As a Mistweaver, I've found this talent useful for high-movement encounters (mainly raids, where this is pretty much guaranteed to heal at least a few bystanders). And it's free!

This would be better if it didn't REPLACE Roll. Roll is a better ability when it comes to which I'd use to go around Orgrimmar or cities with because it looks EPIC! I love roll, Chi Torpedo obviously has more use when in combat, running away, healing yourself as you go or healing others or damaging, yadda yadda, but it shouldn't replace Roll entirely. Let us have both, but on a gcd. I prefer Roll. Chi Torpedo just looks stupid when you're using it just to move further like when questing.

Chi Torpedo has a disadvantage over Roll because of the fact that you can't Chi Torpedo through neutral mobs without pulling aggro

Chi Torpedo has no use as Windwalker.

In PvP, you will be using Roll either to get in melee range or to get away from an enemy. Using it as a pure damage spell will put you a few yards out of melee range of the enemy, and that is never good.

In PvE, you will be using Roll as a movement ability only. Chi Torpedo is a DPS loss, even in AoE fights.

It should be noted that while Roll moves you a distance of around 15yd, Chi Torpedo is closer to 25yd. Easily demonstrated by standing still and using torpedo. Then turning around, unlearning torpedo and trying to roll back to your original position.

Edit: With 5.4.0 this is finally mentioned in the tooltip.

So Roll can be used two or three times depending on the talents you have chosen, and takes 15 seconds to recharge, does this apply to Chi Torpedo as well? Given that it moves you an extra 10 yards I'm curious about that (Not level 90 yet). Also, whats wrong with Darrla's comment about wanting both Roll and Chi Torpedo, but share the same cooldown?

While Chi Torpedo should never normally be used as Brewmaster (tanks aren't normally supposed to be jumping around the place) there are a couple of high-mobility boss fights in MoP in which it could be considered useful to be healing yourself while moving. On both Will of the Emperor and Garalon (if soaking Furious Swipe) you will be frequently repositioning yourself and taking a lot of damage. In these cases you may find adding a self-heal to your mobility useful.

very useful for some fights especially as brewmaster, since it scales with attack power you can be healing for 50k per person per chi torpedo during heavy dmg phases like iron qon ground smash and can out damage xuen on aoe fights (ritualists before dark animus or trash before iron qon) . not useful for pvp as windwalker.

Just because I haven't found any post regarding T1 talent choice + Chi Torpedo threads or comments, I thought I'd post this here.

Chi Torpedo increases movespeed by 200% for 1 second, and has 2 charges with a 20 second recharge time
Celerity increases charges to 3 and reduces recharge time to 15
Tiger's Lust increases movespeed by 70% for 6 seconds with a 30 second cooldown
(if used perfectly) increases movespeed by 25% for 10 seconds, then 50% for 10 seconds every 20 seconds. (only provides optimal speed boost when used twice in a row, can only use roll twice in 10 second intervals every 20 seconds)

Chi Torpedo with Celerity= 200% speed boost for 1 second every 5, which is 20% of the time
((1 second/5)*100)%
= 40% speed boost passive ((20% * 200%)*100)

Chi Torpedo without Celerity = 200% speed boost for 1 second every 10 seconds or 10% of the time ((1 second/20)*100)%
= 20% speed boost passive

Tiger's Lust = 70% speed boost for 6 seconds every 30 or 20% of the time ((6 seconds/30)*100)%.
= 14% speed boost passive (20% * 70)

Tiger's Lust + Chi Torpedo (can still chi torpedo with other talents) = 14% boost + 20% boost = 34% boost

(if used perfectly) = 25% speed boost for 10 seconds and 50% boost for 10 seconds every 20 seconds.

average boost in the 20 second burst = (25%+50%)/2
= 37.5% for 20 seconds every 40 seconds
= 18.75% speed boost ((20 seconds/40)*100)%

+ Chi Torpedo = 18.75% boost + 20% boost = 38.75% boost

Comparison:

Discounting the 20% passive boost from Chi Torpedo, the speed boosts of the T1 talents in descending order are;

Celerity, which is a 20% passive speed boost
, which is a 18.75% passive speed boost
Tiger's Lust, which is a 14% passive speed boost

However take into account that this implies you keep momentum for exactly 20 seconds (which, if possible is extremely difficult) and that you consistently use chi torpedo or tiger's lust on cooldown.

Also take into account the fact that Tiger's Lust is the only of the 3 talents that clears snares and roots (unless you have PvP gloves, giving you Restless Pursuit which also clears snares and roots) and the fact that Tiger's Lust can also be cast on allies. On top of this, remember that chi torpedo WILL break CC on enemies such as polymorph, sap, etc., thus you may be less willing to torpedo often. Celerity should also be taken into account for PvE players, as it allows you to heal or dps with Chi Torpedo more often. Chi Torpedo is also increased to a 330% speed boost with Stance of the Fierce Tiger

Finally, remember to account for , which increases the Chi Torpedo time by 30% if used within 5 seconds of the last (non-stacking). Thus making Celerity an even better choice if you tend to use Chi Torpedo in short succession.

Overall:

Celerity is the best T1 talent when using Chi Torpedo, increases dps/healing output and has the largest speed output when used with Chi Torpedo.

Tiger's lust clears roots, which is useless in comparison if you have the PvP glove bonus, Restless Pursuit, which allows Chi Torpedo to have the same effect.

Momentum is crap

TL;DR

CELERITY IS THE BEST, IF YOU USE MOMENTUM, YOU'RE PROBABLY A Huge Brown Sack

For anyone wishing to use a GetSpellCharges() in an AddOn in order to manage the display and timing of your Chi Torpedo / Roll, use Roll to obtain correct charge data. Thus GetSpellCharges(109132) will do the trick just nicely.

This comment is relevant to AddOn and Macro authors.

Just used this right as I got to the bottom of the stairs coming down right before you enter Feng the Accursed's room in Mogu'shan Vaults, and it launched me about 100 yards forward for some reason (almost right into the middle of Feng's circular platform). Never seen anything like this happen with this ability before...
