This weekly challenge will be offered to you after you have completed The Deadmines Strike Back which is the quest for your first time through The Deadmines pet battle dungeon added in Patch 7.2.5.

To get these quests you need to have unlocked them by completing the Wailing Caverns Pet Battle Dungeon quest Wailing Critters and the breadcrumb quest Deadmines, Part Three?.

If you have completed The Deadmines Strike Back you should have learnt Manapoof Link: Westfall - so to get to The Deadmines quickly speak to Manapoof in Breanni's shop in "new" Dalaran (Legion version) to get a teleport there.

My TL;DR shopping list of pets for this dungeon, followed by a quick walkthrough:

Phoenix Hatchling
Spring Rabbit (or any rabbit with dodge/flurry/burrow)
Amber Moth x2 (or any generic moths)
Alpine Foxling x2 (or any beasts with Howl/Bite)
Emperor Crab
Iron Starlette
Unborn Val'kyr
Zandalari Kneebiter (or any Zandalari pet with Black Claw/Hunting Party)
Darkmoon Tonk
Hyjal Wisp
Nexus Whelpling x2
Emerald Proto Whelp

INTRO

The Deadmines pet battle dungeon is similar to the Wailing Caverns event, except this one has nine fights instead of 11, and the backline pets here are parrots, rats and crabs. This means you'll want to fill out a lot of teams with flying, beast and magic pets. (I just used a variety of moths and foxes.)

Interestingly, the lead pets for these nine battles are eight different pet types, which gives this dungeon a little more variety, and should take less time (nice, so weekly clears don't feel tedious).

STAGE 1

FOE REAPER 50 (mechanical) - no backline pets
- This is a boss, who resists 50% of all damage and can't be one-shot for more than 35%, but I was able to solo this using a Phoenix Hatchling. Foe Reaper does backline damage, so you might want to use two throwaway pets as backups. A Pandaren Water Spirit is also a good choice here.

STAGE 2

UNFORTUNATE DEFIAS (undead) + 2 backline pets
- You can use just about any rabbit with dodge, flurry and burrow for this unfortunate skull -- I used a Spring Rabbit and mopped up with an Amber Moth.

ANGRY GEODE (elemental) + 2 backline pets
- An Emperor Crab with Whirlpool will have little trouble with the lead pet.

STAGE 3

MINING MONKEY (beast) + 2 backline pets
- An Iron Starlette can one-shot this simian with the familiar Wind-up/Supercharge/Wind-up combo, and should be able to take out the second pet as well. I used a moth to clean up the leftovers.

STAGE 4

"CAPTAIN" KLUTZ (humanoid) - no backline pets
- This one can be a little tricky -- he stuns on the opening move, and also heals. However, an Unborn Val'kyr with Curse of Doom and Unholy Ascension and any Zandalari pet with Black Claw and Hunting Party can dispose of him quickly.

STAGE 5

KLUTZ'S BATTLE RAT (critter) + 2 backline pets
- This is a pretty simple fight -- I used the same Zandalari Kneebiter from the previous fight to kill the opening rat and most moth/beast combos should take care of the rest.

KLUTZ'S BATTLE MONKEY (beast) + 2 backline pets
- A Darkmoon Tonk took the monkey out without any trouble, and Minefield will give you a headstart on the backline pets.

KLUTZ'S BATTLE BIRD (flying) + 2 backline pets
- This bird is elite and blocks half your damage, but it's possible to solo this entire fight with a Hyjal Wisp, using its dodge and heal abilities.

FINAL STAGE

COOKIE'S LEFTOVERS (magic) -- no backline pets
- This final boss does an opening stun and can hit pretty hard, but I was able to beat it pretty easily with 2x Nexus Whelpling, using Arcane Storm and Mana Surge. Tail Sweep also hits pretty hard once Mana Surge is on cooldown, and I also kept an Emerald Proto-Whelp as my third pet just as backup.

There are obviously more strategies and pets that can be used for these fights -- hope this is useful to anyone who might be stuck!

After successfully beating Klutz's Battle Bird, I got a Flawless Flying Battle Stone.

I don't recall ever getting a stone of any kind from the Wailing Caverns battles, so this is a nice little perk!

Just to put it out there if people are struggling with beating the challenge because they lack the best pets or bad run on crits or whatever, you are able to enter a battle and use abilities like Stinker's "Bleat" or other heals to get the pets you need back up to health, then forfeit the match without losing 10% health.

Deadmines, Battle pet dungeon how to:

Stage 1:
1st Encounter Boss Foe Reaper 50 with 50% damage reduction and a maximum of 35% of its total HP taken per hit. With no backline pets.
Type: Mechanical. Soloable by an Elemental pet like Fel Flame using Burn, Immolate, Conflagrate.
Notes: This boss is using Flux, so use one more elemental pet as backup and one pet that you are not gonna use further in this dungeon.

Stage 2:
2nd Encounter Unfortunate Defias with 50% damage reduction and 2 backline pets of common quality from Aquatic, Flying or Critter family.
Type: Undead. Soloable by a Rabbit or any other pet from its family using Flurry, Dodge, Burrow.
Notes: Nothing special about this pet to mention.

3rd Encounter Angry Geode with 50% damage reduction and 2 backline pets of common quality from Aquatic, Flying or Critter family.
Type: Elemental. Soloable by an Aquatic pet like Emperor Crab using Surge, Healing Wave, Shell Shield.
Notes: This pet has Stoneskin & Crystal Prison abilities and this fight may take a bit more time to win.

Stage 3:
4th Encounter Mining Monkey with 50% damage reduction and 2 backline pets of common quality from Aquatic, Flying or Critter family.
Type: Beast. Soloable by Iron Starlette, with the usual combo.
Notes: Nothing special about this pet to mention.

Stage 4:
5th Encounter Boss "Captain" Klutz with 50% damage reduction and a maximum of 35% of its total HP taken per hit. With no backline pets.
Type: Humanoid. For this fight you will need 2 pets. You can use the combo of Unborn Val'kyr with Haunt & Zandalari Kneebiter with Black Claw
& Hunting Party to win, or you can try any other combo like Unholy Ascension & Macabre Marionette's Dead Man's Party, which is not that strong.
Notes: This boss is using Clobber to stun your pet and Giant's Blood to heal, making this fight the hardest one in the scenario.

Stage 5:
6th Encounter Klutz's Battle Rat with 50% damage reduction and 2 backline pets of common quality from Aquatic, Flying or Critter family.
Type: Critter. Soloable by Xu-Fu, Cub of Xuen with Moonfire & Spirit Claws, or Prowl & Bite.
Notes: Beware of its ability Launch Rocket witch is a strong attack vs Beasts. it may not end up well for your pet. Killing this pet as soon as possible will ensure the win.

7th Encounter Klutz's Battle Monkey with 50% damage reduction and 2 backline pets of common quality from Aquatic, Flying or Critter family.
Type: Beast. Soloable by a lot of Mechanical pets like Lifelike Mechanical Frostboar, Clockwork Gnome, Tiny Harvester, Runeforged Servitor and many others.
Notes: Nothing special about this pet to mention.

8th Encounter Klutz's Battle Bird with 50% damage reduction and 2 backline pets of common quality from Aquatic, Flying or Critter family.
Type: Flying. Soloable by Nexus Whelpling with Arcane Storm & Mana Surge combo.
Notes: Nothing special about this pet to mention.

Final Stage:
9th Encounter Boss Cookie's Leftovers with 50% damage reduction and a maximum of 35% of its total HP taken per hit. With no backline pets.
Type: Magic: Soloable by a Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling with Breath, Thunderbolt and Decoy. Thunderbolt does the most damage on him, so use it on cooldown.
Notes: This boss is using Food Coma to sleep your pet and Feed to heal itself. Avoid sleep by starting the fight with Decoy.

must be said - its way too easy and basically boring.

im not that a pro in pet battles, so i expected some kind of fun challenge here...

but every first pet in my list that countered the boss's class (in the most basic way) simply destroyed it.

yes, one boss needed a combo (to be down in 5 seconds) but im sure it could also be killed in 100 other ways.

no strategies or thinking needed in any way.

its disappointing esp because i know they know how to do it right. yeh, rewards are better, but i'd rather go to The Celestial Tournament a hundred times before i come to this one again :/

hope for others to feel otherwise, but thats my honest opinion.

You can clear both pet dungeons (Wailling cavern and the Deadmines) with these 3 pets level 25 and a few bandages :

Zandalari Anklerender
Zandalari Kneebiter
Chrominius

In every fight :

1) Engage with Zandalari Anklerender, open with Primal Cry, then Black Claw and use Hunting Party.

2) If your pet die, use Zandalari Kneebiter as 2nd pet. Use Black Claw then use Primal Cry.

3) If both previous pet died use Chrominius and finish the fight with Bite twice.

First day it opened. I beat it 2 times with this team. Without heal. (some pets are just back up and are suggestions, soloed and duoed all fights.
Will update after i get some more experience on it.
16 Pets, Back ups can be substituted for pretty much anything, chosen purely on weaknesses of boss. Same for the empty slots.

Quick list of pets for this challenge:

1- Foe Reaper 50

Any elemental pet will do a good job. Fel Flame can be easily acquired and will do the job.

2- Unfortunate Defias

any rabbit will solo this undead pet. time your dodges and burrows around his self-stun ability. If he stuns himself, youu have a free round to attack him.

3- Angry Geode

I used a Eternal Strider because of the group heals. I suppose a lot of aquatic pets will do the job.

4- Mining Monkey

Whip out your mechanicals. They're all good. I like Cogblade Raptor and they are easy to get.

5- "Captain" Klutz

This is the only difficult one. I used a Scourged Whelpling because it has undead attacks and more importantly Call Darkness which will halve his self-heals. Use Plagued Blood and then spam Tail Sweep and you might solo him with this easily acquired pet.

6- Klutz's Battle Rat

Use a humanoid with beast attacks, like Flayer Youngling or Kun-Lai Runt and you'll do fine.

7- Klutz's Battle Monkey

Any mechanical pet will do.

8- Klutz's Battle Bird

A Nexus Whelpling will solo this team with Arcane Storm then Mana Surge

9- Cookie's Leftovers

a Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling will solo this boss using Decoy then Thunderbolt on cooldown, then spamming Breath

Overall, I thought this was easier than the wailing caverns pet dungeon.

my look on pet battle deadmines challenge:
Foe Reaper- shard of cyrukh soloes: flame jet>darkflame>burn
Skull- any rabbit soloes dodge>stampede>flurry
geode- any snail soloes, aicid goo into dive
mining monkey- iron starlette: windup>powerball>supercharge>windup
captain- unborne valkyr: curse of doom>haunt swap to zandalari mother^&*!er: black claw+hunting party
battle rat- literally anything with beast attack really, i used xufu spam spirit claws
battle monkey- literally anything with mechanical attack, i used ancient nest guardian: extra plating+ spam batter
battle bird- Nexus Whelpling: Arcane storm>mana surge
cookie: your valkyr and zandalari mother%^&*er should be next to full hp so use them again in the same manner

anytime a one or two pet are mentioned, use a filler pet that u can swap in and deal with backline pets, strategies here are for bosses and elites
good backline-dealing pets are: emerald proto-whelp(2/2/2), anubisath idol(1/1/1), emperor crab(1/1/1), teroclaw hatchling(2/2/2), singing sunflower(2/1/2) because they almost lose no np
overall easy - enjoy your own mining monkey

Went with Zandalari Anklerender, Iron Starlette and Chrominus all the way to the end then switched out Chrominus for Emerald Proto-Whelp for final boss, had no trouble at all.

After killing the last boss, just "Leave Instance Group," and you will end up next to Marcus "Bagman" Brown to turn in the quest. No need to retrace your steps back through the entire dungeon or jump off the ship toward the cave or anything else.

I don't have Nexus whelplings nor MPD, but was able to do Cookie's leftovers fairly easily with Darkmoon Zeppelin and a Dust Bunny. Simply time yours Decoy or Dodge to his stun and heal combo. It's a little slow but works.

Hi guys! I have prepared a guide where you will only need 7 pets to battle and 1 to heal your team.

You will need:

Fledgling Nether Ray (or any similar and any breed): 1/2 - 2 - 1/2
Mechanical Axebeak (any breed): 1 - 2 - 1
Lil' Bling: 2 - 2 - 1
Rabbit (any breed and bunny too): 2 - 2 - 2
Any Dragonkin with magic and dragonkin skills.
Rapana Whelk (any breed or similar pet): 1 - 1 - 1
Zandalari Kneebiter (Zandalari Anklerender and P/P): 2 - 2 - 1

Heal Pet

I recommend Frostwolf Ghostpup with Haunting Song.
Why him? Because if he die you only need to give up and start again. He never die.

U can use too Sister of Temptation with the same abilite or pets with Bleat.

How we will do it? We'll have the priority pets (to kill the Elite fast) and the secondary.

Our secondary pets are:

Fledgling Nether Ray: because u can vary between Bite or Arcane Blast, Lash or Shadow Shock.
Mechanical Axebeak: he will save your live with Decoy, Alpha Strike and Haywire help a lot with damage against surge of the aquatic pet enemy.
Nexus Whelpling: i really like this one like a reserve. He will kill everyone with Arcane Storm and Mana Surge.

The Fight

Foe Reaper 50

Lil' Bling: Extra Plating - Inflation - Make it Rain. Repeat it.
If our Bling get low life change to Fledgling Nether Ray and use Lash.

Heal your team on Angry Geode.

Unfortunate Defias

Rabbit: Dodge - Stampede - Flurry until he died.
Continue with the rabbit until you die and switch to other secondary pet.

Heal your team on Angry Geode.

Angry Geode

Rapana Whelk: Acidic Goo - Dive - Ooze Touch until Angry Geode died.

Continue with the Whelk until he is dead and switch to other secondary pet.

Heal your team on Monkey.

Mining Monkey

Lil' Bling: Make it Rain - Extra Plating - Inflation - Make it Rain.
Don't let your Bling die! Change to another secondary pet and finish the battle.

Heal your team on "Captain" Klutz.

"Captain" Klutz

Mechanical Axebeak: Decoy.

Change to

Zandalari Kneebiter: Black Claw - Hunting Party - Leap.
If your Zandalari died, put Mechanical Axebeak again and finish Klutz.

Heal your team on Klutz's Battle Rat.

Lil' Bling: Make it Rain - Extra Plating - Inflation - Make it Rain.
Repeat it if your Bing have more than half of life. If not change to another secondary pet.

I'm going out on a limb by making this claim but here it goes anyhow! Currently, it's quite possible that the best choice - for those who base best choices upon efficiency and effectiveness - is as follows:

Stage One, Foe Reaper 50, use an Amethyst and/or a Crimson Shale Hatchling . Use Stone Rush and Burn, in that order, on repeat. Welcome to Sixth-round Victory-town!

Stage Two, on Unfortunate Defias, Trashy is a far better choice than any rabbit could be due to it being far stronger. Not to mention that a Family Reunion followed by a Dumpster Dive is entirely a knock-out combination here -- if need be, quick clean up of any remaining trash can be accomplished with a Nexus Whelpling and it's tried & true Arcane Storm to Mana Surge. Against Angry Geode, a rotation with Tiny Red Carp of Whirlpool, Cleansing Rain, Pass, Water Jet, Water Jet, Water Jet will quickly lay waste here -- clean up with Nexus Whelpling Arcane Storm to Mana Surge or have a Fledgling Warden Owl or a Sharptalon Hatchling (the key is a higher-strength Battle Pet with the Savage Talon ability) in your line up so that you can switch them in and more quickly deal with Aquatic trash in case that's what spawns for your encounter.

Stage Three, the ridiculous Mining Monkey. It's best to Netherspace Infernal , Explode and Crimson Spore , Explode. Done. Clean up with, you guessed it, Nexus Whelpling Arcane Storm to Mana Surge (or your favorite go-to choice.)

Stage Four, I agree with the strategy that other's have posted here regarding "Captain" Klutz. Unborn Val'kyr . Pass, Curse, Haunt, then Zandalari Kneebiter , Black Claw to Hunting Party for the win.

Stage Five, Klutz's Battle Rat has been well acknowledged and the Zandalari Kneebiter Black Claw to Hunting Party will promptly suffice however, I suggest cleaning up with Nexus Whelpling Arcane Storm to Mana Surge. Klutz's Battle Monkey is another easy target for Explode. Considering that Explode is based upon the maximum health of the Battle Pet which casts it, a couple possible higher-health options at this point could be Pocket Cannon and Pet Bombling . As always, clean up is made easy with a Nexus Whelpling and Arcane Storm to Mana Surge. I wonder how Klutz's Battle Bird will be won - no, just kidding, I don't - it's gonna be with the Nexus Whelping , you silly! Only this time there should be time enough to incorporate some Tail Sweeps between the Arcane Storm to Mana Surge cooldowns.

(If you only had one of these Nexus Whelplings in your current Battle Pet collection but have any inclination to battle pets via Battle Pet Pet Battles, I highly recommend getting at least a second of these Nexus Whelplings. If you had two or three upon entering Pet Battle Challenge: Deadmines, despite how much it seemed like they've been used up to this point, they should have plenty of health left even if your Nexus Whelpling inventory was poorly rotated throughout the clean-up roles in previous fights.)

Stage Six, defeating Cookie's Leftovers in or around ten rounds by using Searing Scorchling (Pass, Scorched Earth, Flame Breath, Conflagrate, then Flame Breath) and Spawn of Onyxia (Pass, Scorched Earth, Tail Sweep, then Tail Sweep) may be comparable to the more straightforward Mechanical Pandaren Hatchling method, use discretion.

As I remember a time when I had but a few Battle Pets and would look on Internet for strategies to consider for various Battle Pet Pet Battles, it was my aim here to offer some more Battle Pet options for people to choose from for running this quest! My other goal was to lend some of my expertise in getting redundant tasks done hastily to the people which are more interested in that aspect than they are in how to get through an encounter by soloing it regardless of how many rounds or how long that method may entail.

Stage 2: Unfortunate Defias + parrot + crab

Acidic goo < swarm killed defies
switch to oozling
Corrosion < Expunge < Ooze touch rotation dealt easily with other 2 pets

Stage 3: Angry Geode + Crab + Parrot

Dancing Water Skimmer 1 2 2
Disgusting oozling (still plenty of life left) 111
Had chicken as back up

Pump < Water Jet < Pump < Cleansing rain < pump < Water jet < pump
Repeated combo for other 2 pets

Stage 4: Mining Monkey + rat + crab

Curious Wolver pup as back up

Build turret < Metal fist use build turret on cd, and fill with metal fist

These pet combinations and strategies worked easily throughout the scenario for me. I have used some rarer pets to keep it interesting, but there are tons of close substitutes that are easy to get.

If you use the Rematch addon, here is the rematch code for all the teams with battle notes that I compiled from Xu-Fu's Pet Battle Strategies. Thank you very much!

If you don't use Rematch, you should, it makes running this (and other pet battles) so much easier. And Xu-Fu's is full of great strategies.

To use this code, select all the text below, hit Ctrl+C to copy, then create a new tab in your pet journal by clicking on the + sign to the right of the pet journal (Call it whatever you want but I call it "Dead Mines"), and then right click the tab and select the "Import Teams" option. You can then hit Ctrl+V to paste the code in there.

From then on, whenever you select one of the battle pets in the instance a little Rematch window will come-up asking if you want to load the team for that fight, load it and also be sure to click on the little note button so you can see the notes on what to do for each turn. If you start the fight and forgot to open the notes, don't worry, you can open them again by opening your pet journal and clicking on the note icon.

I have compiled my own Rematch string that does not include any pets from Deluxe Edition versions of the game, extremely rare pets, or ones from the WoW TCG. Most of these pets are extremely easy to acquire from world events, capture in the wild, or obtain from the Raiding With Leashes raid boss drops. My string is complete with notes to make this a very easy scenario! Enjoy.

For anyone here trying to figure out how to get to DEADMINES!

First, you have to beat Wailing Caverns.
Then, you go to the managerie in New Dalaran and you'll see a quest to go find the dude outside of the Deamines in Westfall.

Just as a reminder, everyone.. If you bring you level 23 pets in here, they will go to full health when they level up, and it doesn't count as a heal or a revival.

You can reach all 3 pet battle dungeons (Gnomeregan, Deadmines, Wailing Caverns) by talking to Radek Fuselock's pet companion (Manaproof) at (56,31) in Dazar'Alor. It's the pet of the NPC where you get the initial Gnomeregan pet dungeon from.

I suppose there's a same equivalent method at the alliance side.

Here's my suggestion for a team consisting only of buyable pets. I've focused on just taking cheep pets. For some fights you will need back-up pets to deal with the pets in the back row but any level 25 pet will work for that.

I included the breed I used but in most if not all fights in won't matter.

1. Blazehound P/B (2,2,1) EU Median Price 250g. This is the only fight I suggest not using back up pets, just stick two level 1 pets in the back and let them die.
2. Harmonious Porcupette H/S (1,1,1) EU Median Price 1500g. Frankly you are better off just going out and taming a nice frog/toad.
3. Grasping Manifestation S/S (1,2,1) EU Median Price 800g. Same thing here, a lot better to just go out and tame a nice snail.
4. Iron Starlette P/P (1,1,1) EU Median Price 900g.
5. Tranquil Mechanical Yeti H/P (1,1,2) EU Median Price 5000g and Zandalari Anklerender P/P (2,X,2) EU Median Price 250g.
6. Chrominius H/H (1,X,1) EU Median Price 150g.
7. Lil' Bling S/S (2,1,1) EU Median Price 150g.
8. Emmigosa P/S (2,1,1) EU Median Price 150g. Kind of an unnecessary pet in my book, you're better of just taming an Emerald Proto Drake, but it works just fine.
9. Mechanical Pandaren Dragonling S/S (1,2,2) EU Median Price 3500g.

Total: 10 pets. I got by using just two Eldritch Manafiend as back up pets.

Is anyone else having this horrendously frustrating problem where, at a random point in the dungeon, you'll get the pop-up message that tells you you're not in the instance group, and you get teleported to the graveyard after the countdown? It's happened to me twice. Once when confronting the Shadowy Figure, and again after defeating the Unfortunate Defias. It's incredibly frustrating!

Here is my list for rematch - All strats are given credit - Mostly from wowhead and xufu. Deadmines can be a little RNG based on back pets. So if a pet battle does not have a strong counter, then forfeit and change your backpets. Flying / Beast are usually what you will need.

If you need a pet multiple times in this dungeon, just log onto an alt and use Battle Pet Bandage to heal/rez needed pet, then log back on and continue your dungeon.

After killing the last boss, just "Leave Instance Group," and you will end up next to Marcus "Bagman" Brown to turn in the quest. No need to retrace your steps back through the entire dungeon or jump off the ship toward the cave or anything else.
