to the point where you select the scepter of sargeras, but then experience not being able to complete the last section (ruin the ritual) by clicking the alter, the quest will not finish. It's hung logic. The way it is written you won't be able to finish it because it is saying you have the scepter already and left the area. QA from Blizzard has to go in and do one of three things - 1. wipe the quest completely, causing you to start over from the beginning. 2. hard delete the scepter from your warlock's inventory cache on their backup of your account so that the quest will recognize you did not pick it up yet, therefore allowing you to pick it up again, thereby triggering the rest of the event as intended. 3. hard complete that section of the quest for you on their server and porting you directly to the class order hall in order to complete the end of the artifact chain.
A few other key notes. Users have tried everything within their reach to fix this - i.e. waiting for the NPC to respawn and kill him again, dying to see if that resets it, closing the game and coming back on, closing the game and deleting the WTF, CACHE, and INTERFACE files from the WoW folder to reset these from the main server, trying to abandon the quest - which will not work based on the fact that you have the scepter in hand. So it is clear that Blizzard's QA must get involved in order to fix this one issue. I am sure they are trying to fix many other issues out there, but for those of us that wish to play as destruction, you are out of luck. If you didn't pick another artifact, choosing to start with destruction, you can't get into the class order hall, you can't open your artifact to display the talent tree, you can't pick a starting zone, and you can't begin your warlock specific quest chains.
I'd say this is a pretty significant problem that is not being addressed.

So, Gul'dan identified the dude with the book as the Commander back on Draenor, the one that messed with him repeatedly, including busting HFC and killing his ex-employer Archimonde.

Yet he trusted him with THE most powerful stick in the entire universe, one that, if used properly, might just finish his assignment then and there, believing that this Commander, this General/Warlord, this leader of Council of the Black Harvest, was there only because he has defected.

And he got betrayed. Backstabbed.

The idiocy is...wow...just...wow.

I had the same problem as many with the scepter not being clickable the first time so I hearthed back to Dalaran and took the Fel Bat back to the area and started the fight again but this time I killed the add first before Altaris. Doing it in that order triggered dialogue after which I was able to click the scepter and complete the quest. I have no clue why this worked for me but maybe it will work for others.

I had this issue, just created a ticket (any) that allowed me to have live chat. They helped me through live chat and had me log out of my warlock real quick, then they logged in and fixed the issue for me. Took minutes!

They were aware it was a bug and told me it was hopefully going to fixed very soon. Otherwise, live chat them for now and let them fix it for you. They're real good about it!

I didn't have any issues with the getting the scepter itself, but I used my Dalaran hearthstone to leave the Tomb of Sargeras (I got out of there before I could see that Calydus was opening a portal for me). To turn in the quest you have to go down into the Dalaran Underbelly, to the same spot where Legion warlock quests started. Once you get to Calydus the quest will complete and you can turn it in.

READ IF YOU HAVE THE CANNOT PICKUP SCEPTER BUG

Hey everyone,

So I experienced this 'bug' as well and so I did some further testing multiple times.

My results:
Can be completed in ANY spec
Can be completed with ANY weapon equipped, including other artifacts.

All you need to do is kill him and then walk forward towards where gul'dan goes through the portal and you will see an image of gul'dan appear on an altar to your left immediately ebfore the ramp. He will then have a small dialogue and tell you to pick up the scepter.

That's it, no tricks or bugs or GM tickets needed.

I had this bug out on me in demo specc, i went afflic and it worked... my theory is i was wielding a staff to get a staff?

Another odd bug, I was able to get the scepter just fine. I had run past the portal to zone out, and ran back didn't see if Calydus was there. When I clicked the box, it landed me in the sewers but not Calydus to finish the quest. The marker said it was right where I was. Zoning into the class hall - he was available to turn in to near the Artifact Alter.

Finally, you are about to finish this quest chain. Take a felbat at Krasus landing and fly to Gul'dan. I know, that's strange, seems Gul'dan knows nothing about you and ready to to communicate with you (instead of insta killing you), so do your business, kill Allaris Nassarin, ruin the ritual and steal Scepter of Sargeras.

1. Ritual Ruination
• Accept the quest, Ritual Ruination, from Calydus at coords 74.0, 42.6 (Krasus' Landing in Dalaran).
• Click on the Fel Bat, next to Calydus to take it down to the Tomb of Sargeras at the Broken Shore.
• After landing, travel to 60, 25.
• After the dialogue, Gul'dan, will depart through the portal, to Argus.
• Fight Allaris Narassin for control of the Scepter of Sargeras.
• After defeating Allaris Narassin, and listening to the Image of Gul'dan through the Legion Communicator, take the Scepter of Sargeras at 60.1, 25.6
• Click the Legion Altar to sabotage the ritual.
• Proceed southwest to coords 59.0, 26.8 and click on the Demonic Portal.
• Once your have arrived on the other side, turn in the quest to Calydus.

Seems bugged again in 7.2 if you use your Dalaran hearthstone. Calydus is nowhere to be found -- he's not on the map in the Dalaran Underbelly at the spot indicated; and while he's on Krasus Landing, he completely ignores you.

Basically I took the scepter and I had just go back to the Dalaran and finish the quest but I didn't know that NPC makes a portal to Dalaran so I used my Dalaran Hearthstone and I cant find the NPC and I cant complete my quest.......

I was so dumb ...

any help guys?

For those of you that cannot click the Legion Altar to ruin the ritual, as long as you have the weapon from the previous phase, camp out for 10 minutes. When you return, you'll notice they're not standing in the same position casting. You've been reset to the previous portion of the quest. Kill him, again, and go through the portal to the next phase. You, probably, won't be able to click on the altar--again. Don't worry... port back to Dalaran and go to Dreadscar Rift, your class hall. Up by the Felblood Altar, where you rank-up your weapon, you'll find Calydus with a completion question mark over his head or, at least, I did! I hope you have the same luck.

★ Remember, Calydus is a follower. If you don't see him in Dalaran - you've likely sent him out on a mission. You'll need to wait for that mission to finish, complete it and then just make sure NOT to send him out on another one, return to Dalaran and he should be there waiting for you :)

I am posting this to let others know that the "un-clickable scepter" bug still exists even in 2018...

Yesterday I finally got my main Destruction Warlock to 98 and got to this quest and low and behold, I was stuck for an hour trying everything you all posted to fix it. I chose not to mess with the game files, but after trying everything else to no avail, I simply logged out in the quest zone and restarted my computer and upon logging back in it all worked out fine.

I hope that this helps anybody moving forward.

BTW, I signed up with wowhead just to post this helpful thread update for people. GL HF!

For the part "Take the Scepter of Sargeras" and "Ruin the Ritual," the only thing that worked for me was leaving the zone and flying back with the bat from Dalaran in Destruction spec, the NPC's respawned and I had to fight Allaris again, and when the image of Gul'dan finished its dialogue, the scepter was clickable, along with the altar after that. So just make sure you start in the right spec, I was affliction at first, which I'm sure now that was the problem (I tried all the possible "fixes" from the forums and comments here and none worked until coming back as Destro). Hope this helps. Happy gaming!

So much misinformation on this quest.

1. It's still bugged in 2020.
2. Anything other people tried and worked was just random (apparently from the multiple comments).
3. I tried everything. Log off, reload ui, could not abandon quest, delete cache, etc, etc, etc.
4. Nothing worked.
5. Basically what i did was just phase out and back in over and over.
6. It looks like it is a phasing problem (pure speculation since often i could see for a moment people outside of the quest phase)
7. Phasing out and in can unblock the quest (or not).
8. I was blocked at 2 steps first time it was stuck at "take the bat to broken shore" and the 2nd time to "take the scepter" and both time i unblocked it by phasing out and back in.
9. First time i ran out of the phase and it phased me back in automatically and it unblocked.
10. 2nd time i ported back to dalaran and took the bat again and it unblocked.
11. Both time i had to phase out and in multiple times like at least 10 times or so.
12. I assume logging off etc also phase you out and back in?
13. Either way it looks like just try, try and try (anything) that make you leave the area and come back in and it will eventually work i guess?
14. But be ready to do that multiple times until it actually work.

So frustrating i mean not correcting bugs in your game after so many years is dumb great job Blizzard.

If it's bugged for you just /reload and mount up, run back pass the ritual entrance guards untill you reach the edge of the hill. The quest will be completed. It has a phasing issue and by reloading you will be phased into the scenario. Going inside and then back to the edge will allow you to complete the first part of arrival and the whole thing.

It seems there is a bug for this quest currently, when you approach the area to talk to gul'dan you get summoned above the cave and get disconnected in chain. I tried multiple times and I get all the time the same result. I had to teleport my character safely to orgrimmar through blizzard teleporting service. But now I have to wait their 8 hour cooldown :/

k so basically decided to follow Gul'dan while he was speaking
got ported back and couldn't hear the rest of the speech but guess what? neither could alleris
now, he is staying green and repeatedly asking who should take the scepter..

and i so don't want to pm support again so soon after an item literally vanished from my equip head slot.. (also resetting its domination shard upgrades!)
cuz i got a response with no uwus scary
and the gm did absolutely no investigation (good riddance the items reappeared on the next day..)

and no, hard relog (30 min afk) work not ;)
