Not sure what this is... but I kept casting it at Blackheart the Inciter today. Every time he'd do Incite Chaos I'd cast it then interrupt.

Its for the new Refer-a-Friend promotion Blizzard has instituted. Now when you sign a friend up to the game, you receive the ability to be, in a matter of speaking, linked to that friend so you can summon them to you once an hour.

Could be useful if you and your friend plan to quest together regularly, can speed of the process of joining in one place. Do not know if you are limited to being linked to just one friend, I would assume yes, but not sure if its tied to a particular character or the account, and again, I would presume the link would be limited to just one toon on each account.

This spell can be used by any player linked to another account via the Recruit-A-Friend program to summon any character on the the linked account. This spell is extremely handy when summoning low level players to instances or across continents. It can be used while inside instances. Linked characters can be summoned via a special button next to their name in the Friend List or by right clicking the target's player frame and selecting 'Summon Friend.' You must be partied with the linked player in order to summon.

my friend who is lv 80 is in northrend and i am lv 45 in the hinterlands and he recruit a friend-ed me. He can summon me to him, but it wont let me summon me to him, why is this, anyone know?

May i ask if only 1 that refered you can summon you but you cant' summon him ?

It works both ways for me and my friend, he's the "veteran" account and I'm the recruited. We can summon back and forth, each with our own cooldown. It seems to be broken now that we're both 53 I can't summon him, says Invalid Target. We didn't use it much after we hit the mid 20's so I can't say there isn't a level cap. Granted levels are permanent, granted to a Veteran toon at least one level below yours, so at 50 any toon at 49 or lower can have levels given to them. Keeps them balanced if you go grinding without them, and end up 5 levels higher when they log on.

You can't summon yourself anywhere, it has to be done by the veteran account to you, or you to the veteran account, you can't just pick somebody from /who and go to them.

Smitts, you can't summon yourself to him, you can summon him TO you, or he can summon you TO him, you can't summon yourself to him. It pulls whoever you are summoning to the caster of the summon, it will not port the caster TO anyone, you have to have the caster be where you want your summoned to be. Think of it as a mobile summoning stone, you can't port the stone anywhere but you can summon people to it. The stone would be the person casting summon.

You can NOT be summoned to anyplace your account isn't able to go, so if you have just classic wow, outlands and northrend are off limits, therefore cannot be summoned to, if you have TBC but not WotLK, northrend is off limits, but you can be summoned anywhere in outlands. The link is for 90 days, after that summons, grant a level and 3x XP are gone forever until a new refer a friend link is made. The first refer a friend account info given is classic wow only, and caps at lvl 20 unless a key is purchased. After that, you get free run as classic wow until 60, where TBC needs to be purchased, then WotLK, as you are now a "normal" account.

Trial accounts also get bumped in the queue in favor of paid accounts, you can't use chat channels, trade or join guilds, or whisper anyone who did not whisper you first, or have you on their friends list. Going from trial to paid account status takes around 24-72 hours, but while in the period you can go past lvl 20, but the other restrictions are in place.

Edit, seems refer-a-friend ends at either LVL 60 or when TBC becomes active on the recruited account, not sure which yet.

Anyone know if the cooldown for this will be lowered to 30 min to match the hearthstone CD in 3.1? It would only make sense if it were, right? I always hit summon friend right after I hearth...

Just curious... why didn't the CD of this get lowered to 30 min in 3.1 along with the hearth CD? It seems pointless to me that this should be an hour while hearths are now 30 -- I almost always used it along with my hearth. Lame!

Can anybody confirm if you can summon a friend into Acherus: the Ebon Hold? I mean the one floating in Eastern Plaguelands, not the instanced version you start in. I ask because it is visible to Classic WoW players, and we can even see and target the NPCs there, including the flight path; we simply cannot reach there. Since it's inside a zone we can access I figure maybe Acherus isn't subject to the same restrictions as other areas?

You have one summon from any character to any of theirs - I was able to log my 80, summon my mate to Org (summoning to Northrend or Outland requires upgraded accounts respectively), log a level 1, summon him back, log another and summon him again. Each summon has its own cooldown.

It appears you can't summon people once they're over level 60.

DrCheis, it is indeed not possible to summon at all inside Acherus, when attempting the spell you are given the message "Cannot use that here". Sad.

Interestingly, this spell benefits from haste (at least, talents/spells). On my 59 disc priest with Borrowed Time, Power Infusion and Enlightenment, I managed to get the cast time down to 5.9 seconds.

You can summon above lvl 60, I did it with my friend just now.
As for granting levels with the "Recruit a Friend" -- You can level with your friend, log in an alt (I believe within 10 levels) and grant the alt the levels you just worked on while leveling the mains.

The ability to be summoned ceases at level 80, characters of this level or above may still summon their friends as long as the summoning target is level 79 or lower.

With the Shadowlands level squish, summoning was restricted to level 49 and lower.
The 50% Bonus Experience was also disabled as the overall leveling process in SL was much faster.

After the Dragonflight Patch 10.0.7 and the introduction of the new R-A-F Program, summoning has now been updated to work on characters up to level 69.

Also, with Patch 10.1.0 and the possibility of creating Cross-Faction Guilds, most Cross-faction and Cross-realm restrictions have been removed !

You can now summon players from the opposite faction, even from another realm, straight into your capital city if you want to!
