The true stats of this item are those.
Those items, Bind on Account, will bring exciting features to all high level characters that wanna level an alt easily or wanna twink.

Blue Posts say that Bind on Account items will be the equivalent of a blue item of the characters level, but will scale with level.
For instance, if an axe gives at level 80 135 stamina and 59 strength, at level 1 it would give 1 strength and 2 stamina.
At level 1 those items will be slightly overpowered, a level 1 Bind on Account item = a level 10 green.

The stats of this item seem very nice, and I guess that the 10% more xp from killing monsters thingy will give you something like 1 free level every ~16, and that is not negligible, imho!

If you want to farm from level 69 to 70 monsters, with that item on you will have to farm 10% less time. If normally you would have to farm 5 hours, with that item you would have to farm 4 hours and 30 mins. Preety sweet!

The original name for these items was "heirloom items". The concept is that they're hand-me-downs from higher-level friends. This is why they're all based off pre-TBC gear like Dreadmist, and why many of them are tattered, stained, etc.

Normally an BoE item becomes soulbound, when you enchant it with a shoulder enchant. But these items are BoA, so it might work...
But I guess blizzard will prevent this from happening.

If you're curious as to how this item scales down with your character's level (for purposes of twinking or general curiosity), you can use the LINK button at the top of this item page to link the item in-game: the WoW client will automatically scale the item stats down to your character's level for you. It should be noted that this (and the other cloth shoulders, the pvp ones) can be worn by any of your characters. If you plan on leveling up a clothie and some others, this might be all you need.

I have these on my 19 twink lock, anyone that's interested in seeing what they downgrade too can pull her up on the armory. They also give 6 spell power at lvl 19, which for some reason doesn't show on the armory, weird.

Presently this item is about on par with some of the dungeon blues avalible at the particular level, not likely to replace your T6 epics but its not bad for that lonely lock/mage/priest who didn't make it to BC in time.

If I wanted to get a ZG shoulder enchant or a Naxx(pre bc) shoulder enchant on these items for a 39 twink, would i have to only get exalted with the factions on my main, enchant them, and send them over? or would my twink have to be exalted with the faction as well in order for the enchant to show up?

For anyone thats confused, these DO work with zone-wide bonus exp, along with rested xp, so yes, it could potentially become +20% xp per kill with rested!

Enchants on these shoulders like those from Zul'Gurub remain after mailing between characters. I tested it out and can promise you it works, making these very nice for alts and twinks and whatnot.

Stacks to 15% increase while rested
After looking back over My test results

Without vs with
250+125=375 without 10%
276+138=414 with 10%

276-250=26 (thats the 10% on the base xp)
138-125=13 (thats the bonus on the rested)
26+13=39

You gain 26 rep without rested
You gain 13 additional rep with rested
A total increase of 39 rep when rested instead of 26.

So using the shoulders with rested state gives you 15% increase instead of 10% when rested.

You can enchant BoA items with enchants that require ilvl 1 item, or don't have requirements of ilvl and do not bind item after enchant (rep/profession-only "soulbounding enchants" cannot be used on BoA items).

Also 10% bonus stack with rested state:
<base xp>*<rested>*<shoulders>
or simply <base xp>*2,1

You can enchant them with a shoulder enchant only available at exalted with the zandalar tribe. But as you'll be lvl 80 with some heroic experience, you might be able to solo ZG or certainly two-man it.
It's a lot of work if you are neutral,but if you have your mind on twinking,you don't want to miss out on this baby.

Edit: Even if you don't want to do pvp with a twink,this is still the most powerful enchant you'll be able to get for your shoulders.

Since they are bind-to-account, they're already bound to you regardless of whether you apply an enchant to them or not. So if you got ahold of a pre-BC shoulder enchant such as the ZG one people are mentioning in these comments, you can enchant them then mail them to whatever character needs the item.

Currently, to level from 1 to 80, you must obtain a total of 26,106,500 experience points. If you wear these shoulders for the duration, you save yourself 2,610,650 points.

That's like getting over half of your 78-79 experience and all of your 79-80 experience free.

. . . Or to look at it another way, that's enough to get you from level 1 to half way to level 47.

The only reason to eqip these shoulders are the 10% extra XP. One could believe that the buyer should be grateful that on top of this massive leveling buff there's nice stats and level scaling.

If that's not why you bought them - well, bad luck. There are methods to check the item stats in-game on your character before spending 40 emblems. Maybe you should have done that instead of coming here and griping like the spoiled (or ill-informed) player you obviously are.

Need clarification

This item's 10% bonus xp does not stack with rested XP from the testing I have done, thats not to say they are useless as they scale great and its a slot you don't need to worry about changing till you start raiding.

can someone else test this to ensure I am not getting this wrong but it doesnt appear to stck the 10% on top of rested, if you are rested you get 200% not 210% or 220%, soon as rested is used it it goes back to 110%.

Would like someone else to check and make sure its not a glitch on my end. It could make the difference to deciding whether to buy this or not if someone has a char with 2 full bars of rested don't want them to think they have been ripped off :)

*edit* yes, i can confirm after further testing it does indeed stack with rested xp bonus, don't know why it wasn't displaying it correctly in my combat log. something else for me to work out

Just saw this on my own character. The shoulders that give you an XP buff have ALL been granted the additional ability of increasing the amount of XP you get from quests as well as from monsters. Leveling just got a HELL of a lot easier!

As of patch 3.1, these shoulders now give a 10% exp bonus from both killing mobs AND quest reward exp.

Pre-patch 3.1, they only gave the bonus for killing mobs.

Out of all the heirloom shoulders, these are the only ones you'll ever need. Get these and ALL your future alts can enjoy good stats and 10% xp.

Yes, you lose out on slightly more appropriate shoulders (let's say, Agi and Sta ones for hunters, etc), but it doesn't matter much! These give some stamina, intellect and lots of spirit, and those 3 stats (hover for easy reference) help most classes in some way or another. Mostly caster classes of course since they need all three stats (as well as the spellpower bonus), with ranged classes being semi-helped thanks to bigger hp/mana pool and regen, and melee classes not much since they lack mana but at least they get the HP.

And that's just the point:

1) The stats are quite universal, helping Casters > Ranged > Melee in that order, with no class seeing these shoulders as TOTALLY useless.
2) They can be used by ALL your alts, forever, for a permanent 10% bonus to mob and quest xp regardless of class.
3) Stats don't matter THAT much at low levels, and you still have all the other slots to put good items in.

So I say get these shoulders and ignore the other ones. These are infinitely more useful than the highly class-specific ones (mail, plate, bad stats, etc). I see absolutely no reason to min-max at low levels. Instead, get these shoulders which work for all classes and gives everyone 10% xp, and spend your remaining Emblems of Heroism on other Heirlooms for the other slots!

PS: There's another cloth shoulder which would work okay as well, but it gives PVP stats (so no mana pool, and no big bonus to caster classes) and is ugly as hell. If I'm going to use a 10% xp shoulder on ALL my new alts, I'd rather take the one with frickin skulls on the sides. ;-)

You can use any shoulder-enchant on BoA-shoulders now since the change in the 3.1 patch.
But you need to fit the required lvl to gain the benefit, for example last night i enchanted my Polished Spaulders of Valor with the Scryer shoulder-enchant and it got on just fine,
but i needed to be lvl70 to gain the extra attackpower and crit.

Edit: It still works after 3.2.0, this screenshot is taken at 31/8 (check the calendar-button). Quite some time after 3.2.0 hit.

This is worth the Emblem of Heroism, no doubt.
If you level a character from 1 to 80, and you get 10% more XP from quests and mobs, you get 160 bars bonus thanks to those shoulders.

Sorry to say that the math on the first part is a bit off. The shoulders do not allow you to do 10% less work, they give 10% more for what you actually do. So it should really be

(Adjusted Total Exp) = (Original Total Exp) * 100%/110%

23,733,182 = 26,106,500 * 10/11
for a savings of 2,373,319

still completely worth it.

How do these items work? I was in a group and was getting 2450exp a kill and someone the same level as me not wearing these or anything like them was getting the same exp. So now the question also is do the exp gain stack with rested bonus or do these only take effect when your rested is over as far as kills go, and do the kills exp count while in a group.

Not just for the stats or even the +10% XP (which is not to be sniffed at), it's worth mentioning that these are pretty good-looking shoulderpads!

Consider all truly dreadful-looking shoulders you'll come across while levelling to 80, not to mention the fact that if you have them from level 1, there's going to be about twenty levels to go until you can even get something else to equip in that slot.

I've been levelling a mage (currently at 37), clicking through the levels at a rate of one per two hours of play-time, even with my usual amble-along, stop-to-smell-the-roses-every-once-in-a-while pace. So far I haven't had a robe that these have clashed awfully with.

Totally Worth It. :D

Cloth is great option for all alts to use the item.

Polished Spaulders of Valor will down rank to mail until a pally or warrior can wear plate at level 40.

Although the tooltip says it loud and clear, you need to be 55 to benefit from the ZG chant. You can still wear the shoulders if you are lowlvl.

At level 80 you get gold instead of experience for completing quests. Since these now apply to quest experience as well, if a level 80 wears these, do they get 10% extra gold?

I just went to the vendor in Dalaran to buy this item. With 402 spellpower, it would have been a huge improvement for my gear. But I was disappointed to find that the item in fact only has 59 spellpower, and therefore would be a big downgrade for me. Someone at Wowhead needs to recheck the stats of the new heirloom gear. There were 6 Heirloom items on my gear wishlish that appear to good to be true. Two were shoulders (including these shoulders), four trinkets. Guess I'll check the other items out in WOW and verify if they also list the spellpower incorrectly.

I've got a 62 Priest that could definitely use this and the heirloom chest! Also, if you think a little into the future, everyone will have 5 more levels to grind when Cataclysm comes out. So, if nothing else, it's at least worth it to get the two +10% exp. pieces for your main to use when the expansion hits!

If you have multiple toons you want heirlooms for, but don't want to/can't drop lots of emblems for different types, just get these.

Even for a warrior, DK, hunter, ect. the 10% exp bonus greatly outweighs the lack of melee stats.

If you're really stubborn about not wearing caster armor while killing stuff, at the very least just wear them while turning in quests.

I can confirm that Master's Inscription of the Storm does work work on these if you are level 70 or above. Wish I knew this sooner since I only tried it at 78. It goes without saying then that any Inscription only shoulder 'chant can be applied to any shoulder heirloom if the player if level 70 or above. So it's worth it for Scribes to get to 425 as fast as possible in order to benefit from this the most.

Doing this almost triples the SP of the item at 70 (going from 41SP to 111SP). At level 80, you will go from 59SP to 129SP, more than doubling the SP. In either case, you also get some nice crit, as well.

i know this is going to seem like a REALLY dumb question to some but which is better for leveling these or the Exquisite Sunderseer Mantle? i have a lvl 21 priest im leveling and the stats are for 21 are:
Exquisite Sunderseer Mantle:
33 armor
+5 stamina
improves crit by 34
improves resilience by 51
improves spell power by 59
increase exp gain by 10%

Tattered Dreadmist Mantle:
33 armor
+4 stamina
+4 intellect
+5 spirit
increase spell power by 6
increase exp gain by 10%

now the resilience part i dont care about but its the intellect and spirit from the dreadmist versus the crit and spell power of the sunderseer so which is TECHNICALLY better just for leveling a clothie?

Just to set the record straight, you can put enchants on these that require a higher level. They don't become active until you reach that level though. I assume blizz did that with this and the head slot BtAs since there's not much of shoulder/head enchants for ilvl 1s. Everything else (chest, back, weapon, ring ) can only accept enchants that don't have a level requirement. Also Wrath shoulder enchants don't work, only Vanilla and TBC ones do. I personally have Greater Inscription of the Orb on mine, so I know it works.

well the only shoulder enchant that worked with this heirloom was Zandalar Signet of Mojo or Zandalar Signet of Serenity ZANDALAR tribe exalted rewards from vainilla Zul Gurub, but this faction was removed from game in patch 4.0.
By the way if u enchanted ur shoulders with any of this enchants it remains in your item, im using it in priest alt right now, the only problem is that the enchant remains innactive (in red) until u get 55, (that is the enchant requiriment), NICE to still have it!

I was able to purchase all of the Level 50 Argent Dawn shoulder enchants except for this one, from both Argent Dawn quartermasters, at Patch 4.3.3. Furthermore I was able to apply it to BOA shoulders and mail them to an alt. The alt has neutral rep with Argent Dawn and the enchant was active at level 50.

I do however acknowledge reports on Wowhead that this is not true for all players, I believe it depends when you acquired Argent Dawn rep and which quests you had completed.
