Just add this mount to your favorite and you can use favorite summon where ever dragon riding mount is enabled.

This mount replaces Whirling Surge with Lightning Rush.
The ability is explained during the Storm races that are exclusive to this mount. This ability clearly was just added to bring a new twist/skill thing to the races, not to make open world flying more interesting.

Hugging walls generates stacks of Static Charge.
At 10 stacks you can use Lightning Rush to get a speed boost with "limited handling".. which just feels like a worse and more tedious Whirling Surge tbh.

Very nice mount. And adds a new ability called Lighting Rush to your "dragonflying". Comes with quite a few different appearance choices as well.
IMO worth getting. Just a pity you can't use it like a normal mount. I was really hoping this would be the first hybrid mount for both "dragonflying" and normal flying.

So I can't use this mount for basic traveling in the open world because of Lightning Rush. It replaces the main speedup ability Whirling Surge and I didn't find a way to switch it back. What was the concept behind this permanent skill change? Why won't Blizzard let us switch between the two skills at least? We paid for a mount that we can't use for everyday traveling? Disappointing.

This mount can be obtained by pre-purchasing the Heroic- or Epic- edition of the expansion "The War Within".
It is used as a dragonflight-dragon. Exception is that Whirling Surge is replaced with the unique ability Lightning Rush.

My 2 cents on the new "Lightning Rush".....10 stacks is way too much. Yeah yeah, it might be easy to get in the new expansion / new zones there. But right now in the open spaces we have its ALMOST useless or way too much of a hassle to search for a wall to hug for a long time in order to get the 10 stacks.

TLDR: I think only 5 stacks should be needed as at the moment it feels like way too much to need 10. Thats all.

I wish I came to read this before buying the next expansion, if I knew this was a dragonriding only mount I wouldn't have bothered. I'm so disappointed.

The thing I am most looking forward to in the next expansion is never riding a dragon again. I just want to fly without all the extra work and tedious nonsense, I get more stressed out from leaning into my monitor to stretch out some mythical magic flying energy than I do playing the game.

I know you can switch and I'm thankful for that but I thought I could use this mount now in the rest of the game. Big sad.

EDIT: I never saw that you can change the colors of the mount, all 4 colors and extras look very nice. Really like the amber and the red. I'm adding 2 stars to my previous review.

Purchasing at least the Heroic Edition of the The War Within expansion also unlocks the Storm Rider's challenge! Heroic Edition: Algarian Stormrider This challenge revamps a few Dragonriding races in the Dragon Isles, making the race tracks slightly different and more fitting for the Algarian Stormrider new mechanic and ability.

To start the questline that leads to the Storm Rider challenge, mount on your Algarian Stormrider and fly around with it a bit, until you notice Herald Flaps approaching you. Herald Flaps will give you the quest Lightning Strikes, which requires you to go to the Skytop Observatory in the Waking Shores.

Upon arriving there and turning the quest into Lord Andestrasz, he will give you a new quest, The Storm Race Tour - This quest has you complete 6 Dragon Isles races on the newest Storm Rider difficulty! These races involve slightly altered courses, including many portions close to walls or mountains and big strips of straight ring objectives, perfect to use Lightning Rush on.

You can complete All 6 Storm Rider Gold Dragon Races following this video guide.

The next Heroic Edition's Algarian Stormrider features a new ability Lightning Rush which replaces Whirling Surge. This ability is a little bit more difficult to use, but while Whirling Surge has almost no practical use to anyone who has developed some skills in Dolphin Style Skyward Ascent for gaining horizontal momentum, Lightning Rush operates without any Vigor - it is a nice addition.

My feedback:

1) Trying new things is good, so I'm glad they're looking at it.

... But

2) I'll probably never favorite this mount for regular travel. The lack of initial Surge on moving feels bad. And a lot of places it is VERY impractical to generate charges even on a long flight.

3) Never use this mount in raid/dungeon areas with flying. Places like Tindral Sageswift in Amirdrassil or Nokhud Offensive. If you want the quick get-up-and-go of Surge you're not going to have it there and worse, if you do manage to get charges for your speed burst you won't be able to control your trajectory (which can kill you in Tindral).

... Minor gripes:

4) the back seat glowing bits are visually distracting when flying, but there's a "bare" seat option.

5) The modified Vigor bar is insane.

Conclusion: It's "free" for subscribing. Cool. Won't use it for anything except races that require it.

I discovered a cool trick with this mount. If you are flying using a regular mount, you can fly up a decent amount, then mount this one for the dragonriding/dynamic flying. As far as I know this is the only dragonriding mount you can do this with.

During the Lunar Festival the mount is showing rainbow coloration while in the map zone for Moonglade. The shifting pattern resembles what it looks like when flying very fast, even if parked, but without the gleaming-edge speed stripes. I'll submit a screenshot. This affects the storm-kitten (whelp form for passengers) too.

I asked my pal what she had that did THAT and she's uh i dunno, I picked Red at the rostrum....

When we went to a new zone it turned to normal color.

I absolutely love this mount. I love the colouring and the general look as it flies... but as a normal mount. Yet, I have gone through a portal to DF and now it is essentially broken. I can't fly it or any other DF mounts on preDF zones because of Riding Abroad, Vigour, or some other idiotic malarky. I cannot, I repeat cannot understand the tediousness of dragonriding. Just let people fly! I am so cross about this I have considered leaving the game for good. I have played on and off for MANY years and this is just as bad and as not user friendly as WoW ever got.
