So then... They're doing away with a Mote/Primal system and going strictly with Motes in Cataclysm, so it seems.

I like it. It simplifies the elemental side of crafting materials, without actually doing away with anything. Since they stack to 200, you'll be able to carry the same amount of mote-level elementals that you would in a stack of Primal-types, without the hassle of gathering together enough motes on your alts to make that one more Primal you need.

Although I've seen nothing of the Enchanting system in Cataclysm yet, I would suppose they are doing similar with the Lesser/Greater essences in that regard.

Like I said, it's not a huge change, but the simplification changes nothing in the way you will craft stuff in the end, just that you'll use 120 motes instead of 12 Primals.

How easy is this stuff going to be to get. Will it drop off of elementals and such, or will it be mined or both like the old motes. I hope it will be easy to obtain these new items because you need it for just about all the new tailoring items.

There are no more gas clouds. The mote extractor has been replaced by the Electrostatic Condenser.

There are "Pools of Fire" at Cannon's Inferno in Twilight Highlands and in the large pool of lava immediately in front of Sulfuron Spire in Mount Hyjal. Fishing from them rewards 1-2 Volatile Fire per cast, and there are four separate potential spawn points that each pool can spawn in either location. You'll only ever find two pools at a time. However, when you "clear" one of those two pools, another pool may spawn nearby shortly after. If you aren't sharing these with other players, you'll likely witness all four pools spawn in that location.

After all four pools are depleted in one location, they'll not begin to respawn for a good 15 minutes. Keep in mind that the pools in Twilight Highlands are unrelated to the pools in Mount Hyjal, so you can fish in one zone and switch to the next. After you finish fishing in one, the pools should have started respawning in the other. (Thank you, Cryptorchild)

While waiting for pool of fire respawns, I fish in the lava with 400 fishing, 100 lure, 10 rumsey rum, I find a lot of bones, but every 1 in 15 casts or so I get 2 volatile fires. So they are in the open lava, but very rare.

Pools are the best place to farm these, seems 3 spawn every 7-10 minutes, about 6-8 volatile fire per pool, you will ONLY catch volatile fire.

Edit: Seems they are now hotly contested, had to fight my way through 9 horde and an alliance to get 3 casts from 1 pool.

This early in the expansion I did my research and looked around multiple different areas to find the best place to farm almost all of the new Volatile materials used in tradeskills. I've managed to find the best areas to farm every single one expect for Life, which im still in the process of finding the best area for. (The one in Hyjal was nerfed recently). These drop at a rate of about 36 per hour from the Unbound Emberfiends in Twilight Highlands. Not sure how good that is, but it serves my purposes for now =)

For those that can't be bothered with fishing, Humbolt's Conflagration in Twilight Highlands is a solid place to farm them. Tons of mobs, quick respawns, and when it's not being farmed by others I can get 30-40 per hour.

Farming these in Humbolt's Conflagration in a 30 minute period landed me 27 volatiles. Id like to point out in that timeframe i killed 37 mobs which didnt yield 1 volatile, i was either lucky to begin with, extremely unlucky towards the middle, or there is some sort of cap on the volatiles for a certain time period, im guessing i was merely unlucky.

Also did an hour session with a potion of treasure finding, i acquired 46 volatile fires and 8 treasure chests the chests contained:
1 volatile life
25 embersilk cloth
27g

Either the rates for the potions were nerfed or i got $%$%# over.

As an ilevel 347 mage it was constant dpsing them without stopping moving in circles around the basin. Happy farming.

I went to Hyjal on a fresh level 60 Warlock who just bought Kalimdor flying with within 45 minutes or so I leveled my fishing from 50 to 125 by fishing in and around pools. Netted me with 46 volatile fires. When the pools were depleted I simply fished in the lava and got half a dozen fires this way. Im not even journey man fishing so dont let those small bones, melted axes and skulls stop you from fishing normally if the pools haven't respawned yet.

I would strongly suggest fishing the Pools of fire in Twilight Highlands if you're aiming to farm Volatile Fires.
I went for the mobs first in both the northern and more southern parts of Twilight before I started to fish, and the drops from those elementals were, not to great.

I'm currently standing in Cannon's Inferno, which is in the southwest part of Twilight Highlands, fishing in the pools of fire, and I was able to fish up x17 Volatile Fires within 4 minutes.
The pools give you a 100% chance of getting volatile fires, and you don't have to fight any mobs for it.
It took 6 minutes for a new pool to show up.

The only time I would go back to killing mobs for these, would be when I'm waiting for a new pool to show.
This will ofcourse also add to your "That's A Lot of Bait" guild achievement.

I tried today casting in pools of fire.....nice place to farm imo cuz i found melted cleaver,a 5g ish grey item every 5 casts or so.

for some reason i cant find volatile fire....been at it for 10 mins till i gave up.

Volatiles are the new Eternals / Primals of Cataclysm.

Pools of fire in cannon's inferno Do tend to give volatile fire BUT(!) only if you cast into the flames.

there's parts of the pool that seem to be on flames.casting there will give volatile fire.

casting elsewhere in pools of fire may yield you a melted cleaver(5g grey junk) every 7 or so casts.

Bad News?

It seems like the pools of Volatile fire only net about 2 maybe 3 catches now before the pool goes away. Each catch may be either 1 or 2 Volatile fire but still kinda sucks compared to the 4 or 5 it used to be!

Will confirm that fishing in the lava pool's in Mount Hyjal, for 30min +/- farmed 30 Volatile Fires . LvL 450 fishing skill and +30 buff on my pole. That was w/ 3 Pools of Fire spawning . They respawned in about 10min. GL Happy Farming..

Highly recommend you farm these in Twilight Highlands Cannon's Inferno during 2:00-3:00am game time spawn time seemed quicker after draining the first two pools another two appear happened at least twice. Also whilst casting was rudely interrupted by one of the mobs which needed to die to I could recast decided to drop 3 fires which was nice so nice area to both farm and fish :)

edit- also doing the farming with fishing lvl 1 and getting the volatiles so doesnt matter lvls

I can confirm that Volatile Fire also drops from fishing OUTSIDE of the pool.
It's not better than Pools of fire, but it's something while waiting for pools to spawn.

since i farm here atleast once a week in Mount Hyjal. The facts are there are four pools that take an average of 15minutes to respawn. There are roughly 3-7 volatile fires in each pool. Since on the normal side mainly lower amounts will consist. So an average of 4 volatile fires per pool. I make about 16x4 = 64volatile fires this way cause when i do this. (Late at night) make a good income an hour. about 1000gold an hour on my server.

Can anyone confirm whether a high fishing skill will net more v.fires from the lava (not pools)?

My 405 fishing skill + 150 lure does not turn up v.fires for me. (I haven't sat long enough to see how low the 'drop-rate' would be)
I'm hoping that at max fishing plus a lure, the drop-rate will be higher. Anyone confirm?

Found that farming the pools of fire around Lord Cannon can be profitable. Not much competition for that spot. Was able to get about 15 Volatile Fires in 5 minutes and the pools take about 10-15 minutes to respawn.

Can the turtle be caught from Pool of Fire?

I'll be testing this myself, will report back if I get it to drop

EDIT: About 200 Volatile Fire caught from Pools of Fire, no turtle yet. I'll report later when I get some more Volatiles and maybe a turtle ;)

If you go to farm these in Mount Hyjal, you should know that there are only 4 nods, and they spawn in the exact same spots everytime. I farmed here 3 days in a row for the volatiles, and as long as your the only one farming them at the time its great, you can get up 20 volatiles in one sweep. If you need more then that, bring a lunch, cause for me, the nods respawned every 7 to 9 mintues. So has great quantity, but slow spawning.

Just to update this post, i'm currently camping Terrorpene who spawns right below these farming grounds. I've been here just fishing the nods and they are spawning a bit faster then normal. They are now spawning every 6 to 8 minutes, and still producing between 3 to 6 volatiles each. Also to update the none pool of fire fishing tip I gave, it is still effective, you do not have to fish from pools to get this volatile. If you fish from the regular lava, you well get them as I did. If my math is right, you'll get 1 volatile fire from regular lava fishing to every 13 you get from pools. The rest is vendor junk.

Just FYI, if you're farming for something that needs an insane amount of mats, like oh, say...Jeweler's Ruby Monocle...

You're much better off fishing in the pools of fire than running around killing Flame Ascendants. wondered how much better killing them would be since they're right south of where i was fishing fire pools, as i saw on the comments that they were "excellent for farming Volatile Fire". you can go around killing like over ten and not get any drops (but you get greens); versus the very fast way of racking up the volatiles from the fire pools; the Crackling Crystals and Shimmering Shards will probably cover the cost of having to fly to Nordrassil or Everlook, if you're like me at lvl 79 and Gates of Sotham's phased out, to empty out bags etc...

Miners do NOT in fact get Volatile Air or Life, unless one were to count an Engineer/Miner with the Condenser.

So, i had been fishing those in lava pools in the sulfurion spire in hyjal with a fishing skill of 4.For about 5 minutes i got 32 volatile fire.There were times when i got 1 volatile but at some point i recieved 3 from 1 throw.So it's mostly about luck if you get 1-3 but it's 100% confirmed that you can fish those with 1 skill as long as you stick to pools. I really hope i've helped anyone :P

After fishing the fire out of Sulfurion in south Hyjal, I go right next door - just east of it - to Ascendant's Rise and kill the flame ascendants. They have super fast spawn rates, sometimes spawning several - like 4 or 5 - before I can look them all. They drop Volatile Fire, and I keep a treasure finding potion on, although the tiny treasure boxes seem to be more and more scarce. By the time I kill them for a while, I can go back to the fishing pools in Sulfurion. I get an obscane amount of fire this way.

I found a decent way to farm these. I went to Sulfuron Spire and fished in the lava pools until there were none left, and then killed the Magma Giants that surround it while waiting for the pools to respawn. In about 20 minutes, I managed to get 37 volatile fires with 416 fishing skill.

I have been fishing Volatile fire from the pool's that spawn around Lord Cannon a few interesting facts:

They respawn ever 5 to 10 minutes

Find Fish will help you locate them

Fishing these from the pools will give you a 100% chance at catching 1 or 2 Volatile Fires

You Will Gain levels in your Fishing while Fishing in these pools

If your at 85 you can stay on Lord Cannon's Island running around the perimeter and not aggro him, and very seldom will you aggro the elementals on the other side of the Fire River

The best source it seems for these are from fishing the "pools of fire" in The Throne of Flame in Mt. Hyjal. My fishing is only 281 on my 85 and I was getting 1-2 every 2 to 3 minutes. Went around Hyjal trying to kill for them and only got 5 in an hour...

Dunno why, but a lot of different people on my server drop 1-7 pieces of Volatile Fire with a buyout for 1 copper a piece. Anyone has any idea why? I've been buying it this way for a week now, I've seen a dozen different folks sell it that low.

This farming method is very effective, they sell for anything from 4-10g on my server, depending on the market. Here are a couple of things I've noticed while farming these.

Up to 4 pools at a one time both at Mount Hyjal and Twighlight Lands

You can fish each pool from 3 to 4 times

Each cast will yield you 1-2 Volatiles (average of 5-6 per pool, although I have received a maximum of 8, (rarely))

Respawn times of the pools are quite long, around 12-15 minutes.

The most effective classes at farming these would be Mage's.

A mage can use teleport to Org, and then use the portals at the back to enter Hyjal or Twlilight Lands, the timing is about right aswell, if you are quick you may have to wait a few minutes for respawns.
If you are in serach for these for mats, I highly suggest NOT buying them as they are so easy to farm.

I fished with my character 3 years ago. Got up to 13 and decided fishing in WOW was the most boring thing you could do.

With my 13 fishing skill I fished the Mt Hyjal pools and in 20 minutes I caught 24 Vol. fire. No lure. As long as the bobber was within the pool I caught 1-2 Vol fire until the pool disappeared. Usually 3 or 4 (maybe 5 once?) casts but one disappeared after 2 casts.

You get these from fishing the pools of fire in Hyjal at Sulfurion Spire. Someone stated that you cannot get these from fishing in the lava which isn't true. You won't get them too often, but if you're waiting for the pools to respawn you can get some from the lava. I fished up 2 fires from the normal lava and about 22G in greys in just a few casts. You're probably better off running between Twilight Highlands and Hyjal between spawns, but if you don't wish to run around, fishing the lava CAN get a couple here and there and some gold from Melted Cleaver's which come up quite often and are worth 5g 57s each to vendor.

edit: I've been fishing up 3 - 6 per pool at this time. 1 or 2 per cast.

If you're on a populated server, or simply don't like fishing, a great alternative for farming Volatile Fire are the Charred Vanquishers.

Once you've unlocked the Molten Front dailies, you can just hang out at the battlefront north of Malfurion's Breach, these mobs will just keep pouring forward, no need to run around.

If possible, wait until Lava Burster are the daily 'bonus mobs', because they will stay out of your way, for the most part.
The Ancient Charhounds are not so bad, but it can be a real nuisance to farm when the Molten Behemoths are on the offense; they aggro easily, they're elite, and they have a ranged AoE, and their sheer size makes looting more hassle.

A good place to get this item is fishing from the Sulfurion Spire in hyjal, The pools give 100% volatile fire, when the pools are gone i always run a dungeon and when i come back they are back, doesn't matter on fishing level if you fish in the pools.
