To get Slow and Steady Wins the Race you have to complete 4 races provided from the quests A Race to the Finish.

Quests:

Roggy is the most slowly Snail, to win his race you have to let mobs that can spawn attack the other Snails while you keep speed up him.

How to do A Race to the Finish:

Wait for the race begins.
Speak with Corry while the race are starting.
Select the Treats corresponding to the Snail.
Use the Treats to speed up your Snail and win the race.

Treats:
Tricky Treats: Encourage orange snail "Tricky" to move faster.
Bashful Treats: Encourage blue snail "Bashful" to move faster.
Brulee Treats: Encourage teal snail "Brulee" to move faster.
Roggy Treats: Encourage orange snail "Roggy" to move faster.

Notes:

DON'T KILL MOBS THAT SPAWN IF THE MOBS DONT HIT YOUR SNAIL.
Use extra button macro.

For Roggy, make a group of 3+ and you'll be able to win it easily spamming the treats.

Another achievement that can be totally boned by other players. Roggy is the only hard one-- the others are simple: just put down goop in their path and they'll eventually win. With Roggy, you need to lead him pretty well with goop (overlaps don't always count for a speed boost). Then pray to your RNG overlords that other players don't come in and either boost other snails, or kill the mobs as they attack the snails. If either happens, Roggy can't win. If you hit the lottery and no players are around, you should be able to do this.

Got it but needed a group of ~5 people.
we all stacked the treats so his speed would go up 5 stacks, when he finished the race even tricky wasnt half way around the course!

You will lose the treat buff if you get dragged into combat with someone else's hostile Festival Challenger. I had that happen and it was especially aggravating since I was going for the Roggy credit.

What a #$%^ing stupid thing. Even when your snail is winning by a lot, Tricky can just decide "nope" and teleport RIGHT at the finish line.

Finally got this solo. Pure luck. No other players were there, and NPCs attacked the other racers. I've been close a few times, but on the last stretch NPCs always help Tricky and he zooms ahead. This time Tricky was attacked on the last corner, so the NPCs' treats were useless!

Frustrating though that this achievement ultimately comes down to pure luck.

This achievement is an absolute nightmare when trying to get Roggy.

The ONLY thing I found that even slightly helped other then the other tips given here was creating a macro in say that tells people they get a special pet and achievement if they let Roggy win.

As soon as someone even got close to the track myself and the group I was in all used the macro at once and that seemed to get people to realize they needed to let Roggy win. Most of the people either stopped or helped out then.

Sadly it won't help if someone decides to be a troll which we did have happen a few times, but they eventually get bored and leave or you can leave and come back and hope you get a shard/realm change.

I had only done the snail race quest that's initially available while below Loamm Niffen rank 7 (when snail races unlock), and found that hanging around the area will provide you with credit for the other various snails that win races, without you having to do anything further.

Just had Roggy win the race on his own while I was reading this page, so thats apparently possible.

Fragment of Desire does not work here because the Snails are not categorized as Critters so don't waste your time and wonder why nothing happens.

This one can be a bit tricky as Roggy is kind of slow and other players like to be mean! You need to get some good RNG and hope the NPC's attack the other snails in the lead. Once they are in combat DO NOT HELP THEM! Tricky also gets a big boost of treats at the end sometimes so make sure you keep spamming roggy even if it looks like you have a good lead!

At some point Corry says: Get your snail treats for the next race. We want these racers motivated to win!
Just chose food for the snail you want as the winner and spam extra button on it before the next race beggins (when snails runs to the losers spot).
I did this solo and Roggy was way ahead (cf screenshot), but maybe I was just lucky.

I got the achievement randomly while trying to complete Family Battler of Zaralek Cavern at Trainer Orlogg. It seems that others can do it all for you while still getting credit for it.

I just got it randomly, as excited fans flooded the race track, and Roggy made a mad dash to the goal line, I was thinking it would not count, as I did not have threats but I got the achievement and pet.

I was showing my snails to Briggul when Roggy just managed somehow to win his/her/their race, so as others said you can get this without doing anything at all, you just have to be VERY lucky to be there at right time.

I have the achievement Slow and Steady wins the race completed (5/04/23). i have NOT received the Bashful pet for some reason. I do have the other 3. when i run the scripts to check completion on the 4 versions of A Race to the Finish quests three show as false. the quest progression numbers are consistent 75706, 75707 (75708 for Roggy does register as true if that number is put into a script) until you come to Bashful (75662). Have not seen any of those quests since.

No idea how i could get the achievement credit and 3 of the other pets without getting the 4th pet Bashful. the big difference in the quests numbers may mean something?

*edit* i had the info on Roggy wrong. it now is the reward for the achievement Slow and Steady Wins the Race, according to my achievements log. i assume that is why it shows here ans an invalid quest id?

has anyone received all 4 pets?

The achievement Slow and Steady Wins the Race now correctly checks to see if you actually purchased treats for the racer that won before awarding credit.

Roggy is bugged, throwing on cooldown and it always loses as you literally can't throw faster.

Tricky as his name suggests will cheat like Dic Dastardly, Had a clear lead with Roggy with the other two held up by fans and Tricky trailing behind. Around the last corner the fans seemed to throw a fit at the sheer concept of Roggy winning and proceeded to line up continuous feed for Tricky all the way to the finish line stealing the win. left me foaming at the mouth with anger at a snail and wanting to bury my axe into every fan at the race circuit that robbed poor Roggy of a win.

Do the Roggy race with someone else and just spam treats on top of him. I tried about six times before this, and got it my first time with another person.

Got this today solo. Around the first u-turn, fans attacked Bashful and Brulee. I had Roggy in the lead heading to the 2nd u-turn when Tricky got boosted by an NPC and took the lead. Then another fan spawned and took out Tricky at the top of the u-turn which allowed Roggy to win.

As I was writing this, I just watched Roggy win with zero player interaction. The same thing happened on the first u-turn, Bashful and Brulee got into an NPC fight. Then, halfway through the 2nd straightaway 2 fans started a fight with Tricky which allowed Roggy to just mosey on to the finish line for a win.

Just FYI, you do not have to wait for the quests to appear. Once a race starts you can talk to Corry - Snail Treat Chef and he will offer you the treats for which ever pet you are looking to help win. Using the extra-action button once you have the treat and your pet wins is enough for the achievement to progress and you get 100 rep for the win without having to have the quest.

I had the treats pre-race and got a few on the ground before being attacked. Once attacked I lost the treats but thought I was getting lucky because Roggy was still in the lead. Roggy won. I did not get the achieve. Do you have to have the treats active?

Good new is I only had to do it a couple more times before the other three got attacked by excited fans which allowed Roggy to win and get me the achieve.

How to get the Roggy credit easy mode:

1. Get treats for Roggy
2. You now have the treats buff that lasts 60 minutes
3. Afk next to the treats vendor, go make a cup of tea

Races are non stop; with enough luck, the fans will attack all the other snails and let roggy win; happened to me after 30 minutes. Throwing treats at roggy was not needed.

It's basically RNG. You have to hope fans or critters interfere with the other three and keep yours moving. Took me 4-5 tries and then the fans interfered with the other three. A@#$%^ and making tea like that other person said might be viable too, but your chances I imagine are lower if you don't protect your snail. GL!

Here’s my experience with Roggy :/

Race #1:
- I speed Roggy up as much as possible.
- He zigs and zags like he’s dodging invisible obstacles only he can see.
- Finishes the race in 3rd place.

Race #2:
- I speed Roggy up, cursing his drunken stroll the whole time.
- Roggy starts moving in a surprisingly straight-ish line… until the end when he of course takes a hard left just before the finish line and looks like he’s about to stroll off the tracks.
- 2 fans jump from the sidelines mid-race and start attacking the 1st and 2nd place snails. I point and laugh in the snails’ faces as I zoom past them to claim my victory.

Race #3:
- I’m standing there at the finish line clearing my bags and admiring my new pet when I suddenly see Roggy zooming past me and crossing the finish line….
- I look around and see the other 2 snails a mile away…
- The fourth snail is dying halfway across the track with 2 fans stomping on it, actually dies!, and goes poof once the other snails cross the finish line.
- …… There was no one else there! No one was helping Roggy! Dude! Why couldn’t you have done that when I was helping you out! It’s like he was mocking me… “Yeah I know how to win (wink wink), I just didn’t feel like it.”

Maybe they changed things because Roggy isn't terribly difficult if you stay on top of throwing treats at him. I ran it 2 1/2 times and no NPC attacked him.

I had to run it more than once simply because something went wrong - I should have won the first time. Had him across the finish. No call for the winner, and he despawned, and respawned around the far curve. I don't know if I got sharded at just the worst possible time or what. Couldn't recover that setback, but on the next full run I won again and finally got credit.

Roggy being slow would be more bearable if his pathing wasn't crap.
Going to have to get a friend to help me out, I think. I got so close first time, but Tricky's fans activated near the end.

The most important factor, I've found, is Tricky getting attacked by something. When Tricky gets to the final stretch, a bunch of fans will start throwing treats at him, and unless Roggy is right at the finish when that happens, Tricky will speed by and there's nothing you can do. Thankfully, Tricky seems to do much less damage to hostile mobs than Bashful or Brulee, so if he gets attacked by a viper or a fan and nobody helps, he's out of the race.

Got this by getting a guildie to help me. The Roggy treat gives him a short buff and the effect stacks, so if 2 people hit him at the same time the boost is extra strong, and makes it a lot lot easier.

We were lucky and no mobs got involved in the race. I stayed off the track to try avoid any aggro.

Just completed the achievement with an insane amount of luck. 2 Excited fans appeared and stopped the dark blue and cyan snails, litterally taking them out of the race, which helped me get the lead. But then 4 or 5 NPC started boosting the orange snail. And it, ofc, got so far ahead from me. While i was in a rage and deep frustration, another excited fan appeared and stunned the orange snail which game me the perfect opportunity to sneak around and grab the desired win

RNG is super heavy and throwing treats does very little. The best strategy seems to be to get the treats then AFK for 1hr and hopefully you´l get it.
Edit: looks like blizzard hotfixed this (or maybe its a bug). You will sometimes lose the buff.
My new recomendation is to AFK and come back every 5 mins or so to check if you got it or not

Honestly, I think the secret to this one is really all in the name. Roggy doesn't really get much of a boost from treats, but it's also the only snail that never gets targeted by hostile NPCs. So I think you really do just have to wait until a race where all the other snails get attacked so that 'slow and steady' Roggy wins.
