If you're having a problem with this after defeating the imps and the quest does not complete. Simply just abandon and leave the area, like out of that floor and return then do it again.

Well, at least it worked for me.

This quest doesn't work if you kill the imps too fast. Using Brutal Slash caused the quest to bug out for me roughly 6 times. After taking my time (and a lot more damage) on the imps, without BS, it completed instantly.

I don't know how you guys are getting it done, as a fire mage they over run me within seconds. I can't cast my spells fast enough to keep them down. Why would blizzard make it solo, without your guardian to help you and flood the room with damn imps. hard is one thing, but at least make it possible for people NOT geared out the hind end.

What is really the damn point to this quest, to see how much we can die? I died at least 5 times, the warlock performing the ritual never died, the imps never attacked him even when I was dead, ran back to just out side the room to rez, eat to bring my health back up and step in for him to "start the ritual" and imps come pouring though the portals again. However after the 5th (or so) death, the quest completed. WTF?

OK, as zenithstorm mentioned, the books tell you the names of the runes to use.Dregla is often used in rituals that draw upon large amounts of fel energy, but needs to be balance by arcane and death magics. Talar is used to empower arcane rituals. Taam can be employed in many rituals requiring powerful death magics. So, Dregla, for the power and Talar and Taam to balance it.

I died many times trying to complete this first part. So for anyone who may need help it would seem that if you vanish or class equivalent or just run out of the room you can heal/eat and get back in and the quest won't have reset to the beginning. The first part just involves killing the demons. The second part involves reading the scattered books and activating 3 runes on the floor, the 3 stated above. If like me you had already activated them in desperation, don't worry, you can reactivate them. Annoyingly the ? above the warlock's head remains grey; you have to speak to him to get him to continue.
The next steps I was dreading after that initial nightmare but they were straightforward for me although as a rogue I could just follow the felhunter in stealth, he doesn't aggro mobs.

If you are having trouble with this imps try pulling them around them around the corner outside the door.

Okay, this is another gawd awful designed quest. The first phase is killing imps. WAY more will spawn than you can handle. Get near the door, kill one and get next to the doorway to the room with the portal out. When your health gets too low portal out. Heal yourself and portal back in. Go back to Ritssyn and he'll restart the portals. More imps come. Rinse and repeat. After 4 or 5 times the quest will complete.

The next phase as others have said you need to click once on the runes on the floor near Ritssyn. Click on the runes for Dregla, Talar and Taam. If you've clicked any incorrect runes, just click them again. The runes change a bit when they're active. Then you need to tell Ritssyn that you're ready. Any wrong runes selected is instan-death.

This quest bugged out for me. Right after I accepted the quest, a dungeon que popped. When I came back, there were no imps to kill. If this happens to you, simply abandon the quest and start it again.

As a Fire Mage, I found fighting inside the room to be futile. If I stayed inside the room, I always died as there were far too many mobs damaging me. Without extraordinary crowd control or AOE damage (Flamestrike isn't enough), I just could not stay ahead of them.

So I stopped fighting on their terms and fought on mine. As soon as the first imps spawned, I damaged one and ran out of the room, turning the corner. A couple of them poked their heads out of the doorway and I picked them off one by one while taking much less damage than in the room. Returned to the doorway, pulled another, repeated until done. They're leashed to the room and will not follow very far. If you need to, Blink up the ramp to the portal that would return you to the above level, but I never needed to go that far.

Ritssyn will be just fine. After you kill enough imps, the quest completes.

This quest is part of the Council of Six chain for fire mage or maybe any mage. After going up to the Purple room with the 6, they send you down to find Levia who has taken up with Agatha

If you're having trouble with the imps, don't bother trying to kill them at all. Just lure them out of the little room and kite them around the stairwell until Ritssyn is ready for them.

As a druid, i had trouble until...i walk in, the quest starts, imps spawn, i run back out, shadowmeld, cat form, then stealth, then walk back into the room, staying in stealth and waited for the quest to complete. super easy!

You have to defend Ritssyn Flamescowl while he opening the portal.
Theere are imps incoming, first there's one portal, then two, etc.
Imps doesnt hit hard, but they just annoying.

I used the "Die and wait for the quest to complete" method. This quest is well beyond ridiculous. I tried everything I could think of from blowing cooldowns to constant healing. Even tried bear form. No dice. Died many times. These empowerment quests that toss multiple hard hitting mobs at us when we have no outside healing and/or poor gear don't make a lick of sense.

It is like they sat around and pondered 'how rough can we make this compared to other artifact quests' Definitely should just kill them over and over and if they do survive the runes should kill them. Edit: I finally did it at blood DK for my Unholy weapon.. zomg! personal accomplishment lol

The simplest way to do this - just die. Don't rez until the quest completes. Takes about 45 seconds or so and saves you the cuss and chuck. You're welcome.

Well maybe this changed, because I was no longer able to die, wait it out and just let the quest complete, then rez. It never completed (I went and washed the dishes and got a drink and still nothing.)
What eventually did work was just kiting the imps around the staircase and killing a few when they were single or just 2.

Easiest way (as feral at least) to do this without a cheat is to simply back into the edge of the doorway just out into the hall. It creates a bottleneck and you can swipe and thrash them down until Rityssin finishes. This way you're not in the room with them all spread out gunning you down.

Yet another class-specific quest; if you're an Afflock or a Pallie, just kill them all in 30 seconds and use their corpses for wall decorations. If you're a Mage, you'll just barely be able to kill them all with 24 buffs on. Rogues have a different problem - the imps can see through stealth and you can't kill eight or ten of them in a group, no matter what your gear level is and you can't pull some of the group farther than another; in other words, you can't separate the group of X. They've figured that out. What finally worked for this Outlaw was to trigger the imps, stealth and run as far away as possible (but not too far....I know it's a little tricky). Do not die, because that resets the quest. The imps will run out of the room after you but if you stay far enough away, they won't start shooting at you. Wait three or so minutes and the quest will complete. I don't know if this is the new kludge for rogues but it worked at least once. Good luck.

now (December 2017) this quest is old. Not sure if the imp damage was nerfed or the imps only tickled me because I was specced into guardian druid. Apparently I killed the imps too fast and the quest didn't complete when all imps were gone and their portals despawned.
I found this page and tried to find a solution. Found nothing. I decided to abandon the quest and do it again. Just moonfired all imps, left the room so they stack at the doorway then autohit them to death. Quest completed.
It's interesting how Blizzard still doesn't fix broken quests.

At first I did it by killing all imps as fast as possible, and I got stuck.
Go outside the room, always keep one alive until no more imps appear, and it should do the job

Bugged as of 9.1.5 - the imps spawn at level 60. I did this on level 53 druid and got pwned by level 60 imps.

Ok, so it's been a while since I did this quest, but I don't remember the Imps being "Boss" (there's a skull in the ring where a level would be shown) level mobs. Has something changed in the last few years?

I just used the tactic and worked like a charm. Just don't leave area completely.

Hi! I am from the future! Are you having trouble with this?

Did the two succubi in the Inn kill you, like really fast? You didn't think much of it, but didn't recall that part of a years-old quest to be that hard? Then you noticed - or not - that the imps in this quest also kill you really fast? Turns out they are skull-level mobs to my newly level 50 death knight. A guy who should pretty much waltz through Legion content, since he just levelled into Shadowlands (i.e., hitting 50, thanks level-squeeze) and out of Battle for Azeroth (which is now 45-50). And pretty much was, up until this quest.

If you are currently in the Shadowlands (level 50-60 as of this writing) expac - as my main(s) is/are - I think I know what the problem is. I just wanted to clear some Legion and BfA content on a lower level character to avoid future weirdness should I return. Also, I needed the purple Dalaran hearthstone, which is incredibly useful even in later content. However, this quest was literally killing me.

Turns out, this is Legion timewalking week! Evidently phased content - not all of it, mind you - gets scaled up to Shadowlands-level. I was fine doing the introductory phased quests, and pretty much destroyed everything in the intro to The Broken Shore.

But I would guess that these imps don't know they are not dungeon or raid content. The solution, as some people have pointed out, is to just stay dead until they go away. But the long term workaround is to wait until Legion timewalking is over. Well, no, the real solution would be to have Blizzard fix this encounter, but c'est la vie.

Since this is bugged, here are the steps to make this quick and (somewhat) painless:
1. Start the quest and let the imps kill you
2. Do not release
3. When quest finally finishes, rez, run back and turn it in
4. Activate the runes for him (Dregla, Talar, and Taam, as mentioned in zenithstorms comment)

You'll still be stuck on the next part (Following the Scent). You need to follow Fhambar to find Levia but he goes through a cave full of more skull imps. If you die in there he resets.

February 4 2022 - I just tried this encounter for the 3rd time and again died in seconds. Level 50 fury warrior with all blues. The imps have (again?) boss skull level HP and health. If I actually did any damage, it was so small it could not be seen on the health bars. I tried the suggestion below about just dont res and wait. This resulted in a 5 min timer forcibly resing me regardless, and then the ghost mount I was on is also bugged out, and can not be controlled, turned, or landed. So its impossible to use the teleport to get back to the encounter. Exit game and re entry got me dumped off the mount and able to use the teleport. I then stood and waited as ghost for a further 10 minutes. The quest did not time out. I resd and tried the run away trick. The damn imps followed me out of the building and killed me by fire ball just as i got to the teleport. This is now clearly more bugged than the when the entries below were written. It looks like *!@#$%^&*s have solved the wrong problem as usual, by making the quest stage last for eternity until you kill the imps. Instead of just giving the imps a realistic HP and health level. Why do we pay these fools? My only solution is to abandon quest and wait for some kind of realistic fix. Good luck guys. M

2022 Less than level 60? Run in, start quest, die, read up on the next quests, by the time you are done, the quest is complete. They are all level 60 FWIW.
Just want to confirm the runes are Dregla, Talar, and Taam in any order (make sure you have 3 active, a purple ball, a green flame and a pink ball and only those 3). then talk to Rissole dude.

Level 60, Shadowlands - the imps do 0 damage to me so the 'dying' option was not an option for me.

After rage quitting Saturday morning because of this stupid quest, I logged back in Sunday and forgot I didn't complete it.

So I abandoned it, and picked it back up. I followed him into the room and let the imps spawn, I ran through the imps to make them target me. After about a minute all the imps seem to be spawned and targeting me, I killed them. This worked and the first part of the quest was able to be turned in.

Then he gives you the quest to activate the runes (activate green and pink beside each other on the one side, and then the middle blue one on the other side). Then talk to him and tell him you've activated the runes.

This all worked for me and I was able to complete the quest.
