The hard mode of the General Vezax encounter requires you to complete it without anyone gaining any mana from Saronite Vapors. WoWWiki says that the aura effects passive abilities (Spirit, I believe replenishment, Illumination, Master of Elements, etc) and not active abilities (Evocation, Mana Potions, I would assume Lifetap/Dark Pact). You get one mana bar + your cooldowns + a mana potion. Additionally, casters do extra DPS (50%) at a reduced cost (-30%) when standing in the shadow residue from one of his abilities, Shadow Crash. This also reduces healing done by 50%, so it is not an effective for healers (however, absorption shields may be unaffected by the reduced healing, so having a holy pally and a discipline priest hop in to shield the tanks could be a useful gain.)

I haven't done this fight yet, but from the description it seems like the aura only allows mana regeneration for the 4 non-casters who use mana. Hunters, enhancement shamans, ret pallies, prot pallies. This makes sense because those classes would be royally screwed (sit-this-one-out screwed) if they couldn't regenerate mana. I assume "partially active" means that the abilities only affect yourself, and not your other raid members, because if they allowed mana regen for the raid, stacking these classes would make the fight too easy. We'll see, though.

This affects life tap, evocation, mana potions and pretty much EVERYTHING not listed in the description.

Partially active in the sense of Aspect of the Viper means that -- when in that aspect -- you will only gain mana from ranged and melee attacks you make (the active component), not from its passive component (4% of maximum mana every 3 sec).

Survival hunters may want to know that indeed Thrill of the Hunt will give you mana currently in the Vezax encounter. Invigoration of the BM tree may work as well.

Natural regen seems to be specifically worded, and likely would not include refund talents (like thrill of the hunt).

The aura includes some refund talents, like Illumination.

Dose anyone know if Revitalize still works in this fight. The way i read it should still be active but was wondering if anyone who had done the fight could confirm this.

Just a note to Ret Paladins:

You get a special debuff that prevents you from healing, if you know Judgements of the Wise. No cheesing this.

This is just.... overpowered, its almost impossible to mana-classes to do anything other than sit and look, when their mana runs out. They should make a patch where the normal mana regeneration still occurs. Also non-mana DPSes (rouges, death knights, druids in cat form) will also have a hard time doing good damage and the tanks will get stripped of some of the small amount of damage they do.

I don't think it needs to be nerfed, but I must admit, it is EXTREMELY difficult to heal through as a Holy Priest. With so many talents, and gear choices made based on Regen with free casts and Spirit based regen... Having all my spirit used for nothing makes this fight a hard one.

Worked:
Rapture
Judgment of the wise
Seal of Blood/Martyr
Lifebloom returns
Aspect of the viper
Hymn of Hope
Water Shield
Improve Stormstrike

Not working:
Replenishment
Innervate
Mana Gems
Shadow Fiend
Mana Tide

Seems anything talent related that is independent from spirit regen will still work.

So I was thinking about going back to go get a rusted proto-drake now that I'm 85.

I was wondering, however, if this affects meditation, or if it's easy enough that it doesn't even matter anymore?
