Any ideas what this is for? I found one in a pool of lava at Scalecracker Peaks, and it's interactable, but nothing happens when i click it. It says "lvl 70 beast" and I'm only 66, so maybe I need a higher lvl?

To obtain Magmashell, you have to find an Empty Magma Shell.
These have a chance to drop off Lavaslurpers. Once you obtain this item, go over to Empowered Snail inside the lava and use the item on it.

Note: Everlasting Horn of Lavaswimming allows you to avoid the Lava damage, so it's really useful to have for this mount, as the snail is located in a lava pool. Bringing a healer will work too.

Getting a healer or the lava immunity toy is really recommended for this.

You can cast (certain spells, not all) during the required 20 second channel to obtain the mount, however if you still die you may end up like me, permanently stunned and unable to do anything after respawning.

Also a small sidenote, the beast you are 'taming' despawns after someone completes the channel, so you may face some competition trying to obtain this as only one person can get it at a time.

The Empored Snail takes around 25min to spawn, if you see it getting caught you can more or less adjust your next visit.
Also use a macro to target it, as it is a criter. /tar emp did it for me.

Looted at 11:45, respawned at 12:18 for a friend. So most likely a 30min respawntimer with +/- 5minutes.

If you're an evoker and don't have the toy, you can do it easily and even escape the lava afterward if you go preservation and spec into:

evoker tree:
1) Obsidian Scales
2) Verdant Embrace
3) Renewing Blaze

preservation tree:
1) Reversion
2) Time Dilation
3) Golden Hour
4) Time Lord 2/2
5) Stasis

Then do this:

1) Precast Stasis. Then cast Echo, Reversion, and Verdant Embrace in that order. (Casting Echo on yourself and then Reversion will put two Reversions on you.)

2) Fly straight down into the lava on top of the snail. Use hover to get close faster if you want, but it's probably optional.

3) Cast Obsidian Scales. Activate Stasis to heal yourself back to full and refresh your hots. Hit Time Dilation. Activate Renewing Blaze.

4) Click the snail. Once the cast finishes, Verdant Embrace and heal yourself with instants as you zoom out of the lava with hover once the cast finishes onto the rocks, or go over the lava waterfall and then glide away. Easy mount. No real risk of dying if you do this!

You can just use the Dragonriding absorb shield if you don't want to hassle with healing or getting that lava-immunity toy.

Just did a little testing and it is first come first serve. Whoever finishes the cast first gets the mount. Spawn time was roughly 20 minutes!

If you have a healer, I recommend jumping in about 5 minutes before it spawns. This will get your healer ready, but it will also juke other players into jumping in. Without the horn or heals, which some people seem to do without reading comments, they're going to die before finishing the channel.

For anyone wondering, you can complete the Siege at lvl 60 and have Everlasting Horn of Lavaswimming drop for your alt(s). You won't do much damage during the siege, but the toy can drop!

I dont know if it was meant to do this, or if I just got lucky, but I did this with my hunter and took almost no damage. I did NOT have the Everlasting Horn of Lavaswimming toy. I had the shell and waited for him to spawn. As soon as he did I popped my Apect of the Turtle and swam as quick as I could. Aspect of the Turtle came off after I triggerd the snail, and I stayed at 100% until I started to swim out of the lava. Not sure if it's a guarantee, but it worked for me. Good luck!

Saw this comment elsewhere on Wowhead, but I'll repeat it here, as it worked for me.

If you're a hunter, simply pop Aspect of the Turtle just before going into the lava. It won't do anything for helping with your breath bar, but it WILL completely protect you from lava damage, even after Aspect of the Turtle wears off.

I happened to have the Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole from Northrend equipped in my hunter's fishing journal, which provides permanent underwater breathing. It was a bit surreal realizing my lowly hunter could swim around under the surface in molten lava all day without needing to take a breath.

For Demon Hunters, spec Vengeance. Make sure you have Last Resort. If you position your camera to be able to Infernal Strike right to the Snail, pre-cast Metamorphosis, and click immediately. You should have enough time to get the snail and even a few seconds to escape

As DK, simply use AMS BEFORE you enter the lave. You will be immune to lava damage rather than absorb it, and for some reason you stay immune after AMS fades too. May be a bug.

As a mage, you can enter with your usual barrier, get next to the snail, cast Alter Time, click on the snail, and when you are about to die, Alter Time will proc by itself and you will have another 100% hp to get through the last 10 seconds of the cast.

As soon as you finish the cast and get the mount, Ice Block (with the heal talent), and get out of the lava.

Remember you can't move after casting Alter Time, if you do, your cast will be interrupted when it procs.

I must have had a glitch (a good one), on my rogue, waiting with a pair of horde drakthyr. Snail spawned, one horde goes in after it (other is still afk), there for a few sec's and comes back up. Snail is still there, so I figure bugger it, see how long I survive.... Go down, grapple hook once under the lava to get to it quicker. Start the cast watch my health plummet, hit crimson vial, feint and then cloak of shadows. Health pauses.... start channelling again, waiting for health to start dropping again as cloak wears off.... channelling, channelling, gets snail. Health still paused.. ok. Swim to the surface, as I breach, health starts ticking down again, crimson vial, then have trouble getting out of the lava, think yep gonna die, but at least I got the snail. Manage to get out pop a health pot all good. Horde congratulates me, I cheer, they then cry on my shoulder.... lol

GUYS! I found a bug, trying to get the lava snail mount, as a DK if you use anti magic shell before entering the lava, the effect continues and the lava doesn't deal damage to you even when the anti magic shell effect is gone :D

Much like Gusty's comment about AMS for DKs - but for Hunters!

Pop Turtle before you jump in and start to take lava damage, and despite it running out in 8 seconds, the immunity will still hold. It seems crossing the lava threshold while immune means inside the lava won't tick damage on you.

Was able to get the mount then go for a nice lava swim to celebrate for 30 seconds or so before I got bored :D

For Monks:
Spec into Brewmaster and start fighting the spiders that are just south of the lava pool where the snail is. Use your purifying brew and reduce it's recharge rate by hitting the spiders with Keg Smash and Tiger Palm.
Once you get to around 9-10 stacks, use one last purifying brew while you still have stagger and out of combat, mount up and fly to the lava pool. Roll/Chi Torpedo onto the snail, use Celestial Brew to get a massive absorb that should completely negate the lava damage for the first 7 seconds or so. You should then be able to complete the channel and maybe even survive by drinking some Healing Elixirs and using Expel Harm.
Can also try using other defensive abilities like Fortifying Brew and Dampen Harm, but those usually don't negate that much damage and last about as long as the absorb shield from Celestial Brew.

Death Knights can use Anti-Magic Shell before hitting the lava which will negate lava damage for around 20-25 seconds.

Spawn Tips:

If you hate waiting, shard hop using custom groups by joining large lobbies like "Grand Hunts", "Elementals", "Trials", or "Rare Farms"

Catching Tips:

Use two vigor points to fly straight up with your dragon and nose-dive at the snail to get 10 stacks of Dragonrider's Compassion (it's at the bottom of the pool)

Cast Anti-Magic Shell before you hit the lava which will dismount you

Swim down to snail and click on it. You should be able to survive long enough for the cast

Prot Paladin, 373, default talent build.

Dive bomb the lava, and pop divine shield. Start interacting with the snail and pray. I tried twice and died each time by 1 second off. Third time aimed the dive bomb a bit better and got the snail just before dying.

Got the shell for 7k off of Mal'Ganis a few days earlier.

Priest So I was a bit stubborn and it took me a few tries. As shadow I chose dispersion with lots of health and shield on low health passive.

Light's Inspirationx2 and Angelic Bulwark gives a larger health pool and healing on low health
Dispersion
I marked the mob, flew up, crashed into the water, hit Desperate Prayer ->Dispersion -> use mob

I was able to solo this as a Warlock.

First, you need to ensure your talents include:

STRENGTH OF WILL (the "Undending Resolve" choice to the left, in the middle of the Warlock tree)
SOULBURN (bottom right - purple skill

Then you're ready to go - make sure you can target the Empowered Snail and it is there. It has a 25 minute or so spawn. Then this is the sequence:

Ensure that Dark Pact, Unending Resolve, Soulburn, and a Healthstone are available easily on your bar; I put them as keys 1, 2, 3, 4.
Stand at the very end of the rock that slopes gently into the lava.
Cast Demonic Circle: Summon
Pan your camera overhead, and cast your Demonic Gateway so it is right above the snail.
Cast Dark Pact
Immediately click the Demonic Gateway, and while swimming down, hit Unending Resolve, Soulburn, and a Healthstone (you'll have taken a tick of damage, which is required for the Healthstone to activate)
Click the snail to start the 16-second channel.
You should have about 20 seconds total with the defense you've used; as soon as you see the cast bar finish, click Demonic Circle: Teleport

And that's how I did it!

I just got the mount as a lvl 65 mage (95k hp). First I made a targeting macro for the Empowered Snail, so I could easily target it once it spawned - without needing to dive into the lava to check if it had spawned.

Before I ran in to the lava, I put up a mage shield, and blinked to the snail (have specced so that shimmer gives an extra damage shield too).
I then used Alter Time and immediately started channeling the snail. Right before I ran out of health, Alter Time triggered and I went back to around 80% hp without it interrupting the channeling. Was able to finish and got the mount. Got too excited to get out of the lava alive, but it can probably be done if you blink to the shore immediately.

With druid it can be done without healer or Everlasting Horn of Lavaswimming. Just switch to Guardian Specialization, target Empowered Snail and, right before you dive in, use Survival instinct, Barskin and Frenzied regeneration.

As a rogue, you can use Cloak Of Shadows before jumping into the lava to stop the damage and as long as your channelling on the snail as cloak ends you will take no damage from the lava once it expires.

Took me about 5 tries. But I got it as a fresh 70 prot Pally.
Like someone stated I aim to dive bomb it.
From there I popped Guardian of Ancient Kings, Ardent Defender, Concentration(Golden path + 2x Seal of Mercy), and Divine Shield
I only have a 248k HP and I was able to get it and almost escape I had 8kish HP left after the channeling ended.

Use the toy Everlasting Horn Of Lavaswimming! Worked like a Charm It is good for 10 minutes in the Lava. Just got my Mount today! Good Luck

I'm a resto druid, in pretty meh random quest rewards gear. So I landed with my dragon on top of the snail, cast Efflorescence Lifebloom Reju Regrowth Ironbark Wild Growth, then refreshed the first ones again, Bear form, clicked my new snail-friend, easy peasy. Heal up, mount up, fly away victorious.

The shell isn't soulbound, so if you've got an alt that can handle this better (druid, monk), send it to them and try again. My hunter got the drop but my monk finished the job.

Protection Warrior is possible:

1) Pull a nearby Lava Phoenix
2) Build enough rage for 2 casts of Ignore Pain
3) Kill the Phoenix, cast ignore pain twice and mount up on your dragon
4) Fly up and dive into the lava
5) Immediately hit Last Stand, Shield Wall and Rallying Cry
6) Channel the snail

I got the mount with less than 1 second before death. I had 340k hp.

HUNTERS: Once you have the shell and reach the Scalecracker Peaks lava pool, edge down the tall rock at 71.15 25.50 until near the lava. DISMISS YOUR PETS or Activision/PETA will chase you for DF cooking them and not eating them yourself!

Next hit your Aspect of the Turtle and Aspect of the Cheetah and rush down to the bottom of the lava. You'll see what looks like a flat dead baby snail. Click on the SNAIL, not the shell in your bag, until it pops the free Magmashell mount.

NOTE: Currently if Turtle finishes you will not take damage for another minute after obtaining the Magmashell. After testing: if you decide a lava bath is your thing, it'll then fry you and "make you one with the lava". Nearest graveyard is roughly 600 yards away unless RNG randomly spawns you 2k across the zone.

The empty shell isn't soulbound, so feel absolutely free to send it to your alts or guildies or even AH it.

Easy done as a prot warrior. Take Battle-Scarred Veteran talent, pop all CDs, and jump in, start channeling, once you get to below 30% hp you'll take very little damage for 8 seconds.

Here's what i did

Resto spec - with base talent Well-Honed Instincts

Change to 2nd action bar and line up in the following order:
Tree of Life - Rejuvenation - Swiftmend - Overgrowth - Adaptive Swarm - Flourish - Barkskin - Ironbark - Efflorescence - Bear Form

Press 1 through 8 to hots up and jump in the lava. Press 9 and place the flower and 0 to bear form. Now click the snail.

Also i picked talents that reduced damage, gave stamina and otherwise buffed the said spells.

So if you arms warrior like me you could pop up Def Stance and Die by the sword. There is no need to loot anything, mount will just be added to your collection after the end of the cast. Then you, most probably, will die(not by the sword) but if you fast enough you could press Commanding Shout, Bitter Immunity, and leap out of lava pool.

I had a shaman friend put earth sheild on me and I flew up just bit and then flew in to the lava swam down a bit and then used my macro to find it. Clicked on it and watch as the cast bar went and then popper divine sheild. Bang Done. Easy Peasy.

okay. I found the Empty Magma Shell after 10.0.5 came out.
After trying multiple variants of the suggested ways of getting the Empowered Snail solo, I can definitely say that Blizzard has changed it, and now activating any ability while channeling will cancel the channel.
As such, unless you have some way of ignoring the damage for more than 20s while you channel, you will either need something like the lava immunity toy, or a healer to keep you up during the channel.
You can pop an immunity before you start the cast, which will give you the duration of that immunity, but even as a ~400 ilvl prot pally I was unable to survive in the lava long enough to complete the cast.

For channelling the snail. It also helps if you wear 6 pieces of the Raging Tempest set.
You will get an 8 second immunity buff upon fatal damage. Protection of the Fallen Dragons

As a prot warrior I struggled a bit to get close enough fast enough just using the idea of ignore pain, dive in and pop last stand, shield wall and rallying cry. To buy more time I changed some talents - I swapped out Champion's Bulwark and used Battle-scarred veteran instead, and used Enduring Alactrity and Endurance Training as well. You are not doing any more combat than one of the phoenixes after all. I still died because I could get out of the lava afterwards! But I got the mount.

You need to interact with Empowered Snail after obtaining Empty Magma Shell to get Magmashell. I have a short video on how to get the mount here: https://youtu.be/PR98zkI-7B0

How to get the mount: You need to first find Empty Magma Shell which is somewhat of a rare drop from Lavaslurper, Lava Slug and Lava Snail . You can easily find these critters in the rocky lava area on the west side of the Waking Shores. There aren’t many of them, so if someone else is farming these, you may have a hard time finding any.

Once it drops for you, you have to travel to 71,25, north east of the Waking Shores, where you will find a large lava pool and at the bottom of it there is the Empowered Snail. If you don’t see the snail, wait for it to respawn, shouldn’t take more than 30 minutes, or join a random group until you phase to somewhere where it’s up. You have to interact with the empowered snail to, I guess, put the shell on him, and the cast time is about 20 seconds. The lava will kill you. If you’re a healer, just pop sum HOTS on yourself before jumping in. If you’re not a healer, be sure to take a healer with you to keep you alive. There is also a toy, the Everlasting Horn of Lavaswimming, which lets you swim in lava without taking any damage.

For level 70 Shaman, this is doable without the horn. I used Astral Shift plus the new stones from the Forbidden Reach Rings, Gleaming Iron Stone and Cold Frost Stone. Other classes might fine those two stones helpful as well.

Not sure this has been mentioned yet but I will state it here. I got the empty magma shell and found the empowered snail in the center of the volcano at around /way 70.90 25.75. I tried this numerous times as prot, beefing up my hp and trying to mitigate any damage I could with no success. The Raging Tempest 6 set bonus from the reach grants you immunity to all damage for 8 seconds after sustaining fatal damage and I was able to do this on my warrior without issue with enough time to heroic leap out of the lava. Hope this helps people who have not acquired the toy from the seige!

Scoot right up to the lava on the "ramp"-looking rock. The snail is under the lava about 10 meters ahead. Pop Unleash Life, cast Riptide on myself, pop Astral Shift, transform into Ghostwolf and ran to the snail.

I had about .5 seconds left after getting the mount before I died.

I did it pretty easily on my fury warrior. Get a couple health potions. Go down the ramp and jump in. Swim down to the snail. Pop a health pot to put you at full health and then use all of your defensive cooldowns. Click the snail and you should be able to get it with enough time.

Something worth mentioning is after you complete the cast on the snail. There is no item for you to click to learn the mount in your bags. The mount is automatically added to your mount collection.

Also, one of the fastest ways to farm Lavaslurper for Empty Magma Shell is after the Dragonbane Keep event. There are a lot of them around the keep.
