Great idea...get it wrong & you die! Utter crap; what does this make you do? Go online to see what the order is, so it hardly makes working it out for yourself worthwhile.

Purple, White, Fire, Shadow is the order. Frankly Blizz should refund all G this pile of bollocks costs! At least the graveyard is by the tower, so everything's alright then!

Been sat outside Xylem's Tower watching all these plebeians die over and over trying to get into the tower. Makes me feel all the more accomplished that I actually managed to work it out the first time just from the info the other mages gave to me. Also it's extremely entertaining. *Munches on Popcorn*

For those who want to see the clues

Apprentice Joanna says: The barrier shielding the tower can only be opened by activating the gems in the correct order. The order is only known to Xylem and his inner circle of apprentices. No others have yet been able to decipher the code, and mistakes are met with deadly consequences.

Quest Objectives:
Speak with Xylem's apprentices (nearby on the lawn) to decipher the code to open the barrier to his tower.

Gems as they appear in doorway
red(fire)	blue-violet(arcane)
dark gray-purple(shadow)	white(frost)

NPC's (Alliance)	Clues
Ku'ash	Just make sure ya don't touch any of da crystals twice. Bad things happen to dose dat do.
Neal Padley	I think it has something to do with the order of the magic Xylem teaches his apprentices. I only started learning Arcane so I'm not sure what the rest of the order would be.
Kyla Royce	One of the inner circle apprentices told me, "One must Master the traditional schools before delving into the realm of shadow".
Elaine Clayton	I saw one of the apprentices enter once, though all I was able to see was that he activated the white gem before the red.
Girrum Highdust	One of the other apprentices was pretty sure the order was right to left. I think his name was...Heinrich?
If you follow the clue that says work from right to left, you have 2 starting choices: blue-violet (arcane) or white. Activate all gems. Heinrich made the wrong choice.
Smoldering Boots(in front of entrance)	Edit: Beware! Deadly False Clue in Heinrich's boots! If you ignored this clue, you lived. If you acted on it, you died. These boots look like they were struck with an incredible amount of arcane energy. The name "Heinrich" is inscribed in each boot. That clue is a misstatement (cough).The clue should read: These boots look like they were struck with an incredible amount of ~~arcane~~ frost energy.

The Incantation: Arcane (Blue-Violet), White, Red, Shadow (Dark Gray-Purple)

A STUPID STUPID QUEST CHAIN. I got this at L110, but with a character with only 2128 health (Arms Warrior). First, the apprentice's comments had no relevance to solving the sequence. SO.... KEPT DYING, until my armour went yellow, would you believe? The solution came from WOWHEAD ..... but I am a twit and had already tried to figure it out on my own ! IDIOT ! Once inside, a ridiculous level of damage .... armour went RED ..... 200 Gold repairs ! NOW, for the worst bit ....... back at Deliverance Point (Broken Shores), Xylem is almost impregnable, as I had found with an earlier toon. So ...... WHY would you even spend "hours" flying to Azshara just to be met with this insult. (AND YES ..... Malene's post above IS correct, for the order for hitting the crystals). Unless you got high iLevel gear, and great health, fergit it !

Note that if you die, and ghost inside, you can still solve the puzzle from the inside. And, as has been stated already, you WILL have to solve the puzzle. If you're inside, it's top left, bottom left, top right, bottom right. If you're outside, it's the reverse of this. There's no need to talk to the NPCs.

Also, none of them have pockets you can pick. Hopefully, this saves you some time.

What a stupid flaming quest - and whats with the very long res time when you die - takes the fun out of playing. The clues are rubbish and mean nothing - I tried using them and using the suggestions in these comments and not working - it will take all bloody day to work this out. Blizzard quit with the crappy quests please
