This will be awesome for melee classes in particular. In the early levels you'll have a ranged pull to use, runaway mobs can be killed, fleeing players in PvP... But of course, it's great for any class!

i got 3 questions (and i know this is noobish and lazy srry) 1 how much damage does this do for like a lvl 1 warrior in starting gear? 2 do we start out with this or do i have to do a quest to get it? and what is the damage based on?

Going by that formula my 80 Warlock (unbuffed) would do roughly 31,800 dmg every 2 minutes. Thats assuming they are using the normal operand rules thus making the formula (1+(.25*AP*.429*SpellPowerFire)+(Level*2)+(Int*.50193))

Using my locks stats would make it:
(1+(.25*110*.429*2631)+(80*2)+(1212*.50193)
(1+31039.22+160+608.34)
31,808.56

31.8k damage? Being able to 1-shot-kill anyone in a batleground every 2 minutes sounds a little OP to me.

I think you are multiplying your AP and SP together instead of adding them (almost all abilities that use both AP and SP add them together instead of multiplying them together). With your stats and WotLK mechanics, the rockets would do:

1 + (0.25 x 110) + (0.429 x 2631) + (80 x 2) + (1212 x 0.50193) = ~1925 fire damage

Greshkharm posted that rocket barrage does between 1650 - 2000 damage at level 80, and this calculation is a lot more in-line with that estimate.

I was wondering that exact same thing. If it shares a CD with the engi gloves it isn't all that fantastic, and honestly for optimal PvP racials I'd rather roll an orc, but if it doesn't it's just EPIC and I WANT A GOBLIN SHAMAN ENGINEER! =D

So I just checked it out on the beta, and at level 1 this deals about 30 damage (+/- 1 or 2). A non-crit Lightning Bolt deals about 20, as a comparison.

Also, this thing's animation is pretty unique. It's a pretty big rocket, and it flies sort of like Shadow Crash, from the Faceless Ones in Wrath. I don't think players have ever had a lobbed attack before, so I like it.

Well it's stronger than Fire Blast, Shadowflame & Flame Shock, the fire instants of each respective class. Of course this is considering the spells as untalented, which makes me wonder if talents, specialization and/or mastery will affect this racial.

It shares a cooldown with the rocket belt racial, I doubt it would be macro'd to all spells. I mean, it could, but it would be bad. Would feel awful to need your rocket belt to save your life and instead you blew it for a measly 2k damage.

I think he means for raids and/or grinding. Times where you are unlikely to need the jump, in which case using the free damage every time it's available is quite reasonable.

Of course if you're grinding on a heavy pvp zone like Tanaris or Stranglethorn (before cataclysm, who knows which will be the gank capitals now); or in a boss fight where you need to move quickly because of a debuff, etc. Saving the jump would be the smart thing to do.

Is this affected by armor? It seems to do a little more than half of what the tooltip indicates.

My tootip currently says 9454 damage, yet it only deals an average of 5500. This even applies to mobs of a much lower level.

It seems that Goblin has the most epic racial skills so far.
Appears to be handy in most situations since it deals fine damage without the need of resources like bombs.

Fire this baby off while duelling on the zeppelin to Thunder Bluff and watch it follow you the whole way until the zep reaches the city. Its apparantley slower than the zep :D

'Bout time's all I can say. Maybe more ppl will roll (shadow, obviously, it isn't a healers job to cause damage)priest cuz of this... It don't use up mana, and is instant, so sounds good to me. Not that I've ever played a spriest.

So I found this out on my Shadow priest this weekend: you can use Rocket Barrage while using Dispersion. I don't know if this is a bug or intended. At 85 my priest's RB hits for 4000-6000 damage. Have fun!

This ability seems to get increasingly worse throughout leveling.

For example, at levels 1-~20, it can be a very good spell that does a lot of damage.

Later on, however, the damage seems to not scale as well.

It seems that a goblin shaman in ghost wolf form can use rocket barrage or rocket jump without leaving ghost wolf form.

That's kinda fun and stuff but anyone would prior Rocket Jump over this on PvP at higher lvls... The damage is also too low to be any help with dps unless you don't have absolutely no other skill to use.

Seems to be the slowest projectile in the game. Is it even affected by haste?

It looks like it's possible to outrun the projectile on a 100% speed ground mount. I followed an enemy player who managed to mount up a couple of seconds before the rocket I fired reached them. They traveled almost non-stop in a straight line for about two minutes, and the rocket eventually disappeared without doing any damage.

I don't know where I got it from but I have a macro that combines both the Rocket Belt and Rocket Jump abilities all in one button.

/cast Rocket Barrage; Rocket Jump

If you are targeting an enemy and hit the button you'll fire your rockets at them. If you don't have a target selected you'll instead rocket jump forwards. Make sure to hit space and jump in the air first for extra distance!

This racial by itself isn't too bad, but you can only use your belt rockets every 1.5 minutes, so using this means no rocket jump. It's a nice lore racial to make sure every single goblin has an explosive, but It is mostly for flavor, and even with the recent change so rocket barrage scales with more than level, it's still taking a global cooldown which makes it still very situational.
