If You can't pickup Valentine's Log inside the crypt, just wait until it's re-spawn.

If you decide to drop the quest because you can't pick up the journal - DO NOT do it while still standing inside the crypt - the gate will close and you'll have to heart/whistle out of there.

Not sure what the rep requirement for this is. Got it just before making honored with the honorbound which is kind of odd.

Also GG Nathanos. Being surprised that there is no body in a crypt that you can clearly see from the outside only holds a book.

After you kill the Echo of Valentine, stay inside / close to the crypt. This will ensure that you hear all the dialogue. The last step to pick up Valentine's Log only becomes available after all the dialogue is heard. The last line is from Nathanos Blightcaller: "So all we need is something to trace back to him, then." After this line, the log inside the crypt is able to be picked up.

You don't have to actually be inside the crypt. It's very small and as a Tauren no way I fit in there I had to stand just outside the door. All you need to do after killing 2 waves and then the ghost of Valentine is wait for the dialogue to finish. Once it does and the crypt is closed you can easily click on the log standing at the door to the crypt and pick it up. You just can't do it till the dialogue is finished.

It was patched again, it seems. If you can't loot the book, talk to Nathanos and he'll prompt the NPC to start talking again.

While doing this quest I got a bug: after killing the required NPC I got to a point where nothing was happening, I hadn't completed the task for the quest, and the minimap was still showing a circle around the nearby area without me being able to do anything in that circle. Also, clicking on Nathanos did not give me any options to do anything. I came to learn that what's supposed to happen is that a tome is supposed to become lootable inside the building, and that due to a bug sometimes it doesn't become lootable. Logging out and back in helped fix this in my case - however, after doing so the tome did not become lootable straight away. Rather, I had to click Nathanos again and then click on the speech bubble that now appeared in the dialogue-- then a conversation started between the two undead which led to the tome being lootable. I was then able to complete the quest. Note that apparently in order for you to be able to pick up the tome you need to be close to the two undead NPCs so that you can hear their entire conversation.

Note: as a number of others have said on this page, if you decide to drop the quest and then pick it back up, don't do so while inside the small building-- because then you'll get trapped inside and will have to port/whistle out.

Second note: also as some others have pointed out, if you have a tauren or other tall character, you will probably not fit inside the building - but the tome should still be lootable if you stand just outside the entrance.

kind of disappointed with this quest. I was expecting another "base" like the previous one. But I guess this is more of a "storyline" quest and further bases/fp's are gotten through the follower missions.

Name of the quest is a reference to the game ''What remains of Edith Finch'', released in 2017 and winner of the Best narrative for a game of the Game Awards of that same year.

The problem appears to be that when multiple players are doing the quest at the same time, the quest only completes for the first one.

If you're working on Ready for War, then next chain after this quest starts with Tracking Tidesages, which you can pick up from Nathanos Blightcaller on the Banshee's Wail in Zuldazar.

(If your reputation with Honorbound is 3000 honored or more, you will be automatically given the breadcrumb Operation: Water Wise to lead you there, but it's no longer mandatory so the rep grind is not necessary.)
